David Beckham in demand

Real Madrid President, Ramon Calderon, has told Marca, and the story has been picked up by Sky Sport and The BBC, that a clause in the contract that David Beckham has signed with the LA Galaxy allows for Real Madrid to make a bid for Becks to stay and they intend to try and convince him to remain at the club. Calderon said "We want to fight for him, David has demonstrated that he is a superstar with pride in the white shirt."
Of course one can't help but wonder, knowing the politics that Calderon is capable of, if this is a media stunt to appease the Real Madrid fans and convey an impression that every effort was made by the club to keep Becks. As a chain of events are now in motion which are most probably irreversible. However, even if that is the case, it is a testament to David Beckham that Real Madrid know they have made a mistake and that he is held in such high regard by the club's supporters. Story here.
As this story is being picked up by every media outlet in the world as I type - I expect we will hear a statement from David Beckham's spokesman before long.
Update - As expected a response from David Beckham's spokesman has been issued, reconfirming his committment to joining the LA Galaxy statement here.

Its too late but its satisfying to see him prove people wrong yet again. The guy was just in a minor slump and management chose to treat him like crap.

It is a stunt as you say because in 1 week Calderon fears that when Beckham says farewell at Bernabeu and with la liga title in his luggages that the supporters will hiss at him for being the reason that Beckham is no longer of the team! So quickly he puts out stories now...but we are trying to keep him and can not boo hoo, Beckham wishes to go is not the fault of club what can we do boo hoo. Makes the agent to come out and to say Beckham looks to LA... is smart the fans will not be so angry.

That is a perfect description of what is going on. I'm not sure I even believe that there is a clause in his contract, but even if there is, if Becks says that he'll keep his word and honor his obligation to Galaxy, Calderon can so Oh look we want him but he wants U.S....same old string of lies...
But even that man can't ruin my mood or my happiness if the team can celebrate winning La Liga together! What a day yesterday!!!!!!!!!

Frankly speaking,I'd like to see him stay,or go back to Man Utd. He's too good to go to MLS.

i'll be happy if he chooses to stay with Real or go to LA. if he thinks its best for him then ok. i will always be his fan so he can do watever he wants

Becks people say he is looking forward to coming to L.A so let him. I can't wait, everything is getting bigger and bigger over here and when he comes it's going to blow up. Becks is L.A bound sorry but Real dropped the ball. They treated him like crap and now what goes around comes around. Becks was/is great and those people should have known that.
