Becks back with England
Update - You can watch a video of England training online here.

David Beckham, fresh from being a big hit in the big apple is back in the UK to link up with the England national team today.
Update - An open training session was held at the Arsenal training grounds in North London, London Colney, today. According to reports, Becks showed little sign of jetlag as he joined in training. He delighted several fans who had won a competition to attend the open session and also took some time out to chat with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, details here. Photos in the gallery.
Although Becks ankle has swollen up since Saturday's game in NY, he is still hopeful of featuring on Wednesday according to The BBC.
Steve Davis, an ESPN columnist, wrote a really nice piece on Saturday night's game in New York and on David Beckham's effect on MLS if you haven't seen it read it here.
Martin Rogers, one of my other favorite sports writers, has written a good article on the MLS's 'unfriendly' schedule that makes some good points about the problems presented by the fact that MLS ignores the FIFA calendar in it's planning. As David Beckham attempts the superman-like feat of playing two games in the space of 28 hours it would seem to me that the time has come for MLS to start making some allowances for international fixtures.
Finally TMZ have a cute video of Becks at Friday's soccer clinic in Harlem giving his own shoes to a fan.

Hello to all! Finally someone points out the errors of the MSL. In fact if soccer American wants to progress it must be put in rule with calendar FIFA. Also this is “EFFECT BECKHAM”. In fact humanly it is impossible to face contests at a distance of some hour (you can resist rhythm 1 or 2 game, but you cannot always give the maximum, also wanting). We hope to see in field David, (in Italy will transmit the game), naturally only if its ankle not to take the risk of to worsen. Thanks Anna for the news. Loredana, Samuele ,Gabriel

hey luck Julie!
Hi Loredana, Gabriel and Samuele - it's very strange that they don't have breaks in the schedule for the international games as it's not like this only effects Becks as the US team is paying in Sweden and there are two of the US team players who are due to play in the same match Thursday as Becks - I really hope they fix it, it would be quite tough to do the travel as it is but the scheduling conflict just makes the whole situation almost impossible.

i hope it was a great trip julie. let us know if you were sucessful in your autograph hunt.
yeah, i hope the scheduling conflicts are fixed too. as much as they say they want to celebrate mls players playing internationally, they sure have made it difficult with the schedule.
it's GREAT to see him training with the englad squad. he really never stops.

Diane, you are not the only one with irrational thoughts, I thought the same thing, that Beckham would get a better treatment from the FA doctors :), and Ana, Martin Rogers has fast becoming one of my favorite sports writers too. Yallop and Lalas are still not on my good side, I know, club managers and country coaches always clash when it comes to international fixtures, but this time base on the articles Yallop and Lalas seem to put the choice all in Beckham and not the England's coach. And they need to be firm on Beckham's playing time especially with his injuries, even if he gets mad at them, he'll understand (Beckham always believe in what the manager says, goes)--if they really want the MLS to succeed, they need to adhere to the rules and customs of international football---sorry for the long rant...but the MLS schedule and management is just giving me a head ache.

I hear you Marie :) I was encouraged to see Becks having what looked like a heart to heart with Arsene Wenger. I have a huge amount of respect for Wenger as a Manager and let's hope he is giving Becks some good advice :)

I'm just wondering am i the only one who's having trouble with the site? It's really slow, especially the gallery... So are you doing something (updating....) or something like that that makes the site slow, or is it just me? Thanks!

It makes tenderness to see Wenger with David seems that it gives paternal councils. We admire he and some times we follow the Arsenal (Samuele and Gabriel follows with passion the football English) Partially comprises the opinion of Sir Robson, but knowing the stubborn and proud character of David we are convinced that it will make all the possible for being physically okay every time that England will have need of he, because it is a serious professional and above all he wants to give the maximum for its country. Ciao Loredana Samuele Gabriel.

WEll I didn't get an autograph but I did get to see him he didn't train with the team he had a reduced session and just did some jogging so his ankle must be preventing him from cutting so he didn't scrimmage but he looked really happy and talked mostly to Michael Owen and to Phil Neville before he went over and had a good old chin wag with Arsene Wenger. I'm really really glad I went :-)
