The Beckhams at Chateau Marmont

Thanks to Tanique33 there are un-tagged photos of David and Victoria Beckham driving out of the Chateau Marmont in LA where they had dinner in the gallery for anyone who didn’t spot them. You can also see a short clip at x17online. Lets all hope that Becks ankle is recovering and that he is feeling better!
Colorado Rapids 3 – 0 LA Galaxy
Sadly LA Galaxy, who were without Landon Donovan as well as Becks, recorded their 10th loss of the season this evening. They have taken 1 point from a possible 18 in the last 6 games. They are second to bottom in the standings and although they have 4 games in hand they are more than 12 points behind the last of the top 8 teams. To be honest, it will take a miracle to make the play-offs but miracles do happen! You can view the standings here and you can read the match report here.
Rumors and Speculation part 2
The Times now reports that Jurgen Klinsmann former Manager of the German national team might be in the frame to replace Frank Yallop as coach of the LA Galaxy. This rumor has been circulating on MLS related messageboards for some time. Klinsmann turned down an offer to manage the US National Team but it is believed this was because he would not have been given sufficient control and decision-making power. Again, time will only tell if there is any truth to this story.
Finally, as football/soccer fans let’s all say a prayer for or send some positive thoughts to Sevilla’s Antonio Puerta who is in the hospital after suffering from two cardiac arrests during his match today.

If they can get Klinsmann would be great for Becks to have a top notch coach

Ciao to all. Also we pray for Puerta. Today in a newspaper we have readthat there are light improvements. Klinsman? It would be fantastic. The Galaxy has still lost, hopes that they to succeed to give at least to fans the victory in the Superliga! Waiting for in the full recovery of David it does not remain that to hope that the staff of the Galaxy it takes important decisions for the good of the club. Loredana, Samuele,Gabriel

oh dear they have a lot of ground to make up and having lost so many games recently its going to be tough for them to find form. I also don't want unreasonable pressure and expectations on David. He will be able to contribute and lift the team when he is fit but it would be unfair and unrealistic to expect him to make up for bad management and for most of his team mates not being up to MLS standard. I hope the Klinsmann rumour is true as I think he could sort things out and it will take a very good manager to do it and it will take some time.Hope David is better!

I forgot to say all the best for poor Puerta and his family too

Thanks for the pics Tanique33 =)

it's VERY sad what happened to puerta. he'll certainly be in my thoughts. i can't get excited about personnel changes with the galaxy until things are official. but, i hope next year sees some new faces in the club.

I watched the Galaxy game and it was just awful. I hope David Beckham didn't watch it because he'd be really depressed if he did =(

(I will keep Puerta and his family in my thoughts. I'm glad to hear reports show improvement.) !!: A light bulb went on in my mind this morning regarding the handling of Beck's injury and playing time. We're all agreed that it should not have been his decision, and most of us have agreed that it was not. But I somehow overlooked who else has their hand on the strings. The institutions invested in Becks' success are powerful. Those that have been involved with him in the past know the kind of profits they stand to make, and the Galaxy and MLS have had a swift tutorial if they did not fully understand that potential before they signed him. There is no way that each did not dispatch their own team of "experts" to examine MRI's and meet with Becks' physicians as soon as a condition was visible…and continue to monitor it throughout. And if the Galaxy didn't have the physicians on hand, Adidas would have had a crack team there before his first ice pack melted. We all thought it absurd that McClown flew in to watch Becks' play "pub league" ball for ten minutes. The Galaxy personnel he came to establish a relationship with were surely the medical staff. Can't leave out the insurance companies, we've heard the value of Becks' personal policy, and I'm sure club, country, and each sponsor has taken out one of their own. High profile athletes are so regulated by their contracts with these interests that they have to check before they ride a bicycle. They would certainly have had their say regarding Becks' fitness to travel and play. Yallop and McClown, with Becks' input, may have made the decisions once he was dressed and on the bench, but a lot of investors were implicit in deciding that it was more important for him to be visible to their markets than for him to be rehabilitating his injury. The fact that the decisions ran contrary to their long term interests simply shows what they ignored in pursuit of short term gain, not that the information wasn't available to them or that they didn't have their say.It would be nice to think that the team he's been most involved with, England, would have the most player oriented motives, but they routinely ignore the physical condition of player in decision making. In Beckham's case, England have used him for years to polish their international image and move them into international markets (and then trashed him for being in the spotlight their P.R. department shined on him, but that's another topic) and have now done as much, through his recall, to set themselves right in the public eye as to set the team right to qualify for Euro 2008.Yallop may or may not be a decent coach, and Lalas has been on my last nerve since about the second time I heard him speak. But they were hardly alone in deciding how Beckham's injury was handled on and off the pitch. Yallop, who made poor game-time choices, will most likely to take the fall for all. But he probably the had the least overall power of the lot. No wonder he alway looks like he's being forced to swallow something distasteful.

