David Beckham's 1st Practice
David Beckham attended his first LA Galaxy soccer practice this afternoon. First of the photos are in the LA Galaxy Gallery.
There are also photos of Becks grabbing a coffee on the way to training here.
Becks was unable to participate fully in today's training session and trained apart from the team for the most of the session because he is still recovering from the ankle injury he sustained when playing for England and aggravated during his final match with Real Madrid.
Frank Yallop, LA Galaxy coach, said "his ankle is quite swollen" and they will be monitoring his progress day to day to see if he can take some part in his scheduled debut for the LA Galaxy against Chelsea this coming weekend.
David Beckham didn't speak with the press after practice but some of his new team-mates did. LA Galaxy captain, Landon Donovan said "He's a great guy. I've heard that from people and now I can confirm it."
"He's used to this kind of hoopla and attention, but we're not," goaltender Joe Cannon said. "But he's been a gentleman, a good guy in the locker room." You can read more quotes and the full story here.

the american beckham watch, has truly reach full force, with injury updates and all, just like in England and in Spain whenever he was injured and everyone holds their breath on when he would be back.

Oh dear I am sorry his ankle is still swollen I hope this isn't going to put extra pressure on him. I know his debut with all this hype would be tough no matter what and now I can't help but worry that this situation just makes everything worse if he plays badly people will go on ... if he doesn't play people will go on I hope everything will be ok for him. Why did they put all this stuff about July 21 out they knew he was badly injured on June 17 couldn't they have circumvented things turning out this way now?

Julie, look on the bright side lass if his debut is 10 mins in the second half then it's over and done with it and perhaps diffuses the ticking hype-bomb the lad is stuck with.

Hello to all. A lot important is the attention of the average, because this curiosity makes that the Americans begin to familiarize with this wonderful Sport. We believe that it is before the time that the average is interested to a soccer player. In Italy they will transmit some games of the GALAXY (pechè only plays he and this is a satisfaction for David its will not have to be jealous but recognizing because also their names will be known in world-wide soccer.) Do not know if in Italy will transmit the special of Victoria hope however that it is a Special very made, because unfortunately all what ago Victoria comes examined with badness and this can make also David badly. (Force Victoria and David!) Loredana, Samuele, Gabriel. Sorry if we have written a lot.

Marie - that would make sense if the match were not a meaningless friendly to be fair in Sapin and England there weren't too many sharp intakes of breath over exhibition matches. This is a case of PR and marketing duking it out with player welfare and to be honest I hope the money interests don't win but I wouldn't like to call it

Love the Away Shirt - I guess the 1st "promo" shots will appear only some days in advance when Becks will wear that shirt for the 1st time in a game.

Yes I know but it was his first "official" practice with photos - after all if a tree falls in the forest and no one sees or hears it did it happen :) If you want to be really technical you could say he hasn't actually had a full training session as yet - as hes still nursing his ankle. Anyway I'm not sure that the get together on the Sunday involved a lot of training for Becks - I think it was a chance to meet the guys again and to have some physio etc :)

Duyen Vo there is one color that Becks can't wear and that's purple! LOL But he can wear everything else and I agree he looks very cute in yellow :-)

Don't get me wrong I feel very sorry for people who have tickets and who may be disappointed just as I did for the thousands of Becks fans who had bought tickets for the Manchester United vs UEFA XI match in March that Becks couldn't play in because of injury.
Still, I do think that talk of "doing everything possible to see that he plays" is questionable as it is a friendly not a qualifier or a competitive game at the sharp end of the season and the MLS has already skewed the fixture list to make the remainder of the season pretty intense so I do hope that the need to appease ESPN and the paying public won't lead them to play him before he is 100% ready in what is essentially - for Chelsea - a training match.
