David Beckham absolutely delighted!

Update - You can listen to McClaren being interviewed on the BBC about David Beckham's recall, he mentions that he met with Becks 10 days ago at which time he let Becks know that a recall was a possibility. You can also watch McClaren explaining his decision on Football Focus.

David Beckham was "absolutely delighted" when he received the news from Steve McClaren that he would be included in the England squad named today. Full details of Steve McClaren's comments to Sky Sports can be viewed online here and you can also read and watch his comments to BBC Sport. Here are excerpts from his comments -

Sky Sports- "David was absolutely delighted as I knew he would be.

David Beckham at Wembley last week"He is coming into form and deserves to be here. We've got a very big game in Estonia coming up that we have to win and I've got to pick a squad capable of doing that. That's why I've picked David.

"Winning away at international level is very difficult anywhere and we need as much experience as we can get."

McClaren attributed Beckham's recall to his form during the second half of the La Liga season. "Since Christmas his form has been very good, I think he can help us win in Estonia and that's why I picked him."

"I feel at this moment, that for the Estonia game, we need experience and David certainly provides that. He is in very, very good form. The team needs that."

BBC Sport - "Everyone knows David's attributes and he's a big-game player who can help us win in Estonia.

"Everybody's professional and we've a squad that will blend together that will get us a result and I'm sure everyone will welcome David back"

there i go, smiling again. i'm happy McClaren was able to set pride aside, and do what was best for england.

he made the right decision, and i liked that he has kept the future open. i can't wait to hear from david. he has certainly earned his spot on the squad, and NO ONE can take that away from him.

it's way too early for all this excitement, i have to save some for the game.

I don't want to take the edge off of anyones happiness I'm grinning like a fool meself!! BUT I don't think McClarens motives for recalling him are any better than his motives for dropping him. It's all about what serves his interest and will save his backside...but I'll take it! The main thing is Becks gets to play at Wembley as someone said and add to his caps. He deserves to be there and he is there so that'll do me.

I'm watching BBC world right now, and they showed an excerpt of Mclaren's interview...I'm afraid I could not stay up (its 2:30 am here) :( as I have a migraine...and I'm getting ready to turn in right now. But I'll check here first thing in the morning. :) Hopefully Real Madrid would win :) :) :) and it would be a perfect day for Beckham.

Great picture of him at Wembley.
Is he wearing that yellow ribbow because of the missing girl Madeleine? :-(

He also wore it at The Greatest Briton Awards.

I remember I read it somewhere, but I'm not so sure about it.

It's a bit weird being happy about his England recall and at the same time to remember about the missing girl. It's frustating to know we cannot do that much to help. :-(
