David Beckham captain's UEFA XI

David Beckham will captain the European team and Thierry Henry and Steven Gerrard are believed to be possible team mates, according to an update on the Manchester United v UEFA XI match in The Times this morning. This will be a very special game for Becks and leading out the european team at Old Trafford to play with and against many of his friends and former team mates will mean a great deal to him. The charity match will be played on Tuesday, March 13th, ticket info is online here.

Jeff Powell in last night's Daily Mail called for Steve McClaren to recall David Beckham for England, in the hopes that Becks can do for McClaren what he has done for Capello. Jeff Powell is one of the bitterest Beckham bashers in Britain, so for him to make this suggestion perhaps shows that even the most anti-Beckham members of the British press are beginning to wake up to the fact that England needs David Beckham. Here's the column, just ignore Powell's silly little digs, he must have drunk too much hatorade again.

Of course McClaren himself continues to ignore the asset David Beckham would be to the England team, as his comments in The Sunday People show but, as The Times points out in a good article about McClaren's England, he is under mounting pressure and the qualifying match against Israel may decide his future.

David Beckham is making lots of positive news headlines in the press this morning, following his triumphant return to the Real Madrid starting 11, here's some of the coverage just click on the source to read -

Headline: Team to Beckham - It's the return of the Glactico
Source: AS.com - I have translated this into english, it provides details of what happened after the match in the dressing room and during the trip back to Madrid

Headline: Beckham hailed as a Saviour
Source: Globe and Mail

Headline: Fabio's Cap in hand to Beckham
Source: The Sun

Headline: Beckham's strike delivers the perfect retort to Capello
Source: The Independent

Headline: The Real Deal
Source: The Guardian

Headline: Beckham's Rescue Job
Source: The Telegraph

Finally, for anyone who is curious to know a little bit more about Capello, a man who has been described as "an arrogant ego-maniac who has lost touch with reality", there is an interesting write up in The Times.

Regarding the issue concerning the England Team, it is noticed that England will meet the weakest teams of their group (well England had in fact got the best draw in the qualifying games) in the coming months....and the team should just walk them over......McClaren is too lucky.....

Hmmm England might walk over them but Israel rarely loses at home and Russia may put up a fight, did you read The Times article, England is currently only 3rd in their group after as you say getting the best draw with the easiest teams but they have not been making easy work of it thus far.

All I know is that 8 days ago I was not sure when David Beckham's next match for Real Madrid would be and it looked very safe to assume it would be no time soon. Then, in the space of 6 days following Real Madrid's unexpected loss to lowly Levante a team fighting relegation, Beckham was campaigned for, recalled, included in the starting 11 and scored a goal, and is now expected to play a part for the rest of the season. So, I guess you just never know :)
