thanx! hey one thing that kinda seemed weird was they made it sound like the spanish players were not so nice to him for a long time and stuff but like that can't include my iker cos iker and becks are like bestest friends and close!! ;0)
why friday the 13th!!! Yikes couldn't they have done it a difrent day!!! Seriusly I'm not that superstitius but why risk it!?!
picking up on what cc said although I personally don't care specifically about Casillas and I don't think they were especially great friends certainly he was nowhere near the friend to the lad that Roberto was…does anyone else think it is strange that both of the commentator guys agree Becks was amazing in his first season and was the best player in Spain…which he was…but then the spanish chap says it wasn't until the third year that the spanish players in the team decided he was useful… I mean how much jealousy and determination not to give credit would they have had to have had to only allow that the lad might be useful in year 3? I found that comment pretty telling. People blamed the galactico era for Reals lack of success but it was the spanish and the two spanish 'galacticos' aka super egos that were the problem if you ask me.
honestly, i'm not so sure i believe that it took until year 3 for him to be accepted. i'm going to give the guys the benefit of the doubt and trust things they've said and video and pics i've seen. i think there was certainly jealousy initially. but i just don't accept it took some guys 3 years to come around to who david is as a person and player. i actually think he and iker did become good friends. i'm not sure i'll ever get an answer for why they didn't win before this season. i can't blame any one thing. i've seen many teams with all the talent in the world, not win. it just happens sometimes. thanks a bunch anna, for hte last 2 clips.
What have they said that makes you think it didn't take any of the guys until year 3? What makes you believe he and Casillas became good friends? I'm interested. I think he got on ok with all the lads by the end but if you don't want to take the word of Balague fair enough though he has no reason to lie and if you don't want to listen to the wider media who have commented it took Raul until year 4 to thaw out… fair enough but perhaps you'll listen to Becks? The lad is pretty generous in his praise of others very quick to give thanks and credit to those who looked after him and helped him and hes been consistent in what hes said so its pretty clear the Brazilians and the other international players were those that were good to him and his family, took care of him, helped him and so on. In clip 5 watch carefully, Balague says "The Spanish contingent like to keep themselves to themselves and Becks nods and says yes and clearly acknowledges that as true. Its right there on film from the man himself. You have to remember Becks criticises no one. He said in his last press conference that he had respect for Calderon. He's diplomatic and gracious. He goes out of his way to get on with people, the more difficult they are for the sake of team spirit, the more he will cajole, kid around with them and try to keep things working… as a result it is easy to think Becks gets on with or likes people who in fact are not treating him well. The little moment in clip five is quite telling because it's acknowledgement of the fact the spanish contingent were not welcoming and Becks does not acknowledge such things very openly it's not his style. He's always been very classy.
Anna – You're the best
A huge thank you very much for the Adios Beckham Clips.I'm a bit disapointed that they didn't show like a recap of all his RM goals and great passes or so tough.does anybody know against who the goal in the 7th and last video around 2:47-2:51 is ? (RM play in white shirts and he receives the ball from the middle and chips it into the top left corner)Ben
Thanks Anna! Syd I think its hard for us to know the truth because Becks doesn't criticise and will even sometimes praise someone who doesn't really deserve it…like Calderon…he really is such a lovely man! I do agree with you that it is widely believed that Becks did not receive a friendly welcome from some of the players such as Raul I have read that several places and the spanish presenter does seem to be friendly with Becks and be in the know…
LOL Friday the 13th! Good thing David isn't superstitious
Thanks for the clips I liked his hair back then!
Thanks Anna I really enjoyed the program… the part with zizou is so nice… it made me cry!
Thanks a lot for the videos.I think no one can please everybody, even for someone as nice and adorable as Beckham. Jealousy is just a human nature. At least Beckham had won the ture friendship of the Brazilians and the international players. Just let the Spanish players be!Somehow I cannot help a bit worry about Beckham's situation in the LA Team…..Just think about the difference in their earnings……I know Beckham is a really nice person, but as I have said before, jealousy is just a human nature…….Bless him…..
