Get well soon Becks!

Update - Thanks to the fan who shared this link to a radio interview David Beckham gave today. Thanks!

Bandaged BecksThere are pictures of David Beckham out shopping for sunglasses with his right knee brace on and his left ankle bandaged yesterday in the gallery. Thanks to Tanique33.

The Guardian have a preview of an interview with David Beckham that will appear in this Sunday's Observer Sports Monthly, you can read it here.

As posted yesterday, the results of David Beckham's MRI showed he had sprained his medial collateral ligament. This injury requires approximately six weeks recovery according to media reports. However, Becks said in a radio interview that medical staff had told him 8-10 weeks. The team announced that Becks rehabilitation would begin immediately, there are more details here.

David Beckham said on his official website:-

"I'm incredibly disappointed to be injured again so soon after returning to play for the Galaxy. It's been a year of amazing highs and frustrating lows but I'm hopeful I can still play a part this season. When I had a similar injury at Madrid earlier in the year, I was fortunate enough to come back and help the team win La Liga and then get back into the England squad, so I'm staying very optimistic"

Becks will be very disappointed to miss the September Euro 2008 qualifiers. The October qualifiers are scheduled for October 13 against Estonia and October 17 against Russia. The MLS regular season ends on October 21st, LA Galaxy's last three matches will be October 13 against Toronto, October 18 against New York and October 21 against Chicago. David Beckham may return for one or more of these matches but it will depend on his recovery. I know we all wish him the best with his recuperation and look forward to seeing him play when he is fully fit.

The friendly match in Vancouver scheduled for October 3rd will be postponed for any fans with tickets there are details here.

P.S You can see a tiny clip from Wednesday night's post-game presser at Skysports You can also listen to the audio.

Seeing those two braces on Becks breaks my heart and makes me see red, but I am glad to see him out. It's hard enough to avoid getting depressed when injured as it is, and sitting around the house is the worst thing for that. Thankfully he's got the boys there, and I'm hoping he can sneak off to the academy between rehab sessions -- good therapy itself.

: ( and I going to have to try harder to follow the optimism example!

BTW, thanks for the Jeff Carlisle article, Anna. The more the media get it right re Beckham's handling by the "LA brass", the happier I'll be, so this is a start...and maybe a good time for me to resist reading anything else ;-) !

it is great to see him being so optimistic. i think it will serve him well in his recovery.

diane, i agree there is a bit of solace in seeing the media come around a bit. i've seen many more tolerable articles in the last couple of weeks.

why does a team that can't stop bitching about its schedule have friendlies during the regular season?? What's that Mr Lalas? Sorry I must have missed that gun pointed at your head!

Oops, I'm back from the rest of the internet and not going again!!! I'm afraid of spending my days in virtual (and furious on my part) debates with some Galaxy fans, bloggers, and local journalists who have lost the plot.

Must remain amidst level heads...maybe sad and angry, but level still ;-) !

oh diane you were supposed to ease back in, not jump in. lol.

anna, always posts the more objective articles, you to preserve your sanity, just read the ones here. lol. personally, i'm finding espn doing a better job, the la times have had good ones too. i find myself going straight to those sites for articles. goal.com has some too sometimes.

i know most stuff is fluff, and right now there is the whole question of "is he worth it" so, i'm staying away from those.

Thanks tanique, I'm trying to figure out how to set my internet so that I can only come here, the bookstore and my bank, ok and the kids school sites ...but that's it! Don't know why anything can still be painful to read after all these years, maybe its the brace on each leg.

Anyway, I'm more appreciative of all the work you guys do than ever. Many thanks, Anna, tanique and everyone else who pitches in.

sigh, now Lampard is injured...england has no midfield literally, their list of injuries is enough to build a whole starting team. Beckham get well, and rest, I had the feeling that he would be out for 6 weeks, like it was before.

David called into a LA radio station today and gave a little update about the injury and his life in LA. It's a cute interview. Check it out:

Thanks VERY MUCH for LA Radio interview. I'm downloading it. :D

Have a good recovery and get well soon Becks.
I know it's tough, very tough actually, but it was kind of necessary. :-(
Now, no one will 'use' you and you will have the necessary time to recover.

For the person who asked about the friendly game scheduled for Oct 10 as part of the Copa Minnesota - it looks as if it will be postponed too

Love the interview. So cute. He's very funny about Seacrest's crush on Victoria.

Did you notice that Becks said 8-10 weeks but he hopes it will be 4-6 if he works hard enough. Of course the only thing quoted by the Galaxy is the 4-6. They still haven't learned...

Still very happy to hear him joking around!

Beckham's health is always my primary (and only) concern. However, for this special occasion, under such circumstances, I really wish he can make a super-speedy recovery.......It is too great a disappointment for him to miss the season and the England Qualifiers......

Bless him.......

Hi Diane,

Yeah I heard that and I updated the news post earlier to show the two different time frames. I don't know why the media is only reporting the optimstic date. I'm all for optimism but isn't it better to err on the side of caution and then say "the good news is..." instead of having to say in six weeks "the bad news is..." or heaven forbid return to a whole new round of will he or won't he play. Anyway, I just hope he takes the time and the club respects he must have the time to be 100%

I hate to say this b/c I love watching Beck's deliveries, but this injury to the knee could actually be good for both Beckham, the league and most important to his team.
It was obvious from the first second that he stepped on the pitch in uniform that the team was too reliant on his skills. Their defense was pathetic and seemed like they just expected him to win everything in the midfield. This injury forces them to either play to their potential or face getting dropped for better players later.

The injury helps Beckham by him actually getting some real rest on the ankle. This was a continual problem and was not going to heal correctly without some serious time off.

MLS is better off because they have some time now to allow this debacle to blow over and concentrate on next year when he has actually had some time to train properly with the team and do well. If the Galaxy freakishly make it to the playoffs, Beck's might get to come in and help them. Either way it is better than watching him go down in defeat with a demoralized team.
