Real sociedad 1 - 2 Real Madrid

Beckham Reacts to scoringDavid Beckham's first match following his recall couldn't have gone much better! He scored a superb goal from a free-kick to equalise after Real Madrid had gone a goal down in the 7th minute. As always Becks did his talking on the pitch and when it mattered which is one of the things that makes him such a class act!

The Match Report and photos are on the Real Madrid official site.

You can view a video of David Beckham's goal online here at Marca.com and there is a more extensive highlights package on AS.com

There are a lot of photos of David Beckham this week so I am still processing them but the first 50 or so are in the gallery The photos of him scoring and celebrating his fantastic goal are great!

You can read the post-match comments of Casillas, Van Nistelrooy and Ramos online here. Especially nice was Ruud Van Nistelrooy's obvious happiness for his friend he said -
"You can’t write him off,” beamed Van Nistelrooy. “He’s done this a couple of times before and now he’s proved himself again. Of course we are all pleased for him and we’re happy to have him back."

"When you go for a month without playing it isn't easy to be at your best but he always trains hard and has a very positive attitude. That's why you can always bet on him. It was a great day for him."
Reuters have a report on the match and Capello's post match press conference. The Times have a great article, about Becks unfailing ability to rise to the challenge and produce the goods when the chips are down, inevitably stealing the show in the process click here to read.

Capello owes himUpdate: This morning Reuters have a summary of the match coverage and related articles in the spanish press, who have uniformly praised Becks and credited him with saving Capello's job, full story here. Also Marca has a poll asking if you think Becks must continue to be counted on (or words to that effect) so take a second and head over to Marca.com to vote Si! The poll is at the bottom of the homepage.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Don't let Capello get you down too much this time, Anna. A fuller version of his comments on the RM web-site don't sound as bad. As long as he keeps Becks involved it would be great just to be able to cheer the team on for the rest of the season (this from yesterday's cynic!). Here's hoping...
You have done an amazing job--I would ask if you ever sleep, but have no idea what time it has been there for the past several hours. Anyway, thanks for the great photos and links!

I know, I was thinking the same thing. Beckham was responsible for saving the man who has alienated him. But i don't think Beckham minds, he just wants to play.

Anna, the article on times was great, I agree that they could not have been a better script for Beckham's comeback

How many times is one allowed to watch the goal before their computer is confiscated!? Just asking...:)

I enjoyed the Times article too, and it is the only one that calls Beckham's goal "clever" instead of a slip by the keeper. It's so clear that it was meant to go low--from someone famous for their ability to make a ball spin and drop where he wants--and that it passes well to the side of the keeper's attempt.

I never like it anyway when goals are credited to a keepers' poor work instead of the team that scores--the keeper making mistakes is part of the game! But this did not score on a defensive error, the ball went where it was supposed to, the keeper went for it and missed.

As long as I am dissecting, did everyone notice that Beckham started the route to Van Nistelrooy's goal with a perfect cross to Guti? Actually, you may have mentioned it last night Marie. So exciting. I'm happy that there are highlight video's that show more than the goals so that I could get a glimpse of the rest of the game!!

Hope the team is energized and has a good rest of season to see Becks off. AND that he stays healthy!