David is a boy to which it is difficult not to want well, is convinced that him it is successful to at least earn the respect of its companions. It with its positive character succeeds to conquer and makes itself to love. Day 13 and of friday: to the face of the superstition. God always protect him! (We hope that we have translate well). Hello, Loredana, Samuele, Gabriel
Even in workplaces that are not so intimate and charged as a clubhouse, there are all kinds of relationships among co-workers. You can have great affection for someone and enjoy each other's company on the job and not carry that home. (As for who knew the kids, the players were allowed to bring them to training on weekends). Thank goodness the man managed enough privacy that we can't know what went on outside the club.I agree with Syd about the Spanish contingent's wariness, which I find less strange than just a shame. Remember how much pressure Raul and Guti were under to produce while the club was being miserably mismanaged. These guys had plenty of problems of their own. Raul's form slipped to the point that he offered to retire at the beginning of this season, and Guti always took heat from press and fans for being a prima donna. I'm not saying I'm sympathetic, all leaders have to deal with these things. Whether and when Raul became a fan of Becks, the fact that he maintained a place in the squad meant that some underlying respect existed–because Raul had so much power to effect that. As for year three, with Becks leading La Liga in assists and much of the rest of the team struggling, it would have been hard to continue to resist crediting the man who was putting the ball at their feet. And I'm sure Becks would have surprised Raul with support when he was at his lowest, because that is his way, whether the same care had been afforded him earlier or not–possibly an added factor in the team leaders finally backing Becks in January. Whatever the case, most footballers sign for clubs so young, Becks' at 13 even though he didn't move north until 16, that they grow up in the clubhouse and juggling the big egos there becomes as familiar as juggling family issues for the rest of us. As we all know, Becks' honest kindness and generosity as well as the fact that he is the consummate team player, serve him better than most in that environment but it can't fix everything. Which brings me to the fact that I am also worried about how even he will diffuse some of the tensions that must be building in the Galaxy and other MLS dressing rooms with the salary issues, all the hype preceding him, and new security changes that will necessarily be put in place. Maybe being the dad of three boys will go as far to equip him for the occasion as his past club experiences
!
i know diane, i think his being a dad would surely help a lot with the transition
about Iker, I think Beckham got his respect when in the first season, both of them stayed after practice to worked on Beckham's free kicks. and Raul's hesistant acceptance of him is well known in Madrid so I'm not suprise about the comments made on 'some Spanish players being jealous of him. In LA I think that as long as the manager speaks to the players first before the media then they'll be okay.Marie
and the younger players like higuain seems to be really keen on him
Marie
sorry for the multiple posts
and i guess david was welcoming to the new foreign players because he did not want them to feel the way he did when he first came to Madrid. He and Roberto Carlos seem to be the warm ones in the team

Hi Anna,Thanks for the videos, they were lovely. I was wondering Anna, do you know more about the presentation of Beckham to the LA Galaxy? Are they going to let fans see him on the field at the Home Depot Stadium because I am planning to go and I am trying to figure out the situation of how they are going to present him to the public, is it going to be public or is it going to be just for the media. I have gone to the website of the LA Galaxy and other places to find out and I have not received an answer, I hope you can help me out or give me any extra information. thanks, you have the best site.
Syd, you are right about Perez's protection of Becks, and also about Revista. I enjoy Balaque's reporting and his Sky Sports column tremendously. I hadn't realized at first that he was the author of a great bio of Rafael Benitez that I read last summer! (Sorry to mention Rafa here, ManU fans, I love good bios). Beckham has certainly had to let a lot roll off his back — pure class as so many have said. On the one hand he's always been tougher than many people think (his character didn't suddenly form in 1998), practicing with his dad's team when he was little even for his age, enjoying and then surviving tough love Sir Alex style, weathering the public scrutiny, and being blessed with a great sense of humor. On the other hand, we know things hurt. I hope that he is as able as he says to put the past behind him — some people really don't look back. Marie, Becks is so great with the young players. There were so many lovely stories from the England squad over the years, and it was very obvious at RM. It was one more thing that was a pleasure to watch, great for the kids, and no little contribution to their success this season! (The welcome certainly had to have meant a lot to Higuain and Gago when they arrived in the midst of all the club insanity this winter).
I'm sorry that I could not watch the clips, there are just blanks while opening the website.Could anyone tell me what's wrong with my laptop? Thanks!
i agree syd, whether Becks relationship with the Spanish players was friendly all that matters was he had their respect. about Raul, I think he was called Rasputin at one point by the Spanish media when pertaining to his influence in the club. what i admire about beckham is that he always praise his spanish team mates and when Iker was negative about him, beckham praise iker as being the best goal keeper in the world.but lest we forget, most of the instability of real madrid comes not from the players themselves but to the ever revolving door of president, managers and coaches. I agree diane, I have always been a fan of Balaque's reporting, i believe him to be credible.sorry anna, we seem to get carried away with our long posts
Marie
Hi anonymous who couldn't see the clips if you just saw blanks you may have come on the site when dailymotion was down – I use an external service – daily motion – to host the clips there server does go down from time to time and when that happens all you would see would be white spaces where the clips should load, sry when they have an outage its usually short-lived.To the anonymous who asked about the presentation I'd suggest ringing the club. From what has been written it sounds like he will be on the pitch but a phone call should mean you get to talk to a person who will hopefully have some idea of the days agenda and who can confirm if he will participate in training, it's always nice to feel like you spoke to someone at the club in this sort of situation so you are confident it won't be a wasted trip!
Thanks a lot for your comments!!!!
Thanks Anna!
