Becks suits up in Toronto

Above is a clip from ESPN that includes film of Becks at the game.

The first pictures of David, at tonight's game, are in the gallery

David Beckham suited up in Toronto not in his kit unfortunately, as he is still recovering from an ankle injury, but literally in a suit. He looked very elegant as he cheered on his team-mates. LA Galaxy and Toronto FC played to a nil all draw to grab a point each, the match report is online here.

Frank Yallop said in his post-game interview, "He [Becks] ran a bit more today and felt a little bit looser than yesterday... I don't want to say he will be available for the game on Thursday. We'll see. He's got a couple of days until that game. We'll see how he responds after today. He's getting a bit of work and he's getting better." So it begins - a new round of "will he won't he" because the club has not been prepared to rule David Beckham out of a single game until the very last moment, since his arrival. Although they have known he had a sprained ankle with severe ligament damage requiring 6-8 weeks recovery time since July 13 if not before.

Becks going to the ballgame

According to USA Today, David Beckham and some of his Galaxy teammates will attend Monday afternoon's baseball game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees. Yallop, born in Canada, is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. You can read more, including some nice comment from Landon Donovan online here.

David Beckham on playing for England

Becks told reporters on Saturday when asked about his chance of being fit and available for England, "I have to play a few games before I even think about going home to England to play for my country... My main priority is getting fit and playing for LA Galaxy. Getting on the training pitch is my biggest goal at the moment.” With England captain John Terry unfortunately injured there is increasing talk of David Beckham's availability in the British press, however it is pointless speculating at this time, as Becks says, his first objective is to return to [pain-free, ice-free] training! Let's hope we see that soon. Source

thank you for centering those thumbnails. lol. so, the game seemed to drag on.

on a COMPLETLEY shallow note, david looked really great, and seemed to be well into the game.

Lalas did go to the booth for a chat, where you'll love to know he still had no definitive answer on his ankle, and said "i'm not a doctor". he basically said david told everyone about his injury yesterday.

he did stress, sports people get injured. he's aware of the press, and people being upset. but they won't force david to play. he'll be ready, when he's ready and injuries are part of professional sports. he said the guys are learning from him, just watching how he's handled himself throughout the situation.

that was pretty much it from lalas. still a bit of waffling with the injury, but he at least said something on david's behalf.

he didn't play last week and was in the training kit? Why is he even on the bench and not in the stand? It's all really weird.

CIAO! It does not have to be pleasant for David to assist the encounter from the park bench (also for him will be strange because in Europe a convened player cannot assist the encounter as all the other common fans but draft of an other championship). However it is close to its companions, familiarizes with they, instead we are preoccupied for the call for its country, here from we there are voices that say, even if him it recovers the MSL will prevent to it to go to play to september for its country, this for him and for its country it would be a disaster. We tighten ourselves to him with prayer and positive thoughts you because for the moment not there is other to make. Loredana Samuele.Gabriele

Well Lalas may not be a doctor but neither is David Beckham so what
makes the lad better placed to tell the press about his injury and how long it will take for him to heal up? Players are usually the worse people to talk about such things being such optimists. I think your comment Anna about the club having known what was wrong and that it was gonna take a bit of time to come right is
on the money and I'd go further than you I'd say they've known it could be a problem since June and they chose to play it down. Question is why?

The LA Galaxy team performance wasn't that good, but at least they got a point on the road and no fresh injuries.

The usually rock solid Xavier had quite some probelms with the artifical turf it seemed. Harden made up for that a bit - I think they fit together well.

Toronto made it difficult for them, parking a bus infront of their pen area and then skillfully attacking in numbers and more or less over-runnibg the Galaxy.

What I further noticed was that they tightly and often 2 on 1 marked Kelly Gray - where as they left Pete Vagenas unmarked. The later not using the freedom and losing lots of possesion.

the Toronto fans rock - as does the stadium.

Thanks for all updates :)

fingers crossed Becks will be able to play and enjoy it soon.

Have a good day
Ben

Ben I think you are talking it up big time! I watched the match and the LA Galaxy were poor. Toronto did not play that well and if the LA Galaxy could have strung a couple of passes together to gain any offensive momentum they could have taken 3 points.

The way the ball was given away was odd, almost looked afraid of it in the area at times...like you would expect from a nervous kid coming on. That is when they got someone over to their half anyway.

Agree that its outrageous for Galaxy to make Becks answer medical question. Syd, I think its so that they can put the "decision" down to David, and also so that they can keep equivocating even after he gave every detail and specifically said a week to ten days.

;-) Maybe the answer to why they've been dishonest about when they knew what is that they can't count. Every time I read something about maybe in DC Thursday night I think to myself, "what is it that they don't understand about the clearly audible words, a week to 10 days.?"

Hoping they won't run him out on the artificial turf on Thursday, but glad that at least the concept of why one would not played injured is out there.

p.s. I'm becoming fond of the Canadian press (at least compared to the dismal lot we have here)!

I'll be very sad if he can't play in the Euro qualifiers but the main thing is that he be fit and well and I can understand the pressure he is now under to play some games in the US. Poor man such a difficult position he is in no matter what happens someone will criticise him for something now :-(
