Captain Beckham starts and scores

David Beckham celebrates his first LA Galaxy goalDavid Beckham had his first LA Galaxy start, his first LA Galaxy goal and his first LA Galaxy assist tonight! He donned the captains armband and led out the team for a 2-0 victory over DC United that takes the LA Galaxy into the Super Liga final against mexican side Pachuca, scheduled for August 29. Although clearly still carrying an ankle injury David beckham played a brilliant 60 minutes scoring a goal from a superb free kick in the 27th minute and placing a perfectly weighted pass at the feet of Landon Donovan who scored the second goal of the night. Becks received a standing ovation as he left the field and was deservedly awarded man of the match! The first of the photos are in the gallery The official match report is online here. You can see Becks goal and assist on ESPN

damn ben. 4 am, is dedication. he certainly was the game, for me. it's always a great thing to see him doing the things we know he is capable of. i can't wait until he's performing at full strength.

i agree, he lead by example, and it's the best way to do it. i hope it rubs off.

I didn't watch it because of the time difference but when I read what happened and saw the photos of him celebrating I almost cried! I'm so happy for him! You can always tell how much pressure he has been feeling by how much he sticks his tongue out when he scores... honest :-) so he had been feeling it and that goal meant a lot to him and to me!

Wow!!!!!!!! SO much fun! Couldn't believe these were the same two teams we saw last week!!!

Happiest I'll ever be to take back every word I've said: about Landon Donovan, serves me right for listening to disgruntled fan gossip!!! Handing over the arm band...generous, classy, and for so many good reasons, not just a gesture. Glad it came from him. He was right it did allow Becks to give the direction he might not have otherwise, and boy did they benefit! Was it just for last night?

Brilliant first match back all around for Becks...and the best is yet to come once ankle is strong and the team is practicing together. The boys did well to get at the other end of his passes (even when nothing came of it) without benefit of much practice time. And they didn't fall apart when he came off (a little worry there). In one start he managed to wake and jell the team. Best luck to them keeping the confidence up.

Hope for good news about ankle response today. Many, many crossed fingers. (Thanks little Angel and cheerleaders, good work girls!!!)

I'd really love if someone could find the whole match, or at least the first half, to download.

I searched, but couldn't find. :-(
