David Beckham thanks team

Update: Reuters are now reporting David Beckham's comments to Marca, in english he told the Spanish paper -
"It is very hard for me because I would like to help the team ... I'm desperate to play again ... I don't know if I will but I've got to keep on training. I want to leave this club on a high."
Marca cover AS.com also reported this morning that David Beckham had thanked his Real Madrid team-mates for their show of support. AS said, (as best as I can translate) that he is not too hopeful of a recall, considering he has already been left out of the squad more than once and Capello had favored Minambres who returns from a long injury and Nieto who had to dash back from playing for the youth team in Alicante the day before the Levante match, ahead of him. At the moment David Beckham continues to train as normal and receives the support of the team and of fans who can not understand why he is being punished for having announced his future plans as he was free to negotiate and it was all above board for him to do so. He still hopes that he will have an opportunity to say a proper good-bye at the Bernabeu, full story is on AS.com.

Also, here is a good english language translation of the last two days reports in the spanish press about David Beckham's position at Real Madrid, online here.

Guillem Balague has said on Skysport in his La Liga preview -
Real Madrid are in a very negative dynamic at the moment, they have a chairman who has decided to keep the coach to use as a shield.

Ramon Calderon feels so weak despite the fact that he won the postal vote issue.

That's why Fabio Capello is staying because, basically, the players do not want him anymore.

They feel so strongly about it that they have been brave enough to ask him publicly to reconsider the David Beckham situation - to get him back into the team.

Although Calderon has given his vote of confidence to Capello this week, he also suggested that he may be able to, slowly but surely; make sure that Beckham comes back into the team.
So the question is, will Capello include David Beckham in the squad to face Real Sociedad on Saturday? His team-mates have requested it. It is rumored that the board and even the President have asked Capello to re-consider. Many fans are calling for Becks to be included and common sense demands it. Tomorrow when the squad is named, barring any injury, we will know the answer! So what do you think will happen?

Capello is a extremely proud, full of ego complex, big headed and destructive kind of person.Once again,I don't know why but it looks like that he just doesn't like Beckham. It's true that Real Madrid hasn't won any major trophies since Beckham arrived but Beckham is not to be blamed for that........The club itself has many internal problems.....and they always try to deshoulder the blames on the players,so here Beckham is the victim of a nasty politics.Everyone can see that.Beckham was always very sincere and 100% devoted to his team, no one can deny that. And so far none of the players from Capello's previous teams have expressed any good words about him.So if Real Madrid does not want to face the utmost disaster and shame of their history, they should consider about Beckham and sack Capello immediately...I N Ahsan.

I have to say tho I wish was not so... I don't think he'll play again unless Capello is sacked because Capello can not admit to mistake no matter what :(

I really hope that Beckham gets to play...but even he, is realistic with his chances and holds out little hope of ever playing again for Real Madrid.

By the way thanks Diane for the info. on Rooney :) People forget that he was England's captain and he was good at it

I think Capello will call on him, because he does not have all the players to call upon and I think there is so much public outcry now and Capello must think of keeping his job, if he calls him and the team loses, he will blame him for the loss but if he refuses to call him and they draw or lose... then the situation is very bad...

I hope he can play he deserves to be able to say a proper good-bye! If he plays they might win and then Capello can not blame him anyway!

I don't think Capello can back down. If he backs down then is the same as admitting he should have played him last Sunday so though it's unfair I think Capello will dig in. It would be nice if Becks got to play

Marie-
I loved that interview. It was after Rooney had cursed at Beckham when he was trying to calm him down during a match (I am sure someone else remembers which one).
The press made a deal of it, asked Beckham what Rooney said, whether he was mad about it etc. Becks laughed and said of course he wasn't mad, that the word was exactly what it looked like on TV, that Rooney's passion was one of the things that makes him such a great player, wouldn't want to lose that, and the rest they could work out.
Class!
