David Beckham hopes to play
Update - Listen to David Beckham talking to the media at training today.

(Source) David Beckham attended training this morning and told reporters "I trained today and I'm still uncomfortable but, hopefully, I'll be ready to play tomorrow... It's definitely feeling stronger, but it's taking time. I've had quite a few matches in a short space of time. It's not really given the necessary time to recover. If I had six weeks rest, then it would clear up completely but that's not possible."
When asked if he aggravated his ankle injury last week, he said, "Possibly. But at the moment I aggravate it every time I play. It's one of those injuries where you can either be out and rest for a month or six weeks, or you just play through it."
One reporter asked, 'with games every 3 days or so, do you pick and choose what games to sit out because you're going to be be hard pressed'? Becks replied, "I don't pick and choose you know I think that's down obviously to the Manager to look at me and to talk to me and to just decide if I can play in those games. If I can play in those games, then I'll play. If it's going to make the injury worse or put me out for another two months then I wouldn't put myself in that position."
Coach Yallop told reporters, "We'll see how they get through today but I expect both [Beckham and Donovan] to play." Full story online here.
(Source) It was also Israel "Izzy" Sesay, the 16-year-old forward from Sierra Leone, first session with his new team and he was welcomed by Becks. That alone was enough to have the teenager beaming from ear to ear. Izzy said, "Oh, man, he's been great so far. He's really a nice guy. I went in the locker room and we just talked and stuff. He said welcome to the team and don't be shy and all that. It was good."

Thanks for the news I hope he can play too

I don't think he should be playing but by the sounds of things hes going too. I guess I should be pleased hes taken a few days off and at least tomorrow he won't be coming off a trans-atlantic flight.
It would be wishful thinking to hope that he'll only play half a game or something remotely sensible. sheesh.

he needs to rest. he needs to just sit it out. perhaps i'm missing the life or death situation of him having to play these games.
"it's not possible" is what stood out. why isn't it? it's all up for interpretation, but that sounded like him being pressured, to me. that is how it immediately read to me. i see how it wouldnt be possible for a club who is still trying to salvage their season.
this really is just a sucky situation. so, as usual, if he plays fingers crossed he does minimal damage to the ankle. but, my fingers are really crossed for him to not play.

One sad aspect is if he hadn't played at all since June 17 he'd have probably been fully healed by now. If he hadn't played aginst Chelsea and DC etc and if they hadn't had him fly to present a cup in Colorado and go to all those games to sit on the bench. If everyone had had some common sense from the get go he might well be 100% now. *sigh*

i second your sigh. they are now just compounding the problem. that is my thing.
so they admit the mistakes early on, but don't learn from them? that is what frustrates me. that is why i don't believe a word they say. it seems to me, if playing him early on hurt him, they'd have the guts to sit him now until he is well.
they basically say whatever they need to say, on any given day, to try to cover their asses. no matter how much it spews of hypocrisy and contradictions.
they are still talking a lot, but not saying a thing.

Anyone close to Beckham reading this, tell him no to play!
3:51 PM
I was wondering if the link for a live feed of the game tomorrow will be posted like last time with the Chivas game?
Thanks
George

Add my sigh too...everything I see makes me wonder whether this is a professional set-up. The coach just throws up his hands about the injury and the lack of conditioning and does nothing to address either? Even if they didn't rehab the injury, why hasn't there been cardio conditioning in a therapy-pool or with physios? It is all beyond me. It's not as if there's a lack of knowledge in the U.S. regarding how to treat sports injuries -- we just saw one of the Chelsea players working out in a pool that they first saw when on a road trip here...I'm confounded once again.

Hi George,
Yes I will put up a link - also I can tell you it will be streamed live and free on mlsnet.com :)

Ciao to all! Anne is in agreement on all. Also we to hope he it can play, but if he to be forced, we augur to make a large one match because the fans to expect above all so much from he and that its ankle not to endure other damages., we did not think that Lalas & company to manage therefore negatively David.Ronaldo to the Milan will play only when she will be to the 100 for the 100 nevertheless also fans they want to see he to play, but the Milan has said: it will only play when it is in perfect health. Milan team much serious one (to think that before Ronaldo they had gone directly to house of David
but it to the last one has decided for the Galaxy, hopes however that in future the team to take intelligent decisions in order of David & company) sorry for the express thought but to have great anger in the comparisons of the Galaxy well. Force David because also England has need of your intelligent and effective game. Fingers crossed for all! Loredana, Samuele, Gabriel.

Thanks Anna for the sound clip. I'm going to keep me word and not sound off on this topic anymore but I'm with Mitch.
12:31 AM
Thanks for the audio. When I read the quotes I felt terrible but listening to David cheered me up a little at least he does think hes getting better. I'll say a prayer for him.

hey thought you'd be intrested to know that they said on Fox Football Fone-In that there was supposedly a pow wow after practice (or training if you prefer) and Yallop is out

That boy is truly the eternal optimist! His outlook regarding the team is what makes him who he is and makes him an invaluable captain whether he is able to take to the pitch or not...that lesson would be gift enough to any group, especially a young one. (But the reporters might at least suspect by now that he won't consider the worst possibilities about his injury...in other words they're CLEARLY asking the wrong person ;-) ! )
An incredible attitude that's gotten him through so much -- positive even in the face of what seem to be insurmountable odds. If they do prove to be insurmountable there's the success of having given your all (not a great comfort but clearly keeps one going). So, once he's decided to get on with it, he'll get on with it to the extent he's allowed -- which as we've all said is the trick here of course.
SYD -- depending on how things go, I hope you're working up a head of steam in case you have to help represent us with a true sounding!
4:58 AM
I know the reporters are certainly asking the wrong person, everyone knows that you don't ask the athlete if he could play because the athlete would want to play no matter what; that's why in the European league, its always the manager who gets ask this question; I think, Beckham is subtly telling his manager to make a firm decision regarding his playing time. I keep coming back to the European League injuries where Benitez would not allow Gerrard and Jamie to play until they are fit.

Hi - thanks for letting us know about the comments on Fox football fone-in I saw a discussion about it but it's just more speculation at this stage. Personally I think they really need to fire Lalas as much if not more but that's just my opinion.
5:53 AM
syd, i tried to be like you. but damn, if i can't bit my tongue as well as you.
i got that too marie, it sounds like him subtly telling the manager to man up. he really does continue to impress with his optomism and professionalism. i actually had to laugh at how he wouldn't even say the 2 games last week, could have hurt him.
it was good to hear him, but i my opinion hasn't changed. thanks for the audio anna.
6:50 AM
He's said the same thing about it being the manager's decision every time they ask him -- after the Chelsea match he sounded either shocked or annoyed that the question was asked...I guess he's stopped being surprised.
I agree, the message couldn't be clearer. But his club's management has proved to be both dim and dangerous. And they are still making it appear that the decision is all his. I'm done caring about that bit though, I'm just hoping for a safe return tonight!!!
