'David Beckham will always be a legend'

David Beckham and Roberto Carlos

Roberto Carlos Da Silva, close friend and team-mate of David Beckham, told the Associated Press in an interview earlier today -
In my opinion, he [David Beckham] is among the five or six best players in the world and the best free kick taker," Roberto Carlos said. "For me, David Beckham will always be a legend ... everything David represents for soccer, as an example to children, is reserved for very few people."
He also made some very interesting comments about why Real Madrid had failed to win any competitions in recent seasons. Citing the clubs commercial agenda as a major stumbling block and criticising Real Madrid for "using" David Beckham. You can read the full article here.

It was a great tribute for Roberto Carlos to pay to his good friend, he goes to the very top of the people we love list! Let's wish him every success with whatever club he joins at the end of this season.

Becks still recovering

David Beckham did not return to the pitch today. The official training report in english is online here. Becks remained inside the Gymn facilities and will not be available to travel with the team to Racing Santander, as his injury is taking longer to heal than the doctors predicted, so he needs more time to recover. Let's wish him all the best and hope that he can overcome this injury soon.

On a lighter note, Becks is reportedly planning a boys night out before he heads Stateside. Friends from his childhood and from his years at Manchester United will be invited to a farewell at a London Pub, details here.

Finally, LA Galaxy lost it's first home game of the season 2 - 1 to FC Dallas, more details here.

Bless him.....He must be really disappointed and frustrated.....

It seems that it takes much longer time than expected for him to recover...something really unusal for him....he had been sidelined for 6 weeks.....just wish there is nothing wrong......

Best wishes for him......

Just hope that he can be ready for next week's game, and Capello can really give him some play time.....

I'm a bit worry! Is there anything wrong? It has been 6 weeks since he got injured! 2 weeks more than the expected recovery time! Beckham is always a very fit lad. It's really unusal for him!

Wish him all the best!!!

Poor David I thought he would be back for this weekend for sure. Knees can be a really big problem for football players... hope this isn't going to drag on or require surgery... :(

On the night, there was mention that Beck's injury was more serious than Reyes' but since Becks walked off maybe were more hopeful.
The first medical report did say 4 to 6 weeks, so I am now holding on to thinking the longer estimate just turned out to be accurate instead of there being a re-injury or set-back.
Sending tons of healing thoughts and mom-concern! (I guess soup doesn't ship well...)

Actually the club only issued the one medical report saying approximately 4 weeks 'cuatro semanas' for Beckham and 3 weeks for Reyes. Reyes did recover in the 3 weeks, Becks has not recovered in the approximately 4. It is a worry. I hope the lad recovers in the next few days. The fact he has been on the pitch and then headed back to the gym twice now makes it clear that there has been set backs, hopefully he'll be fit soon.

I'd rather have him out for another few days and let him cure it out completley, so he doesn't suffer any setbacks or worse injuries.

For me it would be enough if he comes back in the last LaLiga game and scores the Winner to secure him a farewell Primera Division Title ;-)

What would I give to be at that Men Only party :-D

Have a nice day everyone

Obviously no one wants him back before hes ready and no one wants the lad to take any risks, thats a given. But I know myself that being injured is miserable and Becks will want to be playing so I hope for his sake that he can come back before the last game. It might be enough for you if he plays the last game but that isn't necessarily enough for him or what he wants... and I happen to think what he wants is what matters.

To the person who commented second, I don't think we should worry that anything is wrong. The medical staff gave a time-frame but every injury is different and it takes as long as it takes certainly at this stage there is no reason to be alarmed and whoever mentioned surgery is getting a little ahead of things.

Loredana, I am going to say a prayer for him too, I hope his friends and family are helping keep his spirits up, he will probably be well and truly fed up with being in recovery!

Ben and everyone else too, hope you have a nice weekend.

I didn't know I could love Roberto Carlos more than I did!!! I'm sure we would enjoy the whole transcript of that interview. NOT a request Anna -- you are only a magician, not a sorceress:).
Have you guys read John Carlin's book, White Angels, about RM and Becks' first year there? If anyone hasn't, it includes wonderful stories about all of the players, stories from them about each other, and much that bears out what Roberto Carlos says.

Hello Anna,
I am hurt with the result of the game. It's a shame that the team couldn't win today to be on top of the table. We still have 8 more games to go, hopefully Barcelona and Sevilla don't win tomorrow . I still have faith that we can win the title. Ciao:)
