David Beckham interview

There is a great interview with David Beckham in The Times ahead of today's FA Cup final at Wembley. He is of course tipping Manchester United to take the title. Becks talks about his forthcoming move to Los Angeles and also about how much he would still love to play for his country. Here are some excerpts -
On acting & botox -
what about the stories that he is looking for a film role? “No chance.” Or a recent report that he had Botox injections? “Seriously? I would never touch anything like that.”
On Sir Alex Ferguson -
We’ve still not sat down for a proper talk and I’m not sure we ever will, but I’ll only ever speak fondly of him. I never really wanted to leave United but he gave me the chance to play for the club I always dreamt about at United. I owe him so much out of my career.
On moving to LA -
It is Hollywood and people are speculating that we are going to spend all the time with movie stars because we have some famous friends but it is not like that. I’ve got a job to do and that means mucking in with people on and off the pitch.
“I will be training as hard as I ever have done. I am not getting any younger so I have to work harder than ever. There have been high expectations of me throughout my career.”
He jokes about nipping down on to the Wembley pitch for a quick kick-about just in case he never gets another opportunity.
I know we all hope that he will get the opportunity! For his sake and also for the sake of the England national team and supporters. For the rest of the interview and all David Beckham's comments click here

I have tears in my eyes reading this interview, seriously.
Especially when he says he didn't really wanted to leave United.
Reading this quote is painful. :-(
He should be there, at Wembley, playing with United. :-(
As always, he is a gentleman with Ferguson and the club he loves. Nice words Becks. Thanks for that.
Lol at the botox thing. It's good that Becks has sense of humour.
And it's really admirable the way he talks about Zizou. I can understand him when he says that playing with a genius like Zizou is so valuable or more valuable than titles.
In a team like Madrid the players must win titles, but surely to play with Zinédine seems to be very blessing to him.
Probably to some people it will be blah blah blah, but it really means something to him. He often mentions Zizou.
I have a question:
Was he at Wembley recently? It seems he gave this interview there, isn't it? *confused*
Too bad he can't watch the big FA Cup final. He certainly was invited, I think.

Oh and I forgot to mention the England thing.
Unfortunately, I do not believe that the
!@#$%^&* McClaren (it's not polite to describe with words my feeling for this man, and he worked with Becks at United...God) will call Becks again.
But miracles can happen, we Becks fans know it. Hope I'm wrong and McClaren will call him back.
Hopefully, hopefully. I will pray for that.
And not because he is Becks, but because he is playing very good football at the moment.
That should be the reason for calling the players, not off the pitch reasons.

I loved this article. It was one of the most substantive I've seen in a long time. The one line about Becks arriving just as RM was taken over by its marketing department was so well put. Then his own description of what followed, the rewards as well as the pitfalls of his time there, was really eloquent. Becks doesn't often get enough credit for that level of self-awareness and the grasp he has on all that swirls around him.
Mind, heart, soul, humor, talent...I agree with <3!
And it would be GREAT to see him play for England again!

Siniestrototal, the interview seems to have been done in Becks' box at Wembley on Friday.

Sorry! Just reread the article and it only says he had to leave to be with RM and won't be there for the match. It doesn't say exactly WHEN he was leaving to be with RM ;-)

Of him we appreciate the serenyti, is true that many speculate exalting the superficial( second them), of the Becks instead are convinced of the goodness of him augur to It to return to play for its country. Good day. Loredana Samuele Gabriel

lovely comments from a lovely man :-)

I agree with you Siniestro as much as I wish it was otherwise, while McClown is still manager I can't see a recall for Becks... How much longer will we have to wait before he is sacked!

Thanks very much for the Daily Mail article. :-D
So he was Tuesday at Wembley and no one from the paparazzi knew about it. AWESOME!!! :-D
I think the paparazzi follow him too much, so it's a pleasure to know he can still go to a public place without being followed.
I'm really sad with what happened at the FA Cup final, though. :-(

Hi Siniestrototal - it was a %&*&%$%#@#$$ shame about the FA Cup but we won the League and it's been a strong season with lots of good football and next season will be even better :)
8:55 PM
Yeah, yeah...it was a very good season with wonderful matches, but we faced Chelsea 3 times and didn't won. That is not good and to lose the last match of the season against them, was a bit painful.
But United had an amazing season with some unforgettable matches. This FA Cup defeat cannot change it. :-)