I must say I'm hoping to see some new faces this year just because it takes time for them to settle and seeing as the Galaxy doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of making the playoffs they might as well start working on 2008

I'm a Beckham fan and a Galaxy fan. No offense but Beckham fans who think there is only one issue affecting Beckham and The Galaxy… that being his injury and it's handling… well thats not the deal. Yallop won't be taking the fall for the handling of Beckham, a substantial percentage of Galaxy fans were calling for his head before that and more are now but not because of that issue which although a big deal to Beckham fans is not such a big issue to the majority of Galaxy season ticket holders and those who regularly go to games like me. Yallop will take the fall if he is replaced for coaching a team that has won 3 games in 18 for being seen as responsible or partly responsible for a couple of our worst trades and because the team shows no fight. In reality Yallop might quit before taking the fall for anything he has made it clear he doesn't like the attention coaching Beckham brings. I think Frank will head for the shadows before too long

I doubt there's anyone who visits this site that thinks the handling of Beckham's injury is the biggest crisis facing the Galaxy. They were in crisis well before Beckham arrived. We are also aware of the issues regarding other players, including the many others injured. However, in those cases I, at least, feel thoroughly informed about their injuries, and assured that they will travel, dress, and play based on their fitness — even if limits are pushed due to the team's standing. I can hardly say the same about Beckham. Most of us are pretty serious football fans. The Galaxy's problems are pretty clear to us, and we care that they be resolved. Beckham's injury, and its treatment by all parties, is clear to no one . We are not the only fans, journalists, teammates who are interested in what the heck is going on.

I admit I'm in shock I looked at the standings … I confess I hadn't before … and yeah they really look like they won't make it they'd need to transform into a different team and like NOW to have a shot. Man what a bummer Becks has joined a team that isn't even in the top half of the table. Sheesh guess I should be happy theres no relegation.Well, they better do something and soon there is absolutely zero point bringing in Becks to a really bad team so the whole world just thinks MLS sucks and I don't know how it's going to help take soccer to the next level to have him captain a team that always loses cos most of the squad can't kick a ball without falling over themselves. Thanks for the pics Tanique33! Posh looks worried about him hope hes refueling!

You lost me a bit Diane? I thought your comment though.. I admit I found it a hard to follow… was a comment on the fact Yallop may be replaced and that you thought he was taking the fall for playing an injured Beckham Thursday night when he had played the day before and flown half way across the world. I just meant that isn't the one issue driving these rumors. I didn't say anyone wasn't a serious soccer fan and I don't see where I or anyone talks about other players injuries. I'm purely talking about Yallop and the fact that he is taking the fall for more than just that if hes replaced by Klinsi…

Sorry galaxy23, we got our antennas crossed! I think we started out on slightly different topics. While reading about Yallop's possible dismissal, I began to think about who yields the power in high revenue sports situations (never a happy topic). I went on awhile about that, which is where I might have lost anyone. But my conclusion was really that — whatever he did right or wrong in general as a coach — Yallop's side-line decisions about playing Beckham may have been a mistake, but they were no greater than those made by the powers that saw to it that Beckham was on the bench, instead of in rehab, to begin with. And that there is no way they can claim ignorance as to the extent of his injury. But they will not pay the price because they pay the bills. It does seem clear that Yallop is taking the fall for many decisions made regarding this season that could not have been his. What do you think of the possibility if Klinsmann is to be the next coach? Do Galaxy fans like him? I read somewhere that he had been involved with the Galaxy before, but not how, do you recall?Sorry again about the mixed signals.

