David Beckham on TVNZ
Update - You should be able to listen to the LA Galaxy v Wellington Phoenix match live via this radio station just click here at game time :)
Above is a nice interview that David Beckham filmed earlier today. The balloon they give to Becks at the end read "From Willie and Ollie, we love you David, thanks for coming." After the camera was turned off Becks thanked all six crew who filmed the interview personally, shaking hands and signing autographs.
20,000 watch Becks train!
I've just gotten back from the LA Galaxy practice (rock concert!) which was held this morning at Westpac Stadium in Wellington! It was great fun! There were thousands of children gathered and they chanted "David Beckham", performed mexican waves and sang along to the pop music pumping out of the stadium sound system. Becks spoke to the crowd and said "Thank you to all the children and all the schools, because this is incredible." More details are here and there are photos in the gallery, along with photos of Becks being presented with a greenstone necklace during half-time of tonight's A League match.Last night in Wellington Becks and a few of the team dined out at Monsoon Poon, more details here. You will also find lots of related Becks videos on the TVNZ site!
Today, after practice, Becks was the guest of Lord of the Rings Director, Peter Jackson, at his Wellington studio which is in a beautiful location so hopefully they had a nice relaxing afternoon.
In other news, the LA Galaxy will play in a Pan-Pacific tournament in Hawaii scheduled for February, more details here. Thanks to Lulu for the heads up!
Match details - The LA Galaxy v Wellington Phoenix match will kick off at 7.15pm local time Dec 1. This translates to Friday Nov 30 at 10.15 US Pacific Time. The match will be televised live on TV in New Zealand and the TV station will make the match available online to all countries immediately after the match on the tvnz site.

Such a cute interview!! Glad he got to sneak out to a beach in Australia! Thanks for all the info Anna. Frank is 100% right you do a wonderful job :-)

I wondered about that too, galaxy23. When Becks joined Real Madrid, his first experience with the team was a pre-season tour in Asia. The focus on Becks was similar, the difference being that many of the other players were so famous that they enjoyed the chance to duck under the radar for a change (and get in a bit of trouble while they were about it!).
The rest of the Galaxy might be exhausted from all of the attention as easily as they might be feeling like 3rd wheels.
I also wonder what kind of appearance fees the rest of the players are getting for these games. In any case, I hope they're having a bit of fun.

No sooner did I hope that the players were having a bit of fun than I listened to Becks' interview and heard about the sneak-off to the beach in Sydney. Brilliant and, as he said, I can only imagine how well needed.
BTW, is anyone else liking the Australian and New Zealand press so much more than the U.S. and U.K.? I even liked the Canadian media more (once the Toronto hub-bub blew over)!

Good grief, this one actually brought a tear to my eye. Maybe the beauty of the down under media is that they pay attention...

you are right diane, I notice it too, australia and new zealand reporters gets it right, and the international media feeds off them so Beckham good news all around :) even in the 'snub' of the children and Beckham's making it up to them is reported in full; other reporters would have just focused on the 'snub' and leave it at that. And they put Beckham's character and fame into perspective, I wonder why the other media outlets don't do the same? :)

Thanks for the radio link Anna, sounded like an entertaining match.

We're doing the same reading, Marie, and loving it.
In the UK and US, the worst sells and the media focuses on anything negative (and/or makes it up if they can't find it), plus there are always the pundits that think any form of criticism makes them look smarter.
I guess, as we should know from Anna, Syd and a few other folks down under, people in that part of the world just like the truth -- and would sooner enjoy someone than look for something to dislike about them.
I may be packing my bags -- especially if mayors there are as sweet as this one looks in the photo!
