Real Madrid are getting nasty?
Real Madrid through a spanish magazine and an "un-named director" have stepped up the media campaign to manage the departure of David Beckham. A story has appeared in Don Balon, which has been picked up by The Independent and The Times (story here) where an un-named board member has asserted that the club want David Beckham to leave, that regardless of the public pose that Calderon and Capello have adopted, that they hope he quits Real Madrid for the US. The comments that "the masked men" make about Beckham not being in favor with Capello ring true enough, after all we have all witnessed for ourselves that Becks has had little playing time and that even when playing well and showing form, he has been passed over by Capello. However, I can't help but wonder if David Beckham had been prepared to renew his contract and accept a few minutes of game time here and there, would Real Madrid have been happy to extend? I think they might well have for commercial reasons but David Beckham is not interested in their commercial agenda he wants to play football.
The timing of these comments is very unprofessional. The article is clearly a thinly veiled attempt at damage control by the club. The quotes about David Beckham not making half as much money for the club as people believe and saying that his remaining at the club is bad for business, are just a little too obvious and transparent.
Now that everyone already knows Becks will leave, now that everyone already knows that he is not in Capello's game plan for reasons not soley based on form, Real Madrid have leaked it to the press that they want him to go too. Whatever.
I hope for David Beckham's sake that this situation does not continue on too much longer and that he can move on to something more positive and ultimately satisfying in January rather than waiting till next Summer. It has to be trying to be caught up in the middle of all these different peoples agendas. He might be famous now but David Beckham is still at heart the guy who as a kid took a football to bed at night :) I hope this is all behind him and he's able to enjoy playing football again soon.
Updated @ 8PM Becks is still recovering from his injury and won't be available for Sundays game - latest training info and photos online here.
Have a great weekend everyone -- Anna

That's typical RM arogance and policy
nice face on the press, but the truth always coming out via unnamed sources. It happend so many times and why is still most people believing that crap. it's pure PR, like Kenyon-Chelsea or Gill-Glazer-ManUtd.
I'm not saying Becks PR machine is better - but at least they try to be a bit more polite and warry of choosing certain expressions or words aka on a higher level.
Anyway I hope he quits that club asap - don't care if he hasn't won anything (which actually isn't true (he won the spanish super cup alltough that was not a great trophy it is one)
RM always treathed him like a marketing toy and I think Becks only went there to play alongside Zizou.
Hopefully Becks will find a club where he can play regulary (can be really any club appart from Chelsea, Liverpool)
I wouldn't mind him playing for smaller side - aslong as he can play and have fun. (of corse if he's good enough - what he certainly is)

Frankly speaking, I just can't figure out why does everything go in the wrong direction for Beckham after the World Cup. He was one of England's best player in the competition! However, he is the one (and the only one) to shoulder the blame of failure. How about those who was either red-carded, missing penalty shoots or even day-dreaming on the pitch? Did any of the other England players come out and take up their share of responsibility? None!!!!
OK, let's forget about England. That may be just McClaren's plot. However, how about RM? Of the past 3 seasons, Beckham has been consistently performing well. Together with Casillas, he was RM's best player in 2005-06. He also performed well in 2004-05 and was outstanding in the first half (yes, before the collapse of the whole team in 2004) of 2003-04 season. I honestly believe that he has contributed more to RM than most (if not all) of the other Galectico/star-players! In fact, he also performed well when he started in the first 2 games of this season (well, I think we can forget about the Lyon game as the whole team played crap), and he played well whenever he was given reasonable time on the pitch! However, just see what happened! Capello had rather played a wrong-footed striker (well, who was even in a much worse form than Beckham at the beginning of the season) in Beckham's position than giving him a chance! Is there any logical reason for that?
The behaviour of RM is nasty. They just said that they want Beckham to quit for the US! It's obvious that they do not only intend to get rid of Beckham, they even want to push him out of Europe! Surely, they just do not want to see Beckham playing for another top European club!

Why doesn't the club and the board members STFU!! This does not need to be done in the press and it should not be done now. Becks deserves to be treated better!!

I think that I'd be sad if he go to another team, because, i wouldn't be able to see him play, because here in Venezuela we don't see EEUU matchs....:( But wherever he goes, i'll go with him! I love him!

aww, poor david.. he doesnt deserve to go through all this crap! i hope whever he is next season is someplace that will appreciate his talent and abilities!

I agree Becks has had a really major run of bad luck and both his treatment by McClaren and Capello has been unfair, it is just a real shame it should happen at the same time because Capello has used the situation with England to justify his bias and McClaren is not under so much pressure when Capello doesn't play Becks - so all up it creates a really untenable position for him and he must be just reeling because he's not playing badly so how could he possibly see this coming? He couldn't. However, I do think his leavinf Real Madrid is 100% certain now, staying just isn't an option with Capello because he will never get to pay enough to be happy and there is no point staying at a club if you will not be happy there.
