Just a reminder that an interview with David Beckham will air later today at 5PM GMT or 6PM London time on Radio Five Live's 606 program. You can listen live or download a podcast of the interview
online here from 7PM tonight. The BBC have released a few quotes from
the interview this morning, you can
listen here, David Beckham told Five Live -
"I still feel I would be able to play for England if it ever comes up again. The US season is shorter and I'll be fitter because training will be more difficult because of the humidity."
"We only play 30 games a year so we get more time off,"
"I had offers from two big clubs in Italy and offers from clubs in England but I just felt it was the right time to pack up and leave.
"I was honoured to have played for Manchester United for so many years and obviously Real Madrid for four years.
"But I wanted a different challenge and to me the biggest challenge was going to America and playing in the MLS and living a different lifestyle. I'm looking forward to it."
David Beckham interview in Gazetta dello Sport
Channel 4 have a translation of an excellent interview with David Beckham published in Gazetta dello Sport,
read it here. In the interview Becks talks about his friendship with Fabio Cannavaro, his love of Italy and how tempted he was by the offer he received to play for Milan.
7 Comments:
I would have liked him to go to Italy but I can understnd why he didnt want too
I guess the 64 million dollar question is if he was making the decision now would he still want a different challenge? or would he want to stay at Real Madrid? guess we'll never know
hope things work out for him in everything he does

i'm not sure who would have the game online, sorry.
thanks for the quotes, anna. i look forward to this interview. although would it have been too much for it to have been filmed? geez.
it is sad that he had to pursue new challenges, because he wasn't so fulfilled in madrid, at the time. selfishly, i'll get to see him play. so, something good came out of it. lol.

I'm looking forward to hear the BBC interview, couldn't hear it live. Thanks God it is available to download. :-)
Cool interview to La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Going to AC Milan would really be a better option, much better than Madrid, but we clearly understand him. To adapt to a new language, culture is not that easy.
And I like him even more when he says he had to think about his family.
Not many people are like this.
Thanks God our lovely Becks is like this.
But then you think. Now that he's playing amazingly well for Madrid, now that he was recalled to England.
Now you stop and think:
Are you seeing it Mijatovic? Are you seeing it Calderón?
I remember Becks wanted some time to decide his future, he wanted to wait until March, at least.
But @@#$@$%$^# Mijatovic and his RM wanted to solve it as soon as possible.
I still think if the RM camp were more patient, Becks would have stayed there.
That's why I think it's much more RM's fault than McClaren's on his decision to going to LA Galaxy instead of staying in Madrid.

Well Siniestrototal Mijatovic, Calderon and Capello well and truly see now and clearly know they ballsed up but they can't do nowt about it. Some say that if Becks had still been playing for England he would have stayed in Europe and gone to Milan and I think there could be some truth to that. I certainly think the double whammy was what did the damage. If all had been sweet with England but their was trouble at the club or vice versa he'd been axed by England but Madrid were showing him some love, who knows perhaps things would have gone differently? I think it was the double that caused the trouble.
