Go Becks!

David Beckham

Update - Photos of Becks arriving in Bilbao Saturday are in the gallery

The squad list is out and the final training session is complete, you can view the training report in english online here. David Beckham will travel with the team tonight to San Mames ahead of the match against Athletic Bilbao. Becks will hopefully start as expected following his performance against Valencia. Capello when asked whether David Beckham would start said "The important thing is that he's recovered. He trained very well this week and we'll see if he's a starter tomorrow. I still don't know what my initial lineup will be." (Source)

A fierce physical contest between two sides with a huge amount at stake is predicted. Athletic Bilbao are facing relegation and desperately need the life-line these three points might provide but Real Madrid, having narrowed the gap at the top of the table to two points for a second time, can not afford a slip if their title hopes are to stay alive. View match preview.

I'm already nervous and it's not even Sunday yet! Let's all hope that earlier la liga results favor Real Madrid and relieve some of the pressure. Either way, here's hoping Becks has another great game and that Real Madrid win. Go Becks and Hala Madrid.

I'll be back after the game. Updates may be a little less frequent for the next four days as I am working on a few things for the site to celebrate David Beckham's birthday next Wednesday!

Woah! Steady on there Capello that's another compliment for Becks in under a week!

Anna... don't know if you saw but I said similar things in the comments below. I feel like this could definitely be one of those banana skin matches but if they come through with the right results in these next two matches... I think they'll win it. Everything crossed.

Hey don't get too high expectations about the B'day post, I'll do my best but I don't want you to be disappointed lol :)

To the person who asked about the icon contest. The contest is over if you weren't notified that you were successful then you didn't win sorry.

It seems I may not be able to watch the match live after all -- my daughter's club has one far away and I would miss it traveling. So just in case I do the right thing and go with my daughter, please leave me notes about your impressions if you have a minute. Reading the match report never gives the same flavor as you guys do! I will be rooting as fervently as ever, and of course taking care of the worrying after the boys' health task... :)

Syd, if you are around, I agree with you about Higuain, looks like he could really be something down the line. It often seems to take players a season to fully show themselves in a new team -- especially when young. I am already crossing everything I can ahead of tomorrow too!!!

:-D Anna, whatever you do for the birthday, don't forget to put "from davidbeckham.fans-online.com" across it in huge letters so that we can all share in sending the good wishes!

p.s. Congrats to ManU fanatics

yeah, about the contest. I didn't even do it, i was just wondering cause I kind of had curiousity about who won.

Blogger rpm said...

lol that makes no sense why would it matter to you who won if you didn't even enter? There were two prizes and the people who made the shortlist of the best entries were asked if they were ok with sharing their icons and info on the site. I would never under any circumstances post info about any fan or post their art without their explicit permission. Sorry but you'll just have to live with your curiosity :)

Hey Diane, yes it has been a good weekend for us Man U fans I'll definitely post anything I think you'd be interested in :)

Thanks for the new pictures, I'm liking the new hair more, he still looks great!

I hope Real Madrid wins tonight, they deserve it. I also love your commentary, it is just one of the many fabulous things about your site. :) I'll be back later lol.

Thanks Anna -- there's still a chance I'll desert my offspring and go to a bar instead (for the RM match of course) :) ! I'll see whether its a big deal one way or the other for her...but any viewpoints would be appreciated just in case...

To the icon contest questioner: (since I seem to have made myself official Auntie) you had your answer several posts ago, no need to have asked again. We all need to be patient as we get much more than we could possibly hope for from this site, meaning from Anna's generosity with her time. Asking for more is marginal and asking twice is not ok. I'm sure it was all in good spirits, but just for future reference.

Now my hopes focus on A GREAT AND SUCCESSFUL MATCH FOR BECKS TODAY!!!!!!!!! GO RM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Diane, thanks for being Auntie :) I don't know if this will influence your decision but although Reuters, AS and Marca (as recently as today) have reported he is expected to start, the team sheet showing on El Pais does not show Becks in the starting line-up I don't know if it is 100% accurate but it suggests that maybe Capello is going to go with Higuain and Becks will be a second half sub again? I don't know who is right at the moment :)

for the love of God! Sevilla has won. Barca are leading. If Capello does not start with Beckham he is a fool and too much is at stake to gamble on the youngsters who so far have disappointed... I hope the team sheet is not definite

Blogger rpm said...

lol I was just coming to say that they have updated the team sheet now and Becks is on it - so Becks will start as I would imagine they have updated the page because the details have come out. So don't panic!! Sorry, I just wasn't sure what time we would know. He will start as expected :)

and now 2-0 Van Nistelrooy assisted by cicinho this time phew we can breathe :)

Athletic had one good chance but kicked over :) Becks had one semi chance but not in quite the right position, but he looked frustrated not to have got his head to it.

np :) It's ok don't worry about it.

It's been a while since we were 2-0 up going into the break, I can't remember the last time. It makes a nice change. Becks has been doing well his passing has been very on target, I don't have stats but I'd say his completed pass stats would be rocking it :))

oh and for the person who asked who scored you can get a live gamecast that will give you some basic info here

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/scoreboard?league=esp.1&date=next&cc=5739

just paste that into your browser and then select gamecast under the Athletic Bilbao v Real Madrid

hope that helps :)

brace for Van the Man :) Leading 3-0 Some of the tackles are getting a bit rash from Athletic. Capello can afford to start subbing crucial players with Sevilla coming up next, soon.

Yes they won and they won well and Becks had an assist and a good game :) But Sevilla is a crunch match - maybe "the" crunch match... so his missing it is a blow.
