David Beckham injury update
Summary - David Beckham will be out injured for approximately 4 weeks according to medical staff at Real Madrid. However, he has been invited to make a non-playing appearance at next week's charity gala match between Manchester United and a UEFA XI, scheduled for March 13 at Old Trafford. More details below.
Update 2 - The medical report is on the official Real Madrid site now -
The extent of the injuries suffered by David Beckham and José Antonio Reyes have been determined. The Englishman is suffering from a Grade II sprain of the internal lateral ligament of the right knee and will be out for approximately four weeks. The Sevillian is suffering from a Grade I-II sprain of the internal lateral ligament of the left knee and will miss between two and three weeks. Both midfielders will therefore miss Real Madrid’s upcoming matches
Update 1 - Manchester United Chief Executive David Gill has advised that David Beckham will still be invited to make a non-playing appearance at next week's Charity Gala match at Old Trafford. He said "When we made the initial announcement, everyone wanted David to come back. We believe and hope he will still come and be part of the event even if he won't be on the pitch". That's really good news, I am pleased to think that he will still get to go back and have a real nice welcome from the fans. Source
Eurosport reported this morning that tests by Real Madrid medical staff on David Beckham have revealed that he has damaged ligaments in his right knee and may require six to seven weeks to recover, full story here However, according to the official site the tests are still in progress so Eurosport may have been a bit premature? The scan to determine more precisely the amount of time that David Beckham will need to recover, is scheduled for this afternoon. Source
For anyone who didn't see the match, here is a clip of the part where David Beckham is injured and tried to play on before coming off. You don't actually see him crash into the advertising hoardings but you do see him make a flying run to try and cutback the ball, it is at this point that he has the collision. I do hope he will have a good recovery!

Will he still feature in the EU Charity match?
3:06 AM
It may be a long shot but because Eurosport seem to be the only ones reporting this so far - I'm hoping they're wrong because 6 to 7 weeks at the moment ruins so many special things that he really wanted to do :(

Similar report can be found on AS.....
It this is true, that really means the end for Beckham in Europe.....6-7 weeks sidelined, that means he will only be ready to play again after around 2 months......that means in May, approaching the end of this European season......it will be highly unlikely that he will feature in RM's games again as he will soon be leaving.......it's really too harsh for him........

I'm so heartbroken. I had also read other posts that say 6 to 7 weeks. They say that last night the docs ascertained that it was an interior ligament and the anterior one (ACL) is the one that takes about a year if its torn--which is what was secretly scaring me until the tests as it is so common with a hard twist. I don't like it that they pluralize ligaments here for the first time, but I feel a little better that the article doesn't actually say they are "torn"...oh dear, I am picking at straws--the ramblings of a sports mom!
Can just hope his spirit weathers the blow, and his body heals it quickly.

Well the official site says that the tests are still being undertaken and so I prefer to wait until the medicos have done a full work up, it is clear he will be out sometime tho but it could be a little better or heaven forbid a little worse, that's the purpose of the tests to enable the most precise prognosis possible I guess.
For the person who asked about the charity match - I am so really really sorry to say that it does not look at all good for that as it is only 8 days away and it's a really special ocassion for Becks and for all Manchester United fans, it would have been his first return "home" - really sad for him to miss it. The fans would have given him one hell of a salute.

P.S I know he's been back to Old Trafford for England but he's never been back to Old Trafford on a Manchester United Match day
4:20 AM
Poor Becks the papers say hes gonna be out for 2 months :(( wish him all the best!
9:05 AM
The next two games will be the last chances for him to play against two of the elite European Clubs......he will never get another opportunity to play against Bayen or Barcelona.......especially for the game against Barcelona as he had already missed the 1st leg in October 2006 (well, I remember he was given several minutes of rubbish time towards the end of that game)..........It's too hard to take.......

Becks is ruled out for four weeks - BBC

Thanks - but I actually added the Real madrd medical report and bolded the four weeks about 20 minutes ago - thanks anyway :)

To the person above yes it is very sad that this injury means he will miss the Bayern Munich game as well as the Barcelona, firstly because of the fact it is his last season in Europe but also and equally importantly because RM really needed him I bet Bayern are feeling very lucky that he won't be playing as should Barca. Still all we can do now is hope he makes the best possible recovery and can return to play in April. La Liga runs through to the middle of June and although RM has not taken advantage of any gift wrapped opportunities to threaten, they are still in that and there is still hope he could play a part, over and above what he has done already, in RM winning it - remember - "impossible is nothing" :)) I'm off to check when the quarter finals would be played in the CL if RM can get through without him

"Loss of time" around 4 weeks -- does it mean that he will return to training after around 4 weeks? If so, that means he will be back to training in early April (it is now early March only). Then is it possible that he will be back to play around mid-April? That's really much better than the prediction from the press.
10:10 AM
Well it's the 5th of March so you can expect him back in training according to the doctors around April 2nd. It will depend on how he heals, he will be doing physio and some gymn work etc - he could be back in the first few days of April or a little later. If Real Madrid make it through to the Champions League QF's it is possible he could play in the second leg - but that's a best case scenario. Still he should definitely be back (touch wood) in time for La Liga matches against Valencia and Sevilla and they will be important matches as those sides are ahead of Real Madrid currently in the table and have been having good seasons. Unfortunately, this takes all the pressure of McClaren and I guess we will never know for sure if he would have done the right thing. It also means he can't play, and it would have been a fun game, with Ronaldinho, Stevie G and others in the UEFA XI. Still the main thing is that Becks gets back to full strength.

Poor Becks hope hes btter soon at least its not 2mths tho like we heard at 1st
11:59 AM
I am so happy to hear that he is invited back to Old Trafford for the 13th--very important for both him and fans!
12:58 PM
Get well soon Becks,,,love ya!!
2:53 PM
awww poor Becks, he seems to have had more than his fair share of bad luck lately :( Get well soon!
11:03 PM
Thanks for the clip Anna, he does look like hes going to be able to stop but I guess he couldn't or lost his balance, damn shame. Kinda amazing that he was still trying to play and Reyes was carried off on a stretcher with the same thing. Maybe he should have gone to ground too he might have made it worse playing on? but Becks is pretty gutsy must have thought he could soldier on. Ah well, the timing is a real bugger. Hope he is back to his best soon.
