Becks to the US say the papers

Newspaper reports this morning suggest that David Beckham will leave Real Madrid to play in the US. The Times, which is usually considered a reliable source makes it sound as if the decision is made, although there has been no formal announcement from David Beckham or his representatives. Here is an excerpt from The Times report
David Beckham will confirm today his decision to leave Real Madrid in the summer by rejecting the club's offer of a two-year contract extension. Here is more coverage of the situation. Just click on the publication link to read the headline story... I know you knew that :)
The former England captain has also decided on the next stage of his career and will turn down the opportunity to return to the Premiership, instead moving to the United States, with Los Angeles Galaxy the most likely club he will join.
Beckham will inform Ramón Calderón, the Real president, of his desire to leave at a meeting at 1pm today, a decision that has been the source of speculation for months. After much consideration, the former England captain has resolved to reject an offer of a little more than £100,000 a week, which he believes has been made for mainly commercial reasons.
The 31-year-old feels that he has little future under Fabio Capello, the coach, and has decided that if he is not going to get regular matches, he would rather not be at the club. Of greater surprise is the fact that Beckham has decided on his next destination.

wow quite a few articles huh ;-)
it would be just damn funny if the papers get it all wrong and he doesn't go to the US...
personally I do have some clubs/leagues I would like to see him go, but aslong as it is not one of the following clubs and he gets regulary playing time and joins a club which actually has a team not 11 individualists - I don't really mind where Becks goes.
NO to
Chelsea
Liverpool
Leeds
ManCity
and REAL MADRID

Hiya Ben :)
Yes, just one or two articles!! Yikes, I went cross-eyed hours ago. There will be a lot more articles yet when Becks actually makes an announcement - it might be today, will have to wait and see. As I said yesterday, I'm pleased that he's not going to renew with them but I'm nervously waiting to see what will happen in terms of a departure date. The next few months could be very difficult if he remain's
at RM till the Summer.
Foxsport are saying LA Galaxy are going to have a press conference today. The Times are saying Becks will tell RM they can sling their hook around 1pm. But AS did report as far as I can tell (my spanish is muy lousy) that Inter Milan had Luis Figo contact Becks and so although there are reports that Inter are not interested, it is not completely clear. AS.com have said a few things that have come to pass... so who knows.

I guess it's the old wait and see...

ps: go to google.com - on the right side besides the search window is a langauage options tool - where you can translate whole websites in seconds (altough not 100% accurate)

If he'll really move to MLS, I guess a lot of fans will be quite disappointed and no longer support him.

Is that what you think? David Beckham's real fans, his true fans will not cease to be fans because of the league he plays in. Do you think his fans in Japan, in China, in Australia and yes his huge fan base in the US are going to be put off by him playing in the States, if that is in fact confirmed? I don't.
I can tell you something I found very interesting, when I started this site, I thought I would get the most visitors from Asia and then from Europe and then from the US.
60% - yep 60 comes from the States. The traffic from Canada and Australia is also huge and completely disporportionate to the size of those countries. Asia is second and Europe - well Europe is 3rd - who knew, I never expected it. I get visitors on this site from more than 80 different countires but the US traffic knocks every one else out of the park. So when you talk about fans not following - which fans are you talking of, some in Spain? Maybe? but Becks is such a huge global icon - I think he will have a big fan base wherever he goes. :)

No matter where he goes I wish him well and I'll follow him. I always did and I always will.
Concerning the Destination:
The new contract will NOT be about the money/image rights, it will be about him playing regulary - that's the most important thing for him.
Then of corse the question remains - try to break the US and make Soccer "Big" , or try to get back into the England Squad via a European Club (thinking otherwise would work would be unrealistic IMO). Aswell as taking into account his familys wishes.

To dear rpm:
I'm from Asia. To be honest, I can not accept that he move to MLS, since that is not the place for his grade and his age.
Maybe our concern is totally different. I do not care if he is the most popular icon, what I do care is if he is a great footballer. That's why I follow and support him for 10 years, not for his face or his fashion style, but for his golden right foot.
5:21 AM
Don't presume to tell me what my concern is or to presume the concerns of any of his fans. You simply said that you thought he would lose many fans and I said that I thought he would have a large fan base no matter what. If your being a fan of David Beckham is dependent on the team he plays for then that's your right. I will folow him wherever he goes as I have followed him since the mid 90's. He is a great footballer but also to me a hero and a great man. It is up to him what choice he makes not up to me. For right now we don't know what choice he has definitely made so perhaps you would like to at least wait and see?
I don't follow him for his fashion, his face or his foot - left or right, I follow him for his heart, for his spirit, for his determination, courage and grace under fire. I follow him for being a great footballer yes but more so for being someone I have always been able to admire. You must make your own choice.
