Real Madrid 0 - 0 Real Betis

A nil all draw in a game that was filled with frustration. Real Madrid came very close to scoring a number of times perhaps closest when David Beckham curled a ball low into the box for Ruud Van Nistelrooy but his shot was deflected off the bar. In the final minute of the game David Beckham received a harsh red card for a poorly judged tackle which should have only received a yellow card, in my opinion. The incident will definitely create some debate and it is unfortunate that it will overshadow what was otherwise a great performance from Becks. Unfortunately, this was not the ideal celebration for David Beckham's 150th game for Real Madrid but he was applauded and cheered as he left the field.
Capello defended Beckham (source) saying
It was a foul in favour of Beckham (moments before) and I think the referee was a little quick to flash a red card. I've seen it on television and I don't think it merited a red card. The official match report and photos are now available on the Real Madrid site and the first of the photos are in the gallery. Beckham played AMAZING the whole game...as for his tackle in the end i hate it to say but it was a very bad tackle from the back and i wasnt surprised at all when he was showed red.
Also isnt a direct red 3 game suspension in la liga? what a DISASTER!

We'll have to wait and see, I'd be surprised if Real Madrid doesn't appeal it. I know it was a bad tackle but I've seen tackles like that given a yellow card before.
He did have a good game - he played with a lot of heart - it was a frustrating game they came quite close to scoring and had a lot of possession but they just couldn't convert any of their chances.

I see through out the match many of the refereeing decision did seem a biased and prejudiciale

He served a 1 match suspension when he got a direct red card against Getafe in December 2005 but he successfully appealled another red he got because he picked up two yellows in a match in October, 2005 can't remember who that was against, anyhow we should hear confirmation of what will happen soon :)

I watched the game......I really thought that Beckham played well.....apart from free kicks. The team as a whole improved a lot when compared with their previous matches in the first half too.
However, I have some reservation on the red card......I was not sure whether it's really a revenge foul......as it appeared that Beckham just rushed to reclaim possession of the ball, but somehow mis-judged the movement of the ball......So, in this way, I don't think it worths a red-card.

lol everyday is one of "those" days for me lolol
I agree with the person above it happened too fast, I think it was "revenge" only to the extent that he thought "no way are you have the ball as well" thats how it seemed to me the commentator said it was "revenge" but how do you know?

I have slowed the action replay video down - I taped it off the TV - and used slo mo and he is going for the ball. It was a bad tackle no two ways, it was rash and wild BUT it looked worse than it was and he was going for the ball? Which is consistent with the type of player he is anything else would be very out of character. That is why I think it should have been a yellow and in the EPL it most likely would have been.
