The Sports Industry Group who organise the Sports Industry Awards have posted the following clip on You Tube. It has both tributes from Tony Blair and Sir Alex Ferguson and considerably more of David Beckham’s award presentation and acceptance speech, than in the Real Madrid clip posted earlier, as well as the Reuters interview.

I have added a few more photos to the gallery, mostly just replacing lower quality photos with better quality larger ones.

Ryan Giggs is interviewed in today’s Mirror and comments that the celebrity lifestyle was not comfortable for him but he said of David Beckham

“Becks came to a similar crossroads not long after me, but he was more naturally outgoing than me and seemed to enjoy the limelight more than I did.

He was being followed everywhere when he first started seeing Victoria, but he didn’t mind it at all. I think he liked it to some degree.

But I will never knock Becks for that, because it never affected his football. I know for sure football came first for him, and if he felt the showbiz lifestyle was affecting his game, he’d have stopped straight away.

But he carried on performing brilliantly, so why should he stop doing the things he enjoyed? You won’t see any player work harder on their game than Becks – and it showed.”

It’s a shame that so many of the pundits have been so critical of Becks celebrity over the years because as Giggsy says, he has always been a total professional and put football first.
