David Beckham on Revista

becks and henrietta

Update April 25 - AS.com has a longer excerpt from David Beckham's interview. If you don't have this option in your browser copy the article and paste into the babel fish translator.

David Beckham was interviewed tonight on Sky sports Revista de la liga. You can read some of his comments online here and also here. I hope to have a video available tomorrow.

Becks, being as always a gentleman, refused to criticise Real Madrid or his current manager. I think David Beckham is an example to us all in the way he conducts himself and there is real wisdom in his approach. Becks has the sense to know when criticism will do more harm than good and the judgement to choose the minimum words necessary to deliver a restrained but effective message when he has something to say. He's a class act!

I posted a story last month from The Guardian about David Beckham mentoring Henrietta Brockway, story here scans of photos that accompanied the hard-copy article have been kindly donated to the site by a generous fan and are in the gallery. Thanks!

well said Anna, Beckham is and will probably always be a gentleman, one of the few left. He is a very good example, especially to us kids who have him as our hero. He has proven to be one of the greatest and best examples. Now there is almost no athlete who has not been involved in a problem of some sort for the things they are doing (if you know what i mean), but Becks has been an example of working hard and getting your dream through the hard work.

There also is wisdom in what you say Anna, cheers for that!

Becks is a GREAT man. There are very few people like him in Spots History.
For all his success, money and celebrity, he kept his humbleness and humaneness.
Great man, really.

Thank you so much for adding the AS link. We might have gotten some of the quotes elsewhere but the reader comments are incredible. They actually made me cry. (I really am going to be pitiful this last month aren't I ;) ). Can't imagine reading remarks more beautiful about anyone, enhanced as they are by the language, and so well deserved.
The pain of regret surrounding this departure is already evident, a strong but bittersweet testament to Becks. I am certainly going to have to put some extra effort into being excited about his next project...but if he can be, so can I!

I know diane...it would be really emotional with Beckham leaving...there are already a number of sports commentators mentioning the same thing whilst watching Beckham play his last matches for Real Madrid...I feel for the fans there
