Contract confusion

The following story came out earlier today

Beckham 'to leave Real in summer'
David Beckham will leave Real Madrid in the summer, according to the club's sporting director Predrag Mijatovic.
"Beckham will leave us, we will not renew his contract with the club," he told Sky Italia television.

The 31-year-old, whose current deal expires in June, has been linked with a host of clubs from England, Italy, Spain, France and the United States.

Beckham has found his opportunities limited at Real this season under coach Fabio Capello

It was followed by news that David Beckham has been left out of the Real Madrid squad that will travel to Seville to face Betis in the King's Cup. Squad list. This seemed to back up the earlier news story as David Beckham was omitted for "technical" reasons, whatever that actually means.

However, David Beckham's representatives have released a statement to say that Mijatovic's comments were confused and mis-reported and that contract talks are still on-going full story here.

The Guardian have published a detailed review of today's events and all the possible implications.

Hmmm, I think the situation is a bit different now. Many Beckham fans (who are non-RM fans) wish Beckham to leave RM, but they do not want to see him being pushed out by RM! We hope that he makes his decision according to his own wish instead of being "forced" to do so. The situation here now is similar to that in 2003 with Man Utd, or even worse as we all know that Beckham will be in "hell" if he has to stay in RM until June.

I'm really speechless with RM! This is how they are going to reward someone who had been arguably their best and most hardworking player for the last 3 seasons!

Well it seems it is a false alarm. So I will put the champagne back on ice. I will have to resume praying that Becks does not renew. I agree with the person who said they wanted Becks to be able to make his own decision etc of course all fans want this but we have no clear indication that he definitely wants to stay.

I guess I feel that he has already been "forced" to some degree by Capello, and the shabby way he has been treated this season is already a great slight, especially, as you say, because he has been a hard-working performer for real Madrid for 3 seasons.

One thing is puzzling me... why if this is all a media bungle and misunderstanding, why has Becks been left out of the King Cup squad?

I wonder if RM is trying to give a warning to Beckham, by implying that they can afford to kick him out immediately, so as to force him to comply to their requirements! The BIG coincidence that Beckham being left out of the squard for tomorrow's game has actually made the situation very clear. Beckham, perhaps together with Ronaldo and some others, had to pay the cost for RM's poor result, though they actually did not play much and always perform well when they were given the chance.

I hope he doesn't resign with Madrid too! How can they blame Becks for poor results and yet Raul the untouchable always play - it's a joke.

I hope he leaves now, if he stays till the summer he may not get to play much ya know. Why does he want to wait?? Better to go to a club now and start playing regularly

I agree with you, RMP.
I think that Fabio Capello is a shameless person. He should have stayed with Juventus and gone down with his team to the second divison. Why should he be excluded with Emerson and Cannavaro they all were involved with the scandal.
Ever since he took over RM, the team has gotten horrible than last year. I hate that Capello leaves Beckham and Cassano on the bench, what he really has to do is take out his lover Emerson and his loyal servant Raul on the bench.
