David Beckham in San Sebastian
David Beckham travelled to San Sebastian last night with the Real Madrid squad that will play Real Sociedad later today. There is a report and two David Beckham photos amongst the 6 on the Real Madrid official site There is a good, albeit short, article on David Beckham's recall in The Times that mentions the poll on Marca as a possible factor, so many of you who voted in that poll can take some personal satisfaction in knowing that your support might have helped influence Becks recall!
There is also an article in The Guardian that reports Capello as saying last night, in addition to his comments at the press conference yesterday afternoon, that he will be including David Beckham in his plans not just for this match but for "the rest of the season". Let's hope this proves to be true. AS.com also has commentary.
Marca ran the cover story "Beckham Victory", (for a moment I thought it was a cover story about Victoria!) Marca.com have articles and commentary about Capello's reversal and the lead story on their website is that Capello's future will be decided by today's match, view here.
I'll be back later with news and photos from the match. I don't know how much game time Becks is likely to get but let's all wish him luck and hope for the best - a good game, no injuries and a win!
Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend -- Anna

Now...do you think he can go back to the England squad? or are we asking too much?

We never ask too much for Becks :-)
I'm so sad I live so near San Sebastian and won't be able to go and see the match :-(
Good luck and have a good match David!

I've just read the Capello interview on the Real Madrid site.
He said "realising one's mistakes is a trait of intelligent human beings"...
To me, the way he turned his coat is just unbelievable!!

Yeah! so great!
11:16 AM
Sorry Anna, I was answering Marie's post :))
I do agree with what you said about Capello!
11:19 AM
lol - it's ok I deleted my post - because I knew you were answering Marie :)) and I wanted to change what I wrote to say - ditto - is great that he is starting I didn't expect that but the start is not everything I wished for... there's plenty of time yet :)
11:23 AM
Beckham GOAL!!!
11:40 AM
YEAH BABY YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
11:42 AM
I can tell that the commentator is a Beckham fan...even before Beckham took the free kick he was already proclaiming it as a goal :)
Come on Real Madrid, win this one for Becks :)

I don't get the match on TV or radio where I am, so I am reading an ESPN "gamecast" and having trouble breathing!
I was so excited to read GOAL!!!! But wish I could have seen it. If anyone has a minute, please tell me how the match looks. The gamecast only lists events so I don't know how the teams and/or players are looking, etc. Thanks!
11:57 AM
OK I'm over my Austin Powers moment, but I'm so happy for him that he scored a great goal! I wonder if Capello is smart enough to realise it was an "intelligent move" now!
I hope they have a stronger second half on attack as they are not flowing that well. Hala Madrid!!
Go Becks!!
12:01 PM
It's 4:00 a.m. here, and I'm one of the lucky ones who got to watch the game live, the second half is about to start. The strikers: Raul and Rud need to be more creative, the long balls are getting to them but they could not handle the balls. Beckham's goal was just perfect :) he gave a little nod to Capello as he passed by their bench. As for the Madrid defense, they need to step it up, Cannavaro needs to be careful as he already has a yellow card,

in the first half, Beckham is really working hard. But I'm kind of confused with their formation.
Second Half:
Beckham to Guti, Guti to Torres, Torres to Rud then
GOAL :) :)
hope this helps Diane :)

Thank you Marie, that's everything I wanted to know! I'll check back in case something else massive happens (like the nod) that wouldn't be in the gamecast and you are able to post.

12:10 PM
lol - I just posted they hadn't threated the goal much from open play so of course they score!!! Love it! :) Becks is having a good game! :)
12:15 PM
You guys are definitely improving my ability to breath!!
12:22 PM
hey diane - I just put some photos in the gallery and 3 of them are his reaction when he scored :)
12:26 PM
Muchos gracias! Still breathing...so far.
12:29 PM
What is Raul doing in midfield?
The pitch is slippery...
Marie
12:30 PM
Fortunately you're here and can watch the match for us, Marie!
My heart beat a bit faster when I read Becks had scored...
12:32 PM
unlike beckham Raul is not having a good game
12:32 PM
Beckham had a little scuffle with one of the Real Sociedad players but he went back and shake the players hand...even if the Real sociedad player does not want to :)
Marie
12:44 PM
woohoo they got the result!! We can all breathe easier now :)
12:55 PM
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But I don't know if I can survive another gamecast--much more nerve-wracking than watching match. I can just about breath again!!
If anyone wants to send details, none would be too small...
Thanks,
D

Cute moment :) Beckham talking with one of the ball boys as he went out of the field.
Capello was very animated towards the last few minutes of the game :) :) I admit I was too...since the forwards were just walking about and not really trying to get the ball. Capello normally has his emotions in check but at this game he seem to be very emotional :) I guess having your job on the line would do that to you.

Thanks for givin'us a good thrill Marie!
And thanks for the pictures on the gallery Anna.
We all can breathe easier now, sure, ...and sleep easier too :))

Reading instead of watching makes things like 31(!!!) fouls by Madrid stand out a little more. Too many, gives too many chances to the other team for free, and not great play. And that is definitely a coaching style.
Still so happy for Becks!
1:06 PM
Pictures are GREAT!!! My thanks too.
1:07 PM
yup diane...that's why i said i was confused by their formation...at the end of the second half, beckham was playing right back, and Canavarro and helguera had a lot to do to defend, since the midfield was a bit in disarray; the commentator even commented on it that it must be Capello who instructed the players, their positions and they themselves were confused. Definitely a coaching mishap. and yup great game by beckham too.
Good Night or rather good morning in my area of the world.
Marie
1:11 PM
yup anna thanks for the pics :) :)

1:12 PM
on a final note...Beckham hugged each and everyone of his team mates at the end of the match :)
