McClaren praises David Beckham

There are another 24 training pictures of David Beckham in the gallery
Steve McClaren has praised David Beckham's desire and how hard he has worked to be recalled for England, explaining that he had earnt it, here are some of his comments -
"He showed great hunger and desire to get back. He didn't moan, just got his head down and worked hard."Don't worry Mr. McClaren anyone who has watched David Beckham over the last few years has never doubted he was amongst the best 22 players for England at all times. Read the full story and all the comments at The BBC
"I have not made this decision for anyone, it is about form. He is the fittest I have seen for a long time."
After one match, Capello said David ran 15 kilometres and the next highest figure was 12km. In another he ran 80 yards in the last minute to create a winning goal.
"Anyone who has watched David over the last few months must understand why he is in the squad"
The Sun and Reuters also have more comments from McClaren including comments on the decision that David Beckham would not speak to press after being recalled, he said -
“David wants that as well."
“When we spoke two weeks ago we agreed on that. He just wants to play football."
“We want the player performing on the field. That’s what I’ve said to him and he agrees with that and that’s all we want. That’s why he doesn’t want to speak this week.”
David Beckham and the Pink Plaster
If, like me, you looked at the pictures of Becks with a pink plaster on his back from Saturday's game against Deportivo and thought "hmmm I wonder what that's for and what a funny shape and did he choose the color?" David Beckham's spokesman Simon Oliveira has kindly provided an explanation "He's simply got a knot in his back, and the plaster stretches it, generating heat in that area of his back, and helping alleviate the strain." Mr Oliveira also said that medical staff at Real Madrid had chosen the plaster for Becks. Here's hoping that Becks is feeling better! SourceOther news
The Sun reports that Becks will sadly miss Gary Neville's wedding because it is scheduled for June 16, the day before Real Madrid's final match of La Liga against Mallorca and scheduling is just too tight as Becks will be expected to meet up with the team at 8.30PM the day before the game. Gary Neville was David Beckham's best man and the two have been best friends for many years, so Becks will be very disappointed not to be there for his special day. However, I'm sure Gary will more than understand and be hoping that Becks will pick up a spanish league winners medal to match his own english one!Guillem Balague says in his AS.com column, that David Beckham thought he would never play for England again and that it hurt him deeply. When he was told that he was being considered it came as a surprise. He was very nervous before confirmation of his England recall came and he received the phone call only 30 minutes before Steve McClaren made the news public. There was lots of hugging and celebrating when the news came!
Since then, Balague says he has not spoken with David Beckham as Becks is avoiding all media contact and keeping a very low profile. His main priority is proving that he deserves his place and should keep it, when of course he should never have been left out. (this is a very rough and approximate translation)
The Evening Standard has an interview with one of the UK's top referees, Graham Poll, that includes him talking about the support he received from David Beckham after he made an error during a game at last year's World Cup. It really shows what a very special man David Beckham is.

anna, what did you think of Mcclaren? i didn't mind it, or what he said about capello. him sort of likening his situation to capello's.
i mean the situations have similarities. i guess my bottom line is both men corrected the situations, so i'm just happy about that. we cant' change what happened.

I understand that david does not want to talk to media...even though I really want to know hear want David wanted to say, well the 'pictures speak a thousand words' we know beckham is happy in trainning. :) that is all that matters

Tanique it's so complicated and it would take a lot of explaining beginning with McClaren's live press conference that I watched last August - but when it comes to McClaren and Capello there really is very little that is similar between the situations or the men - at the most superficial and basic level they both dropped him for very very different reasons, they both recalled him for very very different reasons and they both treated him shabbily but for different reasons, with different motives and to different degrees. It is unfair and a media manipulation for McClaren to fall back on Capello as some explanation for his own behaviour as Sid Lowe in the Guardian wrote - McClaren exiled Beckham whilst he was still a first team starter at Real Madrid, his decision must stand alone.
The way I look at, David Beckham is there, he's smiling and he's in training and talking to and co-operating with McClaren. He has the character, the back bone and is a big enough man to get past the unforgiveable way in which McClaren used him as a PR card, if he can do it when it happened to him, it didn't happen to me, then I can at the very least bite my tongue for the most part lol and keep my editorialising to a minimum. However, I will never be as good and kind hearted a soul as Becks - I can shut up, but I'm a long way from forgiving or forgetting :)

seriously anna, i can't handle the pictures. THANKS!!! as marie says, how he feels about being back is written all over his face.
7:09 PM
thanks anna. i appreciate your persepctive. i have my opinion too, but like you i'll curb it on here. lol. i hear you, and know for the circumstances are vastly different. i just meant both men benching him and recalling him were where the smiliarities lay. but i totally get what you're saying, and agree with some of it.
i suppose it's just my nature to forge forward. i think they were both wrong, but seeing david in his element, is where i'm focusing. or maybe i'm just used to coaches doing things like they did.
anyway, thanks for your side.

