David Beckham lends a hand
As many of you will be aware from news reports, a little girl, 3 year-old Madeleine McCann, was taken from the hotel she was staying at with her family in Portugal last week. The Telegraph reports that David Beckham is to make a television appeal for the safe return of the missing toddler before her fourth birthday tomorrow. Becks will ask the public in Spain to call detectives if they have any information that can help. The Mirror reports that David Beckham got in touch with the family after he heard what had happened because as a parent he was horrified by their ordeal and wanted to help. They have asked him to make the appeal. Let's all pray for her safe return.
Becks kicks off Motorola AIDS Campaign
Motorola Australia and local carrier Optus have teamed up to release a range of handsets called the "moto red" collection, which aims to raise funds to eliminate AIDS in Africa. The Red initiative was founded by U2 lead-singer Bono and Bobby Shriver. David Beckham, in his role as Motorola global ambassador, will be promoting the collection. Full details here. It has been officially confirmed that Real Madrid will play a friendly against a team comprising Israeli and Palestinian players on June 19 in Israel. David Beckham is a Real Madrid player until June 30 and he is expected to travel with the squad. Details here.

I really admire him even more for helping the people who had their daughter taken...hes such a good man! I just really hope that they are able to find her and get her back to her parents safe and sound!

I hope for happy ending too can not imagine how terrible the parents must be feeling...such a nightmare. Is good that David can use his fame for good to get the word out and get more attention for it now hopefully she can be found is so sad :((

Look it might seem a bit of stretch but this TV appeal actually makes me think he will be happy in the MLS/US Becks has a strong civic streak...he likes to help out feel useful...we might all be lamenting the level of football but if he truly feels useful and helpful and like he can make a difference he might really be happy with that. Good on the lad for helping these people...it's a terrible business.

good to see david doing his bit also if you want to show support for the family - dress in yellow and wear yellow ribbons to keep this story high profile and to show solidarity with this poor family and what they are going through!

Syd, I think you are stretching as you said and I can't really see the connection to be honest, no offense!
Like everyone else I think this was a wonderful thing for Becks to do and I hope that they will find Maddie...a story like this really puts life and day to day problems into perspective...it's just awful that something like this can happen to people :(
