Becks in the big apple
Update - Photos of David Beckham at a youth soccer clinic held in Harlem today and training in Montclair are in the gallery. A short clip of Becks from the clinic is online here.
You can also watch his New York Press Conference online here.

David Beckham and the LA Galaxy flew to New York Thursday ahead of their Saturday night match against the NY Red Bulls at Giants stadium.
Today, Becks is scheduled to take part in an afternoon youth soccer clinic in Harlem, along with Galaxy teammate Ty Harden and New York Red Bull forwards Juan Pablo Angel and Jozy Altidore, after which he will speak at a news conference in Manhattan, details here.
Becks schedule over the next few days is enough to make you wish that the Star Trek transporter was real and that Scottie could beam him to the UK and then beam him back to LA! Becks outlined his schedule to reporters saying, "Obviously it's going to be difficult travel-wise. I go straight from New York, if my ankle is fine and I have played some minutes in New York, leaving Saturday night or Sunday and meet up with the (England) team on Monday. We play Wednesday and then I fly back (to Los Angeles) Thursday morning. I think I arrive at 12 o'clock and we've got a game that evening so hopefully I will be physically ready to play some part in that game as well. Hopefully it will all be good" We hope so too! You can read more details of David Beckham's itinerary online here.
Steve McClaren will name his England squad later today. He had already advised that if David Beckham came through Wednesday night's Super Liga semi-final none the worse for wear he would be included. Update - Becks has been confirmed as in the squad for the friendly against Germany, squad list here.
There was a touching story in last night's LA Times about a generous gesture from Becks to brighten the day of an ill fan who was kindly invited to Wednesday's game by LA Galaxy team-mate Alan Gordon. Let's wish her all the best for her treatment, story here.
There are a few more photos of David Beckham's family celebrating his first Galaxy goal in the gallery. As well as a good write up of the game including quotes from David beckham's new team-mate Abel Xavier, online here.

Hi I don't know which stores will have it but I think the ones you named are very likely too and amazon.co.uk does :)
5:42 AM
oh, so it's only compatible with european dvd players?
5:49 AM
hi tanique - the company who are providing the DVD's said the DVD's for the give away are region free and they will mail them to the winner regardless of location so it should all be fine :)
6:08 AM
oh the dvd is coming out in the US too but not until November but it is open for pre-order on amazon.com too btw
6:10 AM
thanks a lot for that info, anna. glad it will be available here too.
6:18 AM
tanique, you can google up sites that explain how to set any US dvd player (and mine wasn't very new) to "region free" so that you can watch all dvds. It's hidden in each dvd player's menu and for obvious reasons they don't include how to get there in the official instructions. You'll just need your brand and model number to get the correct ones for your player. I'll try to remember what the sites are called--I think I searched under "unlock dvd player."

i'm real happy to see him back in the England squad I just wish he didn't have 2 games so close... hes still coming back from injury thats a pretty tough schedule to keep... still he wouldn't want to miss out on cap 97! :-)
8:38 AM
thanks diane. mine might be a little more tricky since it's a tivo/dvd player/burner. but if you remember the sites that would be great. thanks. i do hate that they make it so difficult to use different regions dvd's. thanks again.
i just read the england squad and smiled through the names. our boy made the squad. woo hoo. no shock there. but it's always nice to hear the official word. fingers crossed they all perform well next week.

There better be alot of physios on the side lines! That's a heck of a wobbly group. Gerrard actually has a fracture doesn't he? I'm definitely going to have to send my most healing wishes next week.
Tanique, http://www.dvdexploder.com/ seems to cover quite a bit, if you keep clicking the arrow to the next page they list things I didn't even know were locked! Good luck.

I know diane, i agree there should be a lot of trainers, and Mclaren does not only have injured players but also players who refused to play for England---this latter reason made me appreciate Beckham more for his passion to play for his country, though I understand the players who refused because of their club duties and for the longevity of their career but its nice to see the players who pledged their commitment for the love the game.

We'll worry them through it Marie!
The Harlem clinic pictures are beyond cute, no need to force those smiles for the cameras! He has so much fun with kids. Hope he had enough space from press for it to be a nice NYC welcome!
1:26 PM
I think a number of the players being called up won't actually play. They are super cute pics aren't they lol it looks like one of the kids had him autograph some money lol
1:34 PM
thanks for the link diane. i'll certainly check it out. "david beckham in harlem" is not a headline i ever imagined seeing. LOVE the pics. thanks for getting them up anna. he looks like he had a great time.
5:28 PM
Awww he looks like hes having so much fun with the kids! Love him to bits!! =)
5:31 PM
I think Becks will have fun with his schedule.
He loves playing for England and if England wins, there'll be enough happiness for him to help Los Angeles Galaxy.
Go Becks...go!!!
11:07 PM
he is really in his element with the kids, because he's like a big kid around them, and they seem to gravitate towards him :)
