David Beckham Goals!

Update - Photos of David Backham watching todays game between Real Madrid and Levante are in the gallery. Real Madrid lost the match 1-0 and Becks looked very disappointed.

Pardon the rant but Real Madrid have treated David Beckham disgracefully. David Beckham is a true professional and gentleman, even in the face of extreme provocation he has not publicly retaliated against the Real Madrid hierarchy. It is hard to comprehend how a great player, who has given his all for the white shirt, can be so disrespected by the club. Only last season he led La Liga for assists and he was along with Iker Casillas, one of Real Madrid's two best players. Real Madrid may not have added any major silverware to the cabinet in the last 3 seasons but I believe that if there had been 11 players on the field all ready to play with the same passion and heart as David Beckham the outcome might have been different.

Real Madrid seem determined to exact some form of "revenge" although they have not been wronged. Forcing David Beckham to train away from the squad serves no real purpose and questioning his professionalism when he has always been exemplary in his conduct shows real bad faith on Capello's part.

Although the Real Madrid site posted a transcript of Fabio Capello's Press conference yesterday, they omitted all the questions pertaining to David Beckham. I admit I was puzzled yesterday when no questions or answers about Becks appeared on the official site or in the english language media. However, reports in the spanish magazine AS.com and also El Mundo make it clear that Capello was asked about David Beckham and that he lied in his responses. He told the gathered journalists that David Beckham was not fit and had taken a heavy knock at the end of yesterday's training session, requiring him to use ice. However, David Beckham told reporters when questioned as he left training, that he was uninjured and perfectly fit.

The web of deceit is becoming evermore tangled. El Mundo reported that Capello when asked again about David Beckham's injury, after Becks had told reporters he was fit and well, was unable to provide a clear answer and finally conceded that injury was not the reason that David Beckham had been excluded. He also said that David Beckham had trained very well, a clear admission that Becks exclusion has nothing to do with football. It is hard to keep up with all these machinations but one thing is clear, Capello and the club are not being honest in their dealings.

It is sad to see a great club, with great traditions bought into ill-repute by the behaviour of the Manager, Sporting Director and President, who bring so much shame upon a club that David Beckham has served so well.

It is sad that the ego and politics of a small group of men is to come ahead of common sense, that players who are still recovering fitness after injury or who have travelled the day before to Alicante to play with the youth side are to be called upon, while David Beckham, who would give his all and has trained all week, is shunned. There is more on this at As.com

It is sad that when Real Madrid has a tally of 28 goals in 20 matches its lowest in the past 16 years and is averaging 4.4 shots on target per match, its worst figure since the 1986-87 season and has lost 3 of the last 5 matches, that the Manager places personal grudges and misguided pride ahead of results.

Marie I'm sure that will come soon enough - if I remember correctly that was all in the 96/97 season.

I call it the Super Goals Season
because not only did Becks score a couple of fantastic goals but so did Cantona. Gary Neville scored his 1st goal and even Peter Schmeichel the goalie scored with a bycicle/overhead kick (sadly it was ruled offside)

Ben
RM lost 0-1 - no goals - HEHEHE

I feel a twinge of guilt toward the players for wishing the loss on RM, but even without the treatment of Becks, I hope people will finally accept that the reason RM has been "underperforming" for the last several years is because they are so horribly mismanaged (can I also say amoral or is that too dramatic, it seems to fit).

I know...I feel bad for wishing Real Madrid loss especially with the excellent goal keeping of Iker Casillas...and David Beckham really wants his team mates to win...now there is another injury...and lack luster performances from the players who just returned from injuries...Capello would now have to have real answers for the fans...
