David Beckham "looks great"

Young David Beckham

Update 10/16 - I've added a couple of "blast from the past" photos of David Beckham from Isifa to the gallery. I hope I can find them untagged as they are really nice. Also there are photos of Posh and Becks leaving Koi Monday night and Mastro's Steakhouse Tuesday.

David Beckham trained with the team for the fourth time since his return from injury today. Landon Donovan said, "He looks great. He gets into tackles. He's sprinting. He's cutting, so he looks good to me. Last week, he was still a little more ginger, I think. He's getting closer but it takes time to build the fitness back and get back into the flow of it again."

Whether Becks will play a role on Thursday is still undecided but if he does, it is thought he will come on as a sub. More details here. Fingers-crossed that he's ready as he will be keen to play and will contribute a lot if he does. You can hear Coach Yallop talking about Becks fitness after training online here thanks to Sidelineviews.

Good Luck to England in their match later today UK time. A win would see England qualify for Euro 2008 so Go England!! You can follow the match via the BBC site. Update 10/17 - unfortunately England were defeated 2-1 by Russia which means their qualification for Euro 2008 is no longer in their hands and will depend on the outcome of other countries matches. Provided Russia don't win their remaining two matches and/or Croatia loses to Macedonia, qualification is still possible though! Match report here.

Phone Becks

David Beckham

There are some new photos of David Beckham making a phone call while he was out and about yesterday in the gallery

The exhibition match between the LA Galaxy and the Minnesota Thunder that was postponed when Becks was injured, will be rescheduled for November 11 if the LA Galaxy don't make the play-offs or for Spring 2008 if they do. So let's all hope for a spring game, details here.

Steve Davis has written a great overview of where things stand in the battle for the remaining play-off spots, read it here. The two 'do or die' games remaining for the LA Galaxy are -

LA Galaxy v NY Redbulls (at home) Thursday Oct 18, 8PM PT - 11PM ET - 2PM Australian EST - 4AM London time, it will be televised on ESPN2

Chicago v LA Galaxy (away to Chicago) Sunday Oct 21, 12PM PT - 3PM ET - 6am Australian EST - 8PM London Time, it will be televised on Telefutura.

Anna I've seen a few stories saying that even if David is fit he may not get to play? What do you think of that... my impression from others was that the team had been lucky and just scraping wins against teams thanks in part to red cards and penalties are they really playing so well they don't need him? I don't mind if they don't rush him... after all it's an improvement on them playing him when he wasn't fit like they did all those times before... but considering they have to win these two games is it wise to not even use him as a sub? Confused Julie :-)

Hi Julie, just the media trying to make something out of nothing as usual :) Whether Becks will play is a game-time decision and the only hesitancy on using him is that he hasn't played in a while and so may lack some match fitness but the suggestion has been that if he is ok he may come on as a sub which is a wise approach as you say - best not to overdo it. The game is crucial but as NY are already in the play-offs and this game has no meaning for them, it is hoped that they will perhaps even rest some players so the match against Chicago on Sunday is considered the more important because Chicago is trying to make the play-offs too and they will be giving it everything they've got. I think we will see Becks play Thursday night I think he'll come off the bench in the second half, how early in the second half will depend on the scoreline - well that's my bet lol but of course I might be way off :)

First, positive thoughts. GO ENGLAND (only 43 minutes to kick-off)!!!!!! Second, GO GALS (can't count that many minutes)!!!!!

Then just one bit of grumpiness before I set it aside to cheer our sides on as I should. It's great to hear about recovery and very happy that Becks is not being forced back at risk. I should just appreciate that news, but it still grates to hear the way Lalas and Yallop talk about it.

I know we've said it before: suddenly there's a medical staff and rules regarding rehab; suddenly Becks needs to get his fitness back because he hasn't played, or practiced much with the team, for so long; suddenly they only sub in players coming off of injury (I guess BEING injured doesn't count); now his current accuracy is even mentioned (Yallop). When they put him in on one foot, he hadn't trained at all in five weeks, hardly any of the team had practiced together, and we know what the rehab and sub policies were (and, btw, Becks still managed to drop his crosses on some bewildered toes with his usual accuracy). We've seen where that negligence got us, and I'm glad to see its not being repeated, but the double speak makes me a bit queasy.

(Don't mind Donovan's comments because they're not hypocritical, he knows what's necessary for match fitness and he's being protective of Becks as he would any teammate coming back from an injury.)

Now that's off my chest, I can go cheer like a maniac! Does the Galaxy have any songs btw? ;-).

I agree Diane believe me lol I had all the same thoughts :) I don't know if your familiar with Winnie the Pooh at all but honestly - I'm quite serious here, Lalas is Tigger and Yallop is Eeyore. For real :) Well it makes me smile :)

Anne everything you say is right. It is normal that a player after a serious accident, return to play in small doses. Do not worry must only wait and hope. Ciao to tomorrow (for the entire month of October can use the computer only once a day). Hugs from Loredana,Samuele,Gabriel

I love Winnie the Pooh! But Tigger was so pure of heart...!!!! I'm going to have to dig up a more dastardly analogy -- John Barrymore in "It's a Wonderful Life"? Too old maybe. I'll see what I can do at half time.

I thought England were doing so well and dominating and then everything turned 180 in the space of a couple of minutes.

They really needed a draw. Now all we can do is pray that other results go England's way so that they can still qualify. Fingers crossed.

sob! Damn I just knew the points we lost in matches where McClaren refused to select a fit Becks would come back to haunt us. I really hope we still make it because I really wanted to see Becks play at Euro 2008 and it would just be sickening if the team and fans all miss out because McClaren is a stubborn stupid fool of man :-(((((

Too bad for England. They didn´t deserve to lose really. But football is like this.

And in football miracles can happen. We, as Becks fans, know it.

I still believe it. England won´t give up. Even with McClaren over there.

Anna, I´ll try to find those two old pictures without tags for you. I can promise, though.

It was just reported that beckham might have reaggravated his left ankle injury in practice today (Wednesday). I just hope it's nothing major.

Thanks Siniestro that would be great :)

I just read about him possible re-aggravating his ankle too like you I hope it's nothing major as well poor Becks he will be so sick of that ankle.

Oh btw I meant to say earlier - nice to see you Catherine and you're welcome :)

Diane, you're probably right perhaps Tigger is too kind an analogy lol :)
