David Beckham's got the power!
(Source) David Beckham has been named Britain’s most powerful man aged 40 or under by Arena Magazine.
When Becks was told about the list he said, "I am really honoured. To get that title for just being a footballer is quite amazing."
Arena editor Giles Hattersley said, "Beckham has topped this year's Arena Power List because he is arguably the most recognisable Brit on the planet. David is our biggest sporting export and has inspired boys of all ages to become passionate about football - and fashion. He boasts a formidable CV - on and off the pitch - and at 32, has already lived the lives of ten men."
The latest issue of Arena Magazine with Becks on the cover will hit newstands today in the UK. The Sun reports that Becks told Arena he will only return to the Premiership for his old club Man Utd, saying, "I’ve played for the best team in England and I wouldn’t want to play against it. It would hurt too much." He also talked about the responsibility of being an influential figure, saying, "Being in my position, you can really have an effect... You can really make a difference to somebody." There are more excerpts from the interview in The Mirror. Scans from the shoot by Steven Klein are in the gallery.
5th match against poverty
It is being reported, details here, that David Beckham will play in the Match against Poverty, hosted by Zidane and Ronaldo on Nov 19 in Spain. It is also expected that Roberto Carlos will play and it would be a lot of fun to see all the amigos back together again for such a worthy cause. However, England has a Euro qualifier Nov 21 which Becks will hopefully play in, so I don't know whether that will impact his availability. We should hear more closer to the time. Thanks to Lulu for the heads up. Update - Simon Oliveira, David Beckham's spokesman has said, "We haven't committed to anything at this stage. David is keen to play in Spain for charity but the game is only two days before England's match with Croatia, which would rule him out. A decision will be made nearer the time."There are a couple more very very (did I say very?) blurry pictures of the Beckhams out in their new wheels in the gallery.

That's great! Congrats to David he deserves the recognition! :-)

How humble can he get? He may be a footballer but he's not -just- a footballer...not anymore. I'm glad he's continuing to get the recognition he deserves for all his hard work on and off the pitch.
I'm running out of fingers to cross that we'll get to see these awesome matches David will be playing in, the fire one and now the poverty one!

I really like the cover... does anyone else think he looks like a much better looking Justin Timberlake...mebbe its jus moi ha!!
6:14 AM
I really admire the lads loyalty. Not many players think twice about playing against their former club and I think the fact he doesn't want to play for any other English club beside Man United says a lot about him
6:42 AM
Awesome Arena Cover.
Steven Klein really likes to take pictures of Becks. :-)
I know this match against poverty is a nice thing and stuff, but hopefully Becks will play for England and make another miracle and qualify for the Euro 2008.
10:27 AM

Siniestrototal I hope the lad will play for England too but he can't make a miracle not this time. It's out of England's hands. Whether England has a chance to qualify will be decided between Israel and Russia with nary an englishman on the pitch. Fingers crossed it goes our way.
12:49 AM
Yeah, I know Sid. But England needs to win aswell. Fingers crossed the results needed will happen.
