Chicago press conference
Here is a cute 10 minute clip from the press conference that David Beckham gave in Chicago last Saturday thanks to B96 Chicago. It’s always good to hear what he says and how he says it, as the media only include a few quotes in articles and often leave the best parts out!
Becks latest blog post
Hello everyone,
Hope you are all well?
I’ve continued to step up my match fitness over the past week and managed to come off the bench and play a part against Red Bull New York and Chicago Fire. It was a great feeling to be part of the action again.
Unfortunately, results went against us and we just missed out on a play off spot. The team had played so well over the past six or seven games, so I’m incredibly disappointed for them, but we’ll come back stronger next season I’m sure.
I’d like to wish Cobi Jones a happy retirement from playing. He’s been at the Galaxy since the club was formed and has definitely been one of its, and the MLS’s, greatest players. So, best of luck to him for the future.Speak to you soon
David
Other news
There is an article online discussing possible changes at the LA Galaxy which claims there was a “season post-mortem” meeting held Tuesday. The piece is mostly speculative and I don’t know how accurate it is…
There is a photo of Becks at a training day for winners of a Motorola contest held at the David Beckham Academy in the gallery and hopefully there will be more and/or video available later. There are also photos of Becks leaving Mastro’s Steak House last night as well as a video clip online here and a little more on his night out in The Sun

Thanks for this!

lol @ Pru
That must be it!Thanks for the clips and pictures Anna. Interesting article makes it sound like poor David is bending over backwards to try and make others happy and to make amends because hes been made to feel bad for problems that aren't his fault. It also reads as if some people who should be asking how they can do better are busy be defensive instead. But like you said it may not be accurate

has beckham eva posed nude? Cos I've seen like naked pics are they real?
(Quote)
lol No Becks has never posed nude and photos you see of him naked are photoshopped fakesTo the person who commented about the roses. Yes that is a very sweet and romantic story

What kind of a loser would you have to be to dedicate your time to photo-shopping fake nude pics of celebs. I really don't get that :-s

Some people have too much time on their hands PruJulie I agree with you about the article. I'm not unsympathetic to all the moaning and wailing about the pressure that having the lad join the team brings but I also think it's too easy for folk to use that as a convenient excuse. The pressure to perform and to win should always be there, the pressure of disappointing 10,000 people may not be the same as the pressure of disappointing 100,000 people but the 10,000 still count and some degree of pressure shouldn't be so strange. I mean when you take away the general vague references to the Beckham hoopla or distraction or whatever word is used, what are we actually talking about here? Did the players have to do more press than before? Not really, the press routine was largely unchanged except 200 would turn up instead of 10. Did it prevent practice, preparation or stop the team playing their game or using the best tactics? I mean when you break it down what exactly is being referred too? Which is why like you Julie lass, I'm not too keen to have the lad saddling himself with too much blame as I honestly believe that it's mostly a convenient excuse. The person under the most pressure was Becks himself. The lad had a thousand nay-sayers eagerly waiting to say the move was a mistake and a thousand more waiting to eagerly write him off. I can't think of anyone in the set up who would have near as much to contend with as the lad himself and note he makes no excuses.

Hey Syd I agree with ya =) I always wonder why when any team he is in isn't doing so well they talk about all the pressure and distraction that comes with David being on the team. Its been said about England RM and now the Galaxy but Becks was a huge global star when he was at Manchester United and it sure didn't stop them winning and its never stopped him bringing his A game =)

Lulu and Syd, you've hit a years long pet peeve of mine. All of these teams are happy enough to publicize and market Becks like crazy in order to "raise their profile in new markets" and make money. Every ad he does, every endorsement, every charitable association, every appearance is a free ride for them — each of their P.R. and marketing depts arrange as many as they can squeeze out of him themselves. Then they have the nerve to say oh my, my he's getting SO much media attention, it's such a "circus." They staged the bloody circus! Its nauseatingly hypocritical. Remember the whole thing, when he first joined the England NT, about how he was to improve the profile of English football around the world at a time when it had been so associated (rightly or wrongly) with violence? And now he brings too much baggage with him, Mr McDisgusting!!!? Whose baggage exactly is he carrying? The reason Becks can separate the football from the madness around him, is that he's such a supporter of the game. Aside from his own business dealings, he's happy whenever he can use his fame to promote football and/or whatever charities that helps. So the arrangement would be fair enough if the clubs weren't so disgustingly hypocritical. My current favorite little example is the hue and cry over the media stampeding the Galaxy bench to photograph Becks. Well who let them on the pitch!? I guess we should assume that in addition to all of his other tasks, Becks now issues credentials, sets up press areas, and arranges the security that's to keep them at bay. Along similar lines, whenever I read any complaints from the Galaxy brass all I can think is, well he didn't exactly move part, parcel and family to LA to break into your clubhouse for the fun of playing with a bottom of the table team did he? You invited him — following a two year courtship! GRRAs for Becks teammates, I don't think they have been complaining as much as observing, and they certainly seem to have come to care about him fast enough. On the pitch its as Syd says, the pressure to perform should come from within, but maybe what U.S. soccer needed was a little kick in the a** from fans with higher standards in order to improve the level of play. We'll see.Sorry for the eye-straining rant…
