Decision by March!

David Beckham's media spokesman, Simon Oliveira, has spoken with The BBC and has indicated that Real Madrid have offered Becks a contract with improved terms and that a meeting is scheduled for the second week of January to discuss the renewal, which gels with what AS.com reported yesterday. He has suggested that because of the importance of this decision it may take until March for David Beckham and his advisers to decide the best way forward. He has ruled out any chance that David Beckham will transfer during the current window.
David intends to play a major role for Real Madrid for the remainder of the season," he said.I've also made a few caps of the David Beckham Motorazr flash ad and put them in the gallery.
"He wants to take time over this decision. It will be the last significant deal of his football career. He will know by March what he is going to do."
Update You can read coverage of Simon Oliveira's comments in The Telegraph and The Times.

I hope he doesn't stay at Real Madrid, Capello can't be trusted, he has his favorites and now there is even more competition for a few spots :( If he goes somewhere else he will be at a club where the Manager wanted him and knows his value that has to be better than trying to convince Capello when he has a closed mind... Oh well we'll know in March

I think it is understandable that Beckham still want to stay at RM. He has already adapted to the environment there and there are also considerations for his family.
However, it is very obvious that he is not satisfied with his current situation in RM. I think he is giving himself 3 more months to try out whether he can regain his place in the starting lineup. If he starts to play regularly from now on, it's very likely that he will stay. If his situation does not improve in the next 3 months, he can make use of the rest of the season to find another team.

I would be happy for Becks to remain at Real Madrid if he would be happy there and would get sufficient starts etc. However, I don't think anything that has happened or has been said in recent days actually points to an increased likelihood that he will stay. I mean it's possible, it has always been possible. However, we are actually none the wiser as to what Becks' final decision will be, we just know that we should have an indication by sometime in March at the latest. I mean at this stage of negotiations, even if David Beckham had made up his mind to leave next Summer and even if he had a very strong preference as to his destination, this would not be something that could be revealed. My guess is there will be a few more "developments" coming :)

I can only see him stay at Madrid if he regains his place.
I can understand him wanting to stay till the end of the season because if gives him the options
regaining his place, therefore staying in Madrid, where the kids are settled.
winning a trophy (other than the spanish super cup) since they are at least in "reach" of winning something atm
Personally I'd love him to go to Italy where I think his qualities would be best suited.
Ben (guess we just have to be patient)