^^ You can be thrilled Becks is back and still see McClaren for the complete idiot that he is lol I know I do and even though he has bought Becks back and I'm really happy about it I still hope for the sake of the team that McClaren gets the sack because hes useless!!

I think it's a good decision not let Becks talk with the press during these two matches.
Becks is there to help the team and to play football and hopefully to score the winner against Estonia. :-) His football will do the talking.
Hope he scores against Brazil aswell.
I think I'm asking a lot...hehe!
Agree with the post above. It does not matter if McClaren recalled Becks. I will never forget his unfair attitute towards Becks. Don't like him at all.
But now that Becks is back, I can't wish McClaren to be sacked, at least at this moment, simply because it would mean England lost or only draw against Estonia.
And I don't want it to happen.
But he certainly does not have the level and enough experience to be the England coach.

I consent on all with you. Different situation, CAPELLO as to coach it has the dorsal thorn strongly while Steve no .Io I do not love CAPELLO but I appreciate it like trainer because he is winning. Hour the is truth that David is in squad. Thanks ANNE for the information. Hello, Loredana

Marca says that the two last league matches will be all at the same day and most of them at the same time.
37th match - June 9th, 21:00 PM (Madrid time)
38th match - June 17th, probably 21:00 PM (Madrid time)

But I think it will be impossible for Becks to go to Gary's wedding anyway.
Too bad. :-(
But his last match at Bernabéu is more important. :-)
And hopefully Becks will score.
10:41 PM
Sorry, Sini - I know the match is June 17 - it's just they all meet at Valdedebas and take the bus to the team hotel the day before the match - they go into "match mode" 24 hours before every game and the team always spends the night before games at a hotel whether games are home or away I'll try to think of another way to write it so it is more clear :)
I'm really sorry he can't go to Gary's wedding it's a shame what a pity the wedding isn't a week later. Oh well :(

thanx for the pink plaster info lol i did wonder!! :0)

his phone call to Graham Poll shows what a good man David beckham is, to be thinking of others before an important match, its amazing to me. Its sad about Graham Poll though...having experienced the mistakes of the referees in la liga i can appreciate a good official like Graham Poll. At least in La Liga, the higher administration listen to appeals :)

I agree, McClaren and Capello's situations were completely different, sure they both benched him and recalled him but that's all they have in common and thats hardly basis for saying it's similar.
For starters McClown is rewriting history as per bloody usual when he says Capello bought Becks back when he was on form... no he didn't. Becks hadn't played a game in over a month and was being made train in isolation, when Capello recalled him. Capello bought him back because he made a mistake and he said so.
McClown is yet to admit to making a mistake he keeps trying desperately to convince everyone that Becks deserved to be dropped...wrong...and that hes only back because hes a different player now... look hes having a good run no doubt... but he was also one of the best for England at the world cup and its just more re-writing of history to suggest otherwise. Hes bought him back because... although he thought he could drop one of Englands best and do the big I'm me own man thing and still get by because England had drawn such an easy group for Euro 2008 qualification... it all blew up in his very red face.
Now that its all gone pear shaped its time to bring back the lad to save it all. Should never have dropped him in first place. I've no time for McClown hes not a managers elbow. Capello is a much better manager than McClown will ever be.

All the quotes attempting to re-write history at the moment, so that certain people can save face, really grate. McClaren's are annoying but, on top of his treatment of Becks, he'd already established himself as a wimp and delusional at best (his post-match comments alone make the case). As Becks said a few months ago, at least Capello never lied, and he isn't still.
Even Mijatovic isn't lieing for a change, admitting that Madrid made a mistake.
I have been trying to focus on the many joys of this week -- which still make me tremendously happy -- ;-) !

awwwww...poor David! but its for the best. maybe Gary will video tape it for David to see
