LA Galaxy 1 - 1 NY Red Bulls

The LA Galaxy extended their unbeaten record to seven, with tonight's game ending in a 1-1 draw. Match report here. David Beckham returned to action, although he is not yet at 100%, he came on as the Galaxy's third sub in the 68th minute of the game and received a warm welcome from the 27,000+ crowd. You can read more on his return in The LA Times and at ESPN.
Becks did not speak to the media after the game but Coach Yallop made the following comments about playing him, "It lifts everybody that he's available. He's a little bit rusty, obviously... We spoke before and he said 25 minutes was about [all] he could go, so we stuck to that plan." He added, "David's service is probably the best in the world... When you have a chance to put someone like David on, you do that."
A draw still keeps LA Galaxy's play-off hopes alive! Although now they will rely on another teams result (Colorado must lose or tie against Real Salt Lake OR Kansas City must lose to Dallas, on Saturday) as well as a win in Chicago.
It is not known whether Becks will play in Sunday's game against the Chicago Fire, a decision will be made closer to the time, details here. Update - LA Galaxy GM Alexi Lalas told Skysport, "He [Beckham] is definitely not 100% in terms of his sharpness and that comes from being off for a long time. I don't think there is a chance of him starting [against Chicago] but he could come on if necessary." He also praised Becks saying, "It's been a strange year with him coming mid-season and the injury and the way he has changed our business, the impact that he has made. He's done a great job of being so accommodating to everyone out here." Full story here.

Well they say where there is life there is hope and so theres still hope for the Gals! Kansas City have to get at least a tie at Dallas and I think tyey might come up short and if that happens then a win against Chicago will put us into the post season! Beckham didn't have the impact some people hoped but like you said people need to rethink their expectations and give the man a chance to get back in the groove

Thanks for the pictures Anna.
Poor David still isn't 100% and if he said he could only manage 25 minutes then that means he is far from fully fit. In light of that I would say that he played brilliantly.
Truthfully, if the La Galaxy make the play-offs then I'll be happy for David but if they don't make it then I will also be happy for David as perhaps they will finally stop trying to squeeze minutes out of him before he is ready.

Thanks for the video. I didn't manage to get up for the match in the end. It was toooo cold and my warm bed one out cuz I wasn't sure how long he'd play for. Glad they're still in with a chance. i'm worried about this ankle now, he may end up needing surgery do you think??

I wonder why he didn't speak to the media the only other time he declined was after the Chivas USA game. Talking to the media is 100% expected here and really a standard part of his duties, for him not to do it or the club or his handlers to decide its best he not do it, suggests somethings wrong
3:41 AM
I can understand you being worried Julie about him looking a tad gimpy but he only played just over 20 minutes and he might need to do that as part of getting back to full fitness you know. So hpefully it's all good!
4:18 AM
woooooooah he looks hotttt in them shorts *thud*
4:45 AM
so what has to happen for the Galaxy to qualify now?

Great to see Becks out on a pitch again, never loses that spark, but he definitely doesn't look right yet. Protected himself more than I've seen after coming back from injury. Also less power under strikes, which means he can't really do what he wants with them. Some may be rustiness but he usually mostly needs to get wind back after layoff. Hope they've not taken chances again, that foot must have been re-injured several times already to be a worry for this long!
Re not talking to media, he seemed quite frustrated during and after match. Mind, within two days both of his teams missed points they needed to move ahead -- England in much worse shape obviously -- two matches he would have wanted to make an impact in, so he may not even have spoken to his mum at that point ;-s .
Well done to Galaxy for hanging on, they didn't do as badly as some make out -- just keeping Angel from that 20th goal he was looking for was a task!
5:48 AM
I hope you're right Ruby :-) Perhaps I'm being a worry wort but he still seemed rather ginger and although he was out for 6 weeks when he injured his knee earlier in the week when he came back against Valancia he played a bit over 30 minutes and he seemed really fit and ready...
12:08 PM
Well Lulu, hopefully it won´t get to the point where he would need a surgery.
But that kind of injury is quite dangerous. It always will be back, if Becks starts playing before the right time.
I just don´t understand why LA Galaxy still has doubts about him playing against Chicago Fire. It looks like he shouldn´t have played yesterday game either.
Agree with you Julie. I always agree with you, hehe. :-)
Thanks for all the updates Anna.

Thanks for the pics! Love the ones from Cobi's presentation
12:40 PM
Thanks for the update :0)

For the Galaxy to qualify basically you need one of these two things to happen - Either the Rapids can't win against RSL OR Kansas City must lose to Dallas
Plus they MUST beat Chicago.
10:25 PM
gosh I shouldn't write when I'm tired lol my last comment should say earlier in the YEAR not week and I meant Valencia.
Siniestrototal maybe it's a case of great minds think a like ;-)
12:08 AM
I don't know much about the mls how likely are the rapids and kansas to lose? I hope the Galaxy make it because David needs more games to get match fit ahead of the England matches next month
Siniestrototal I really really hope his ankle isn't too bad it just seems like hes been having problems with it for a long time ya know
2:26 AM
It's actually hard to predict lulu! And I hardly have a good track record in this area - it's a good thing I'm not into sports betting I'd be broke :)
Last week the Colorado Rapids beat Chivas USA in a game I would have expected them to lose and I didn't expect the LA Galaxy to go on a 7 game unbeaten streak either so really anything could happen.
People who are more knowledgeable about all things MLS than me seem to think Kansas City losing is quite possible while the Colorado Rapids are generally expected to beat last placed RSL but upsets happen every week in MLS :)
So fingers crossed we get one of the results we need. We'll know tonight!
4:09 AM
I think the chances for the Galaxy are better then the chances for England =(
4:48 AM
Yeh. It's more likely that we'll get the result we need from the KC Wizards game against Dallas but Real Salt Lake could hold Colorado to a draw and that would be enough too. It's gonna be a nervous night
1:10 PM
Unfortunately KC won buuuut, so did RSL so the Galaxy are in if the win tomorrow WOOT!!
8:08 PM
Colorado lost 1-0 to RSL thanks to the former Galaxy player Findely
it's all down to the last game of the regular season
if Becks and co win it - they are in, otherwise it's chicago who takes the final spot in the playoffs.