No problem =) Still gotta disagree with you though… sorry… I don't think it's clear that Yallop is… or at least might be… taking the fall for decisions that weren't his. He's the coach. It's a fact of life if you coach a team and they are 3-10-5 your job will be on the line. Same for any coach of any professional team in the world. Yallop isn't getting an especially rough or unfair ride here. Excuses will only ever get you so far. You tell me the team that could win 3 games in 18 and not have fans asking questions of the coach? The fact the team doesn't seem to care or to have any fight in them… who should people look too on that if not the coach? It's also a known fact Frank had input into having certain players traded and bringing certain players in … the negotiating was handled badly and that was Lalas but Frank wasn't completely shut out of having any say on who was bought into and traded out of the team.I think if Yallop is dismissed it will be fair he won't be taking the fall for things that he had no power over he will be paying the price for things that he is meant to be responsible for. And maybe big money and Adidas and whoever had some influence over the handling of Beckham but they didn't make the call to keep him on the field 90. I mean c'mon we were playing with 9 not 10 men for most of the second half he needed not to be there for him and for the team. The playing of Xavier in mid-field was absurd. Yallop is tactically inept. He regularly plays people out of position. There is plenty that Lalas has done wrong too but Yallop isn't being blamed for those things. A lot of fans want Lalas sacked too. As for Klinsmann he was a technical adviser at one point. He had a bit of input when they were building the HDC. I doubt that he will come in as coach … if hes watched the team he'll run for the hills =) Still it's a nice idea. I'd like to see it for Beckhams sake. He'd do a better job…

OK, this just proves that all of Anna's guests have to meet in a pub somewhere of a beer (or club soda, we don't discriminate) because I'm clearly not writing things clearly
!I agree with everything you just said. Don't know how I sounded like I was saying the opposite, but I often rush through comments, so I maybe I did. I really, really only intended to bring up the unseen and often forgotten parties to the power equation. I PROMISE, PROMISE, PROMISE that excusing Yallop or Lalas is the VERY last thing on my mind. (Truly). So let's let this go. You're a Galaxy fan. As a newcomer, I would be interested in what you think needs to be done to turn things around for next season.

Hi Deb,Thanks for sharing
Are you sure though? It's just I've only seen that news one place and they claim its based on an injury report from the club that came out yesterday, however usually when the club announces that Becks won't play there are dozens of headlines and I haven't seen anything from anyone other than the The Daily Breeze saying this, there are a few saying he will play, and a few saying possible and other saying probable lol I haven't updated the site because I've been holding off trying to work out what is actually known and what his status is. Like you I hope they make the right call for his long term recovery

sorry anna, maybe you are right. the la daily news is where i got the info from. ishould have waited for official conformation. hope i havent mislead anyone .maybe david is in better shape than we all suspect which wouid be fantastic news, dont like to be gloomy all the time. however cant help thinking it would be so much better to allow him to heal with timeand then as david said himself he will be fit both physically and mentally and able to give his very best.anyway hope all turns out for best for david which is only way that it will do so for club and country if that makes sense .bring back the guardian angel anna x x

Hi Deb

Hi Diane, what would I do for next season… how long have you got? Well just off the top of my head.Fire Lalas and Yallop. Replace with a single Manager who works with the Director of soccer. Too many chiefs just equals more screw ups. The Manager must be a good man manager capable of motivating a team. The new manager needs to place an emphasis on fitness, training sessions shouldn't be a light jog and a slow scrimmage. The team lacks fitness, take a team with sub-par training so they aren't as fit as they should be and then give them the schedule from hell? Disaster.Got to change the roster and sadly so many poor trades have been made its not going to be easy. Landon is grand-fathered this year but won't be next, we have no strength in depth as is so trading multiple players to a team in exchange for their DP slot so we can keep Landon is a tough call and might not be viable. So it's going to be important to see if the rules are changed and if clubs get a second DP slot. Because of the salary cap the quality of a clubs scouting program can make or break them because to be successful you need to identify up and comers who can make a contribution but fit the budget. Needless to say we've been really ppor in that area. Personally I'd cut/trade the followingEdson BuddleAlan GordonKelly GrayAnte JazicChris KleinKyle MartinoPeter Vagenasand at least because we've had another bad season we will be near the front of the queue for draft picks. I can give you more thoughts if you want them but these are just some quick thoughts…
