Becks travelling to Toronto

Beccks laughs with the team

(Source) As expected, David Beckham will travel to Toronto with the team tomorrow, ahead of Sunday's MLS game. However, Frank Yallop said "The chances are probably slim [that Beckham will play on Sunday... It'd be tough to put him in the lineup with what he's been doing. He may have some part in the game, but we'll see."

As his new teammates train, David Beckham engages in rehabilitation that includes cardiovascular work, tissue manipulation and friction massage to break up scar tissue. "He's very frustrated," Yallop said. "I feel for him, really, because he wants to get going. He can't wait to get on the field with these guys because he wants to prove to them why we brought him over... Once you get to know David, he's a very humble person... He's very much for the team, that's all he talks about. I think that's important for these guys, his teammates, to know. He's not all about himself at all."

LA Galaxy team-mate Harmes said he is impressed with "just the way he handles himself with anybody... whether it's somebody asking for a picture, he's always smiling, he always says hello, he's always saying thank you... With how much he's in the spotlight, he lives up to it."

Galaxy defender Ante Jazic said, "He's just a simple guy. He loves his family, he talks all about his family. In the locker room, he's adapted extremely well. He talks to everybody."

It's nice to see that he and his team-mates have clicked so well! Hopefully that makes this frustrating time a little easier. You can also read a report on Becks injury status on the LA Galaxy site.

TV Coverage - The Toronto FC v LA Galaxy game with be televised on The CBC in Canada, UKTV in the UK, Fox Sports Net locally in Los Angeles and ESPN2 nationwide in the US (excluding Los Angeles). Check your local listings for details.

Super Liga News

The LA Galaxy will play DC United at home on August 15 in the semi-final of the Super Liga. The match will be streamed live via the Super Liga 2007 site in both english and spanish, thanks to Ben for the info. LA Galaxy are also playing a regular MLS game away to DC United on August 9th so that will be an interesting match to watch ahead of the semi-final.

David Beckham's Soccer USA 2

Very cool the Soccer USA show. For the ones that don't have so much info about MLS, like me, it is VERY GOOD.
I wish I could find good quality torrents of it. :-(

And nice comments from Becks' new team-mates. It must be really frustating not being able to play while everyone waits to see him playing. Get well soon Becks.

CIAO TO ALL! We are happy for feeling the praises of its companions and of Yallop, partially moral its will raise. The Americans (naturally those that have insulted David) must learn the sport culture and to have patience, because him to suffer more than all they. United in the hope and the prayers. That's right David will be finding the situation much more difficult then a few impatient spectators. It's nice to hear what Yallop and some of the players said. Very nice!

Oh and I must stick up for Tim Lovejoy hes not so bad :-)

Hi All. I'm back from 3 weeks with no internet just in time to sign on with a Syd comment once more! I hope Yallop sticks to his guns.
One more note, I don't care what the "injury studies" say, there aren't many players crazy about artificial turf (upcoming pitch)...it's certainly not a good surface for the first run out after an injury. Seems like Toronto aready has lots of real football fans though, so I'm hoping a bit more common sense prevails there if Becks doesn't play.
Thanks so much Anna, and now Tanique, Ben and Duyen Vo, for making it possible for me to catch up on everything!! Looks like its been a HUGE job and the site is great. Now I'm back to wishing all goes well for Becks, his fam, and his new team...

i love tim. it's always nice to hear what the team is saying. but i don't get why they are going to fly him to toronto to not play, when flying was a big part of the delay of his recovery.

i'm just not getting this

Greetings from the UK! We're following Becks' progress closely over here - but not as closely as this Toronto Sun journalist - http://www.chickendinner.co.uk/spoiler/3443/deranged_journalist_goes_beckham_bonkers.html
scary stuff I'm sure you'll agree!

I did, thank you, and tried hard not to appear too eager for the English press when we could get it in the morning, or international news if English language TV was available!!! I'm sure no one suspected a thing about my subtle quest for info ;-) ... many thanks again for having it all here tied in ribbon on my return, REALLY really great job ...

Hi Siniestro I've had a look for torrents but nothing so far I'm just glad kinsellagem puts the UK one online as I have found it quite good because I know next to nothing about MLS and the UK one is a kind of "dummies guide to the MLS" lol

Tanique - I think the reason Becks is going is because it's a 10 day road trip and perhaps Yallop is hoping that he will be able to begin training with the team during that time? They play Toronto on the 5th, DC United on the 9th and then the New England Revolution on the 12th (I think) before returning to LA. I am concerned about the flying thing too but now he is finally at the stage where he can run on it perhaps they have decided they need to test how plane-proof he is. If the friction massage has gotten rid of most of the build-up maybe they think he should travel ok now?

or (cynicism creeping in) maybe ESPN are calling the shots again... I hope not. I hope he doesn't play Saturday. He hasn't trained with the team at all and until we see him able to play with some intensity on the pratice pitch then I think putting him on the park for brief cameos is sacrificing long term common sense to short-term commercial pressures.

amen to that Anna. I wonder why the Galaxy don't just come out and say the lads out 2 weeks or even 3 then if hes ready sooner great but this constant... possibly but probably not... but it's not definite... we'll decide tomorrow... oh we'll have another look in an hour... approach is chinese water torture.
