David Beckham photos update
Quick update! I added a few screen shots from the "making of" clip for the new Motorola Ads to the Photo Gallery yesterday for anyone that missed them. I'm afraid they're a bit fuzzy, sorry, but he still looks good fuzzy :)I have also added a few photos of Becks out with J-Lo and Marc Anthony in Madrid to the Out and About Gallery. They had dinner together at the Italian restaurant La Tabaoladi Bangaloo in Madrid on Monday night after JLo did a photocall for her new film Bordertown. Photo's are courtesy of TMZ.
Results are in from The Sun poll that many of you voted in. 88% voted an emphatic YES! to an England recall for Becks. Details here.
Frank Yallop, the head coach for LA Galaxy has praised David Beckham's play for Real Madrid on the weekend and resigned himself to the fact that David Beckham will definitely not be joining up with the team until July. He will travel to Spain this weekend to meet with Becks for the first time. Details here.
We love Owen Hargreaves
In Owen Hargreaves current BBC Column (online here) he was asked the following:Hi Owen. Do you believe that David Beckham still has something to offer the England team? Paul Goodale, UKThis is as strong an answer in favor of Becks as Owen could give considering he is a current member of the squad and can't publicly go against McClaren. Owen has shown David Beckham a lot of support over the last six months. In fact out of all the players in the England set-up Owen has been the most vocal in praising Becks since he was left out of the squad. David Beckham stood by Owen Hargreaves when he was being booed by England fans who had not given Owen a chance to prove himself. Becks condemned this behaviour to the press and called on the fans to treat Owen and all players with respect and now Owen has repaid his loyalty, by never missing an opportunity to express his sincere respect. It's nice. Good on you Owen!
Everyone knows about Beckham's quality and he was England captain for such a long time because of these exceptional qualities that he has.
But the manager has decided to go in a different direction and it's not for the players to say otherwise.
One thing I will say is that I think Becks is the greatest passer I've ever played with and I've played with some great players. That's remarkable in itself.
update: - Todays training report and photos, including one of David Beckham, are on the official site

I have read some of the readers' comments on the Sun poll concerning an England recall for Beckham. In sharp contrast to the the poll result, the majority of the comments I read were negative on Beckham.....for example, one viewed that England Team is getting better without him while the other one claimed that he will never support an England Team with Beckham in it.....Perhaps that's because only the Beckham-hater do bother to leave their views........However, it's really said to read those negative comments (I will never get used to them)......Beckham definitely deserved to be treated better......

i know, i will never get use to the negative comments either.

Sorry I hate Owen for wearing the number 7. That was just wrong.

I know I love Owen too :) (despite him wearing the number 7:)) I guess Beckham is the one who really stood up for him and made him feel welcome in the team.

To the person above Marie (hi Marie :))
I understand how you feel, it was awful to see someone other than Becks run out in the number 7 for England. It would have always felt a little funny but considering Becks had not retired but was dropped so unfairly, it really stung. But we shouldn't take that out on Owen Hargreaves, because he did not drop Becks, he did not pick the number 7 or ask for that shirt. Those were decisions made by other people or more specifically McClaren - he's the one to be angry with.

as for the England Shirt Numbers: There are Rules my fellow Readers and Posters, believe it or not.
the England Starting XI always have to be from 1-11 in Friendlies and Qualifiers!
I can live with it that Hagreaves has it (at the moment Carrick) and not Gerrard, Lampard or Shaun Wrong Misshit aka Wright Philipps!

Owen Hargreaves is a pretty good writer, and I'm glad BBC asked him to write a column for them so that the England fans could get to know him better. Diane I notice in his column, he mentions that they each have their own rooms :)

I did too Marie! It even seemed like he mentioned it to put THAT silly issue to rest ...sweet. My husband and I were once talking about people making a fuss about such small things and he mentioned that, in a lot of sports that require travel, players often pay the extra cost of a single room, especially when they get old enough to want to stay in touch with families, kids, etc. They stay in the same hotel, spend the same time together, but then they can spread out--literally for some that have trouble fitting in the smaller spaces to begin with!!
Wanted to let you guys know that, with the increased interest, the Beckham/Madrid situation has gotten more coverage over here. And the one thing that keeps being mentioned over again is integrity--with professionalism and winning spirit close behind. Its a much nicer introduction for those who have only noticed the the pay packet before!

Personally I do not hate Hagreaves (in fact I quite like him)…….somehow I feel bad for him when he was continuously being singled out for critics during Eriksson’s time. However, in my humble opinion, I do not find him performing exceptionally well for England in 2006, or I think he actually did not play much last year. He had an excellent performance in the game vs Portugal in the 2006 WC, and I agree that he played well in the friendly match against a very poor Greece. However, apart from those, he did not play much. In my memory, he always played as substitute before the game against Ecuador in the WC, and I still remember that after the two friendly games in May 2006 (just before England departed for Germany), the media was still questioning his abilities. Furthermore, since he was injured since September, he did not play much in England’s Euro qualifiers in 2006.
So, I cannot help wondering why Hagreaves kept on getting rave reviews from the English media, winning every single prize for English internationals. In my humble opinion, it is not because Hagreaves was really that outstanding (I agree that he is a good player, though), it’s because all the Media’s favourite English players (namely Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Terry or even Joe Cole) failed to perform in 2006, while someone whom the media hated seemed to have contributed more to the team. Since Hagreaves’ performance against Portugal was really eye-catching, the media thus tried to build him up in order to prevent someone they hated to gain any recognition among the English fans.
p.s. I must stress again that I had no bad feeling for Hagreaves as he appears to be a really nice guy.

Great point. It boggles the mind how the media feel free to be so destructive to someone, it is a professional "mob mentality." I guess we all know by now that they get more ink space or air time the better known their victim is.
