Real Madrid 3 - 2 Bayern Munich

David Beckham had an outstanding game tonight and played a part in all 3 goals. A good summary of his critical role in Real Madrid's win can be found in The Sun accompanied with the question many will be asking, "Did you see that McClaren?" For more details, you can also view an unofficial match report here and the official match report and photos are now online here.

Capello singled David Beckham out for praise in his post match press conference giving credit where credit was due he said, "He played very well. He turned in a very high-level performance. He was very important. When he has been in the side he has always played at a high level. He created two tonight and [scored] one the other night and I recognise that. Source.

David Beckham spoke to Skysport after the match (full story) here is an excerpt where David Beckham as always shows what a gentleman and a class act he is.
"My ambition has never changed since the age of 13, even younger. I always wanted to play for my country and I will always be available whether I'm in Spain, for the next four months, or whether I'm in LA," he told Sky Sports News.

"I will always want to do well for my country."

McClaren was not in attendance as Beckham started in Real's 3-2 Champions League win over Bayern Munich, despite reportedly being in Spain, but that did not concern Beckham.

"Whatever he was doing, I'm sure it was important for England and I'm sure that's what he is doing. The most important thing for me is that I'm out there playing.

"For me, I hope the England team goes through (European Championship qualifying) as quickly as possible, there's some great players there (in the England squad)."
You can watch a video of Becks being interviewed after the game though it does not include the quote above click here.

Perfect timing to have finally located someplace that broadcasts RM matches! I was ECSTATIC today, obviously especially during first half. Becks was incredible. I was also very happy Raul scored first goal, and so early. Brought a lot of joy to a very energized side. They were playing just the way we like to see them and, again, Beckham was amazing. In many ways, better than ever now.
Anna, couldn't agree more about second half. Clearly by instruction, suddenly they were playing 8-1-1!! I couldn't believe it. Plus, even for an all-defense strategy, Capello had them playing further back than I remember seeing before. Kept Munich too close to goal and I believe that is why they were able to score second. It would have been nice for the team if they had been able to keep the rush going.
Nonetheless, it is a match I will always remember!! (And this is before I've had a chance to look at everything you have posted, Anna, which I'm sure will enhance the experience).

Yup, I agree with Diane, Beckham again played as a full back in the second half---not an effective team strategy :) hope Real Madrid wins 1-0 or at least draw at 2-2 in Bayern Munich to advance to the quarter finals :) I wonder what Owen Hargreaves and Beckham talked about after the match...plenty of smiles all around since there is still plenty to play for :)

He's a classy guy but also a clever guy, that is the perfect thing for him to say to the press after that performance. So that people get the news he played well and he still really wants to play for Ingurland at the same time! Great stuff this is the best shot at a recall he could have if not now then... well...doubtful if it could ever happen.

Hi, if it is a draw on aggreate ie 5-5 the team with the most away goals qualifies so if it was 1-1 Bayern Munich would go through. As Marie said RM have to win by at least 1-0 or if it's a draw a minimum of 2-2 for RM to progress I think but they can do it. I mean every one talks about "Home advantage" but after the recent Panolada's the RM team are most scared of their own fans probably LOL just kidding :)
