Happy Birthday Brooklyn!

Brooklyn with his dad

Happy Birthday Brooklyn Beckham who is 8 years old today! Victoria Beckham told The Sun that Brooklyn and his friends would be going to The Hard Rock Cafe in Madrid for Burgers to celebrate his birthday. David Beckham is of course with the team as the squad to face Getafe got together at 8.30pm last night. Let's hope it is a wonderful day for Brooklyn and that his Dad wins his game :)

I have added a few pictures of Brooklyn along with his Nan and Mum watching Becks play in the recent Champions League game between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Feb 20, to the gallery.

Here is David Beckham's documentary from the filiming of the Impossible is Nothing Ad and it's better quality.

Pick of the papers

There were a few good articles in the papers this weekend, the best of them came from Gary Lineker, writing for The Telegraph, who leant support to the calls for David Beckham to be recalled to the England squad.

Nice articles, sort of like a good tie-in with the Adidas behind the scenes vid :)I never knew about the 'hang man' bit that Beckham experience during the aftermath of the Argentina red card. A lesser man would have given up.

Hi Marie :)

Yeah they hung an effigy of David Beckham outside a pub they put a Beckham shirt on it and it was on the front page of The Sun. It was possibly one of the most embarrassingly ugly displays by any nations followers of a sport ever. I personally have always felt the absurdly irrational over-reactions that David Beckham inspires to this day can be traced back to that moment in time, not only the event of the red card but the events that happened shortly after because so much emotion surrounds the whole thing, he did and in some ways still does pay a hell of a price for a tiny flick of his leg that was 9/10's reflex and 1/10 "get off me" as the argentinian player was still on his back. It's sad. He has been incredibly brave and strong and always kept going - that's why he's my hero.

SO sad, and sadder that many of the people who were so angry became even more so when Becks did not bow to their cruelty.
I agree with Anna about the lasting effect. Consciously, or not, some people were really furious at Becks' ability to come back. They just couldn't seem to get over him not having paid the highest price (hopefully in footballing and not hanging terms at least!). So wierd, is it jealousy or fear of confidence they can't understand? It's a scary world where folks can be like that--they wanted him to crumble and are still the minority that lead the "irrational over-reactions."
One of his great contributions as England captain was trying to make sure other players did not go through such an extreme experience when they made mistakes, which I think has been successful to an extent.

HT Score Real Madrid v Getafe 1-1
Thank God! Was scared we would go into the break a goal behind very psychologically important to begin the second half level. Becks went close with one off the bar.

I'm so happy you're here Anna! I was going a little crazy reading the gamecast because, as usual, its impossible to get a general sense of how the two teams look. And particularly how Becks looks! Let me know, if you have a sec.

I only read about the injury in Spanish (Marca). Does anyone know what happened and if Becks is ok?

Hi Diane,

Sorry I didn't you see your message - I don't know details yet but he walked off wasn't stretchered off or anything - I think it's the knee again - he seems to have a recurring injury/weakness there - I'll post as soon as I know any more but hopefully it's minor he did look like he was in pain tho and obviously only 2 days to recover for the CL - he will be heartbroken if he can't go to Munich - but let's not panic yet have to wait for more detailed diagnosis. Sigh not a good game, not a good result bummer. They needed a win not a draw - a win would have meant they were only 4 points off the pace but now they are sitting 6 pts behind Seville.

Hi Diane,

Me too, he crashed into a side barrier and after that he was holding his knee - no way to know how bad it is just yet but I'm praying it's not as bad as it looked - cos he looked like he was in quite a lot of pain but you know it could be something that hurt a lot and he could still bounce back in time (says hoping and praying)
