Tord Grip who was a part of the England set-up under former Manager Sven Goran Eriksson has urged Steve McClaren to recall David Beckham to the England squad. He told The Sun -

I think you should always pick your best players, whether you’re building for the future or not.

And Beckham was in really excellent form for Real Madrid against Bayern Munich.

You can read his full comments online here. Will Tord’s support help or hinder David Beckham’s chances? I always appreciate anyone speaking out to support him but Tord is so closely associated with Sven, could it be counter-productive?

AS.com have an article suggesting that LA Galaxy might be less than enthusuastic about David Beckham being recalled to the England squad because of the matches and training sessions that he would miss with his new club. However, I don’t think they have any basis for making that assertion, certainly Alexi Lalas has gone on record as saying he would be pleased if David Beckham was recalled. AS also mention that David Beckham is expected to start for Real Madrid this Sunday.

Update – Today’s training report and photos are online here, you can just make Becks out in the group photo but no good ones today. Also I don’t want to push my luck as I am very happy that Becks is back playing in the team but if Real Madrid could see there way clear to inlcuding perhaps one more press session with him on the website, considering there have been many more for every other member of the squad this season, it would be nice!
