Chicago Fire 1 - 0 LA Galaxy

becks ready to go

Unfortunately the LA Galaxy lost the game and won't progress to the play-offs. You can read the match report here.

(Source) David Beckham spoke to reporters after the game and said, "We've had a good run, but obviously early season is what's affected us more than anything. We have to win games throughout the season instead of relying on the last five or six games to come back into it. But we've ended the season sort of on a high -- apart from this game -- and we have to be positive about next season."

Becks said he was not necessarily looking forward to having time off. "I'm a person that likes to train every day and work every day, and that's the way it's been throughout my career... For the last 15 years, I've had no longer than three weeks off in the summer. I'm not going to know what to do with myself. I'll be keeping in training and keeping fit no matter what."

Becks defended his team-mates, "To go through what the players went through when I arrived, and before I arrived, was difficult to adjust, but they showed character in the last six, seven games. No one expected us to be in this position today like we were, so it shows that we have character."

Becks also said that he would not be getting involved with any decisions on the future of the club. "If Alexi [Lalas, the president] does come to me with questions and advice with certain things, of course, I’m there and I will give it, but the decisions in the club are not down to me."

Galaxy head coach Frank Yallop said he had no regrets about starting Beckham on the substitutes' bench. "It would be tough to ask him to (play a full game) with not playing for seven weeks... Once he got into the game, he had some good long passes and his free kicks are always dangerous. A good off-season and he will be really good next season."

First of the photos of David Beckham are in the gallery. Here are some match highlights -

Poor David he'll be disappointed. He looked better today still not 100% but getting closer to fit. They need to look at signing a forward or two.

Loredana, glad your family is alright tell Gabriel we send our hugs!

Shame. The lads not quite there and its harsh as people are judging him and expecting him to perform miracles and the miracle is that hes playing as well as he is like. Think they should have had Donovan in the middle and put him on the right because hes not 100%. Agreed he put in a couple of good balls from freekicks and corners. Pavon isn't the business is he don't know whats wrong there but summat is.

I just think people, press or everyone else needs to understand that Becks is not fully fit and he cannot do miracles alone.

A great player always need a good team behind him.

Now that the season is over for them. :-(

Now, I think it´s the right time to think about the changes that need to be made to make a better team for next season.

Best Wishes for your Gabriel, Loredana.
And like you said, next season will be a positive one with Becks there since the very first day and with the necessary changes being made and with some good players coming in. Hope Becks being there will help bring some good players for the team.

Yes people should appreciate hes not 100% but that's not how it works and with no real games until April 2008 now, it's going to be 5 - 6 months of.. he was a bust and then silence. It's not right or fair GRRRR! but that's the media.

I think it's a shame they couldn't do something to improve the team for this season as Yallop got all the tactics wrong today and next season is a long way off for David. It's easy for me to be patient but it's going to be a long long wait for David as he will want to prove his critics wrong but he won't have a chance until April 2008. Bummer :-(

I'm really sorry for Becks and the LA Galaxy and even more becuz what will this mean for Becks playing for England? He is not fully fit and now there are no real games for him to prove himself before next month. I hope he will still play against Austria and Croatia? hmmm but this really doesn't help. I hope England can still make Euro 2008 poor Becks it hasn't been a good week =(

I hope they'll be a much better team next year but the mls off season is really really long so thet like really doesn't help Becks now =(

Sad they couldn't pull out a win, I hope the team makes improvements for next year. Don't they have a few exhibitions coming up?

Yes they have an exhibition match next month against the Minnesota Thunder and they are supposed to play the Vancouver Whitecaps although I'm not sure when. They also play in Sydney November 27 and Wellington on Dec 1.

Today's game was a disaster but not qualifying for EURO's would be an even bigger blow :( In all honesty Euro 08 was going to be becks last major tournament. Its almost unrealistic to think he will be around to play in WC 2010. So england not qualifying would be so terrible! especially when they were going to show the games live in the US!!! I cant help blame real madrid and mclaren for putting becks in the situation hes in right now

Crossing fingers for England. But there will be Galaxy friendlies and while I know that's hardly like playing with a routine, it's good news for the players and us fans who like to watch 'em play! (Hoping they'll be broadcast somewhere we can watch...) It seems to me that since so little of Becks was seen this summer and autumn (sadly) they'll be keen to beef up the friendly roster and raise the Galaxy profile even higher around the country/world. (It's just a shame they can't do that with this year's playoffs under their belts, but the disaster that was the planning of this season will hopefully be a lesson...I have no doubt the scheduling made it hard for injured players to get back, and injured healthy players.)

Let´s have faith. Miracles can happen, it didn´t happen with LA Galaxy, but it might happen with England.
Maybe Becks will contribute a lot to England and then they will qualify.

The bad thing is that he won´t have matches to become match fit.
Only training is not enough. :-(

But he always gives his heart out for England, specially in very important matches.
Let´s have faith.
