In recent weeks even months there has been plenty of talk about whether David Beckham should continue to play for England. I have found the lack of logic and often times, out and out envy being demonstrated by the Becks bashers hard to stomach.
It was a nice change today to find a balanced article in the english media about the question. I know! balanced and English Media in the same sentence - who knew it was still possible, such has been the obvious lack of any objectivity or impartiality shown by the hacks of late.
Still fairs fair, The Guardian did publish a debate between the exManager of Spurs, who "surprise surprise surprise" (said with my best Gomer Pyle accent) is backing Lennon - I mean he would surely, and David Platt who makes the case for why Beckham still has much to contribute, as well as, I believe, the long overdue case, for how much Beckham has already done for England. A fact that seems so obvious, it is hard to imagine it has to be argued and yet the poisonous petty pen-pushers who supplied commentary for the World Cup, actually made every effort to down-play the indisputable fact, that Beckham was invaluable.
David Platt starts his comments by pointing out that peoples opinions of David Beckham are too influenced by anything and everything, other than his actual ability and performance. Perhaps the cruelest irony of all, is that whilst Beckham is derided as a brand, as a poster boy and a merchandising mega-star, he has never let these things impact on the very real talent that he possesses. He has always known how to leave the trappings at the door and get on with it. His detractors have never been able to get past the glitz, a limitation of the critics but not of the man.
Anyway enough ranting and raving *blush*. I started this fansite along with Sara because I have felt very strongly for some time that David Beckham receives far too much undeserved criticism. This fansite is my way of saying, for what it's worth, that I have huge admiration and respect for him and I think he is a decent bloke with a good heart and I wish him and his family the best, so I will go on these little rants ocassionally, as I can't help myself :-) Anyway lol here's
