David Beckham is Askmen's number 1 man for 2007
Congrats Becks! Askmen polled their readers over the last month to determine the top 49 men of 2007. More than a million votes were cast and David Beckham was most deservedly numero uno! You can see more here.Ballon D'or nominee
David Beckham is one of the 50 nominees for the award presented to the European footballer of the year. It is an honor to be a nominee - so congratulations to Becks! You can view the full list here. The winner will be announced December 2Tom on Becks
(Source) Tom Cruise told BBC Radio Five Live during the Lions For Lambs premiere in London's Leicester Square that he has the perfect pick-me-up for Becks, "We will go out and fly some airplanes or race some cars or something like that, I'll talk to Victoria and see if she's all right with that. But we'll have some fun." Cruise said Beckham would be disappointed to be out of the play-offs. "I know what a competitor he is and I have great admiration for him as an athlete, as a father, and as a husband. The guy works so hard, I know personally how dedicated this guy is and how committed," he said. "I look forward to seeing him play for England."Pete on Becks
(Source) David Beckham's LA Galaxy team-mate Pete Vagenas has also shown Becks support. He told the media, "You can't really prepare for somebody like David coming to your team, I'd be lying to you if to say that I didn't think people struggled with it. But David is a great person, a great teammate, and that makes it easy on everybody... When he got here, he was the first one to say that he was about the soccer, you questioned it a bit maybe, but you could see it in his performance and in the way he takes care of himself, the way he trains and goes about his business. Everything else may be a distraction to him but he really doesn't show that it is."Other news
England have a friendly match against Austria scheduled for Nov 16 at Ernst Happel Stadion at 8pm and their final Euro 2008 qualifier scheduled for Nov 21 against Croatia at Wembley. The squad will be named a few days before the games and hopefully we will be able to see Becks back in an England shirt. There is an article in The Independent that discusses some of the possible scenarios for Becks training in the UK during the off-season.Martin Rogers has written a column on Becks first season in MLS. I agree with some points and disagree with others but I thought you might like to see it online here.
Also I've added a few more photos to the gallery.

I'm going to the England Croatia match at Wembley so I really hope that McClaren calls David up and I can see him play. I have a good feeling about it. I think he will play.
The friendlies against Minnesota and Vancouver may not be tough but they'll still help him with his fitness hopefully!! :-) Hope they are on the Telly though they'll probably be in the middle of the night for me
11:44 PM

I still hopes he trains at Arsenal and then in my day-dream Arsene talks him into joining the club for real and he goes back to playing in the premiership with good players and a full season for a club where the football is as important as the money.. as opposed to playing for a club where the money that can be made is far far more important than the football and his welfare as a player... oh well I can dream :-)
Good news on the Ballon D'or and Askmen things!

Should I stop worrying about the ankle? No else seems to mention it anymore, even though it was reported that he had to give it a rub at one point during just the 33 minutes he was on in the last match. I love seeing Becks whenever he is on the pitch, but he really looked strained on Sunday (before the loss).
Obviously he can't have been happy about England. And he can't be happy that his injuries aren't completely behind him. But from the look on his face, this looked like more than a little twinge or lack of match fitness. I still worry that there's more going on in that foot that they'll let on. Hopefully I just worry too much!
With two matches five days apart coming up in a couple of weeks, needing to practice before them, and travel between them...I would be happier if I didn't suspect that the injury is still real.
If it's just a matter of general fitness, he does need the matches in hopes of getting back in the England squad -- something we all wish for. But I don't want him to just keep getting worse, and being judged (by press, new fans, and England manager -- hopefully a new one!) by how he plays injured.
Tell me I needn't worry, and I'll be very happy!!

I think kaka will win the ballondor but it's nice that David is on the list
4:17 PM
I really hope we'll be able to see the matches somewhere online or telly! Since they have Becks on board, Galaxy really should create their own standalone site and offer their matches online--West Ham, for example, has a subscription service where you can watch the team's matches (delayed). I have no idea what the licensing issues are but the EPL is a pretty big time deal, so if it's possible for individual EPL teams to do it...why not an arrangement with MLS? MLS TV is great but covers so few, comparatively.

thanks for all the new info. i just read that there is a chance of him practicing with tottingham since he is thinking of going back to england with the family to live there in the winter and be with his father. dont know if it is true. if you know anything on thos can you post it

Hi Melissa :) the article I posted yesterday if you read the part under "other news" it's the article from The Independent - contains all the info that we know right now about Becks training in the UK during MLS's off-season - which is that it might happen and there are a few clubs that have been mentioned as possible places he could train. Nothing has been confirmed by any club or by Becks as yet. Becks' grandad is a Tottenham fan so he might go there but we'll have to wait and see what if anything happens with that.
Agreed Dina I wish the TV situation was a bit better. I'd happily subscribe to a good quality online service :)
Diane, I'm sorry I can't tell you not to worry. Someone commented that he looked like he still had a limp in the practice video from last week and it was very slight but I did think there were signs that the left ankle might be a really persistent and nagging injury. I think his right kneee is not troubling him at all but the ankle may still be an issue. On the bright side at the moment there are games - mostly just exhibition friendlies - until Dec 1 after that there might still be time for the ankle to receive treatment if required before the Galaxy return to pre-season training next Feb? Hopefully it's not required and the ankle is coming right.
When you think about how he looked at the end of the Chivas game. I would guess the ankle was still very damaged at that point, he couldn't even take the last corners - just like he couldn't against Zaragoza - and the time line since then is only 6-7 weeks. On the plus side no sign of ice-packs, bandages or of swelling in the photographs so maybe it is almost healed and he may just be lacking match fitness - he hasn't started a game at 100% since June 6 after all. Fingers crossed hes doing ok :)
2:29 AM
OK, fingers crossed for foot health! All we can do anyway is hope there's no further aggravation in the next flurry of friendlies -- at least there's more subbing. Nick Webster (columnist for foxsoccer.com and usually decent fellow), said last night that now the season's over he wishes he could just sit down with Becks off the record and ask what's really going on with the ankle. It was sweet, but I'm not sure it would help -- Terry Byrne used to be a physio and I'm sure (hoping?) that he and Becks would be having that conversation. Hopefully he has that support in considering which advice/recommendations to accept.
Wishing strength to both ankle and England!!! ;-)

But thanks for introducing me to Sopcast/p2p because I think it's going to let me watch even more soccer than I do...which will probably require adding a few hours to the standard 24 in a day! Fox Soccer Channel only goes so far, and I've been missing the UEFAs. Cross fingers I can make it work to watch those! :D
3:40 PM
You're welcome Dina. I have the same problem with the amount of soccer I watch too. As I try to catch all the Manchester United, Sunderland, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy and England games LOL - and I also follow rugby - sleep is for wimps :)
