'Beckham led the battle'
Update - Real Madrid have indicated they will investigate whether David Beckham's yellow card can be appealed. In the same report from The BBC Capello pays David Beckham a great compliment, saying -
His absence would be a very big loss. Now he is in very good form and against Athletic he had a great game.'Beckham led the battle' was the conclusion of AS.com this morning. The post match analysis praised Beckham's contribution complimenting his touch, his passing, his assist for the first goal and his ability to organise the team, setting the pace and plan. Story here. Elias Israel in his post-match player assessments on Yahoo sport said David Beckham was not phased by the hostile atmosphere and was the key factor in the victory. It is always good to see David Beckham getting the recognition he deserves. Source.

He means well and undoubtedly Becks was a good captain but I can't but help wonder if Sven even mentioning Becks does the lad more harm than good.

I think I know what you mean Syd but 9 months of McClaren is the best PR that Sven ever had and he isn't as unpopular in England as he was :)

ya know his new hair reminds me of how they make bad guys look in the movies ya know... do you know what i mean hes got schizo killer hair now... im not trying to be mean ya know it jus really seems like that to me :( im always be a fan but i like better how he looked b4 :[

Maybe the "schizo killer" look helped him not be "phased by the hostile atmosphere" :) ! (Even though I don't quite see the same image :)
Gosh, its going to take a lot of positive thinking -- especially on the part of the rest of the team -- for RM to drive against Sevilla in the clinch.
My husband uses the term "composure" referring to players that remain consistently focused, retain their intelligence and quickness, and therefore make critical plays in the big games -- in traffic, in physical play and in any environment. Becks fits the bill exactly, which is why he'll be particularly missed Sunday at the Bernabau. I'm hoping enough other players can step up!

Looks as if every single video on the web (save for 29 seconds from a camera phone :) ! ) of last night's match has been found and removed due to copyright by Audiovision!!! They must really work fast...

Thanks Diane - I hadn't realised it was no longer working till I saw your comment. I don't quite understand the logic. I mean where can you go and pay for a highlights package? A week from now will there be any broadcaster on the planet showing the material. I can understand them taking issue with the pirate networks that transmit the live games via the internet. As the cable companies pay huge money for TV rights and they want to make people subscribe to cable but once the game is over it's kind of like yesterdays newspaper - I'd be happy to pay and be legit but I don't even know where such a service is offered so taking the 4 and 5 minute highlight reels off-line seems pointless ah well :)
5:48 AM
what was the card for exactly? how good a case for appealing it would they have?
6:52 AM
He received the yellow card for time-wasting - I thought it was harsh but I really don't know what likelihood there would be of a successful appeal.
9:21 AM
I hope they can appeal and David can play!

I agree about the silliness of removing the highlights from youtube. But this one is fabulous. All I could think was, "amazing." After all these years it still amazes me that someone can drop a ball exactly on someone else's head from that distance. And then so much is written about the part we can't see, which is how Becks strikes the ball so fast that it has enough momentum to help finish the goal, and still makes it slow down at the very last minute to drop once it gets where its intended. All of which sound like magic to me : )
(I know I didn't explain that well at all - there's a great description in my recent favorite book, White Angels by John Carlin, but its about a page too long to quote! I'm sure anyone interested in that kind of thing would already understand the intricacies, but if anyone takes a sudden interest I can copy the page for Anna.)

man is that the most completely positive thing Capello said about Beckham ever or what! LOL :- P
11:16 AM
lol Capello isn't real big on sharing the love ;)
Thanks for the highlights...I didn't get to see it so it's great to get to see something of the match :)
2:22 PM
hehe hes definitely easier to see on the pitch with his new hair

Hope they can appeal and Becks can play. The yellow card was harsh.
