David Beckham on Parky!

(Source) ITV have confirmed that David Beckham will indeed appear on Parkinson on December 15th. The show will be the last show that Michael Parkinson will do with guests and it will feature some of Britain's biggest names including Dame Judi Dench, Rod stewart, Annie Lennox, Billy Connolly and of course the one and only David Beckham!
England v Croatia update
(Source) Steve McClaren has indicated that he hasn't made a decision as to what role David Beckham will play against Croatia. He said, "David needed that game [against Austria], he needed a run-out. It was good to have a look at him. What we've got to do now is look through that game again, especially the first half and assess the performance of the team."McClaren also said that injured and suspended players including Michael Owen, John Terry, Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville will attend Wednesday's crucial match to cheer on their team-mates.
A very happy fan
You may recall that after the recent game between the LA galaxy and the Minnesota Thunder, Becks gave his jersey to a little girl in the crowd. Thanks to Diane here is a cute video about this.Sunday, November 18, 2007
David Beckham: I won't retire
There are photos of David Beckham leaving Nobu restaurant in London last night in the gallery.Becks spoke to The Sunday Mirror, prior to the outcome of the Israel v Russsia game last night and re-affirmed his committment to being available for his country as long as he is able to serve, he told them, "I want to play in the next World Cup. That is a big goal for me and an enormous challenge, I believe I can do it. I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it."
"Contrary to some people's claims, I didn't leave European football too early, I am still playing well and at a good standard. That's why I'm optimistic I can play in the 2010 World Cup."
"I won't retire. I will always make myself available for my country. That hasn't changed. I would rather be stuck on 99 caps and England qualify, than win 100 caps and we don't make it."
The Independent has a good overview of MLS commissioner Don Garber's recent "state of MLS" address. Garber described Becks as "an absolute gentleman" and added, "Everything we asked David to do, he did." Of course some of us have our reservations about the wisdom and judgement inherent in some of things that David Beckham was asked to do, but that is another issue for another day.

I wonder who he was at Nobu with?

How can Garber say it was a succes in every way when David was injured and his injury was handled so badly. I certainly hope it will be much more successful next year in football terms...which Garber seems to have overlooked completely. Thanks for the pictures :-)
I'm so excited for Wednesday now! Wouldn't it be just perfect if David scores or sets up the winner!

In addition to our reservations about the wisdom of putting a player at frivolous (ie: not in a World Cup final for example) and repeated risk of career ending injury -- I wouldn't mind if at least one of that lot in particular took a few lessons in being a gentleman from their new signing.
And, gosh, don't we love Becks' drive and optimism as always! Tremendous.

Anna, in case you missed this one, Ray Wilkins continues to be the voice of reason:

Good on him for not retiring and always wanting to play for his country! Makes a nice change from those who are too tired or get the huff!
2:05 PM
haha, yes i'd say we've all had some issues with what they asked him to do.
everything crossed, it won't come down to 99 caps or england qualifying. i look forward to both happening.

Redfred you are bang on! He hasn't been treated at all well by England but that hasn't effected his patriotism. I wouldn't be at all suprised Julie if he does do the business. I don't like McClaren, make no bones about it.. but he were right when he said the lad is a big game player. There aren't many who have delivered so often under pressure

I'm glad the commissioner, took some responsibility on what they made Beckham do...And now, all our positive energy and prayers to the England team against Croatia :)

I think David will start he is the best option with it being a do or die game. He is not 100% fit but he can change the game in the blink of an eye and England does not have anyone better no matter what the stupid sports hacks say.
Love his blue cardy!! :-)
12:41 AM
is there going to be another training thing open to the public Anna? It would be cool to go
2:50 AM
They'll need a strong midfield, to leave him out would be silly given their injury and suspension list. Even at 90% match fit he's an asset. However, McClaren should keep in mind the way things ended up it would have been 0-0 if not for David's corner. It's apparently easy to forget the value of his service (some of his crosses were brilliant vs. Austria) and the fact that he can actually make magic happen on set pieces. Does it happen all the time? No, of course not. But when it happens it's important, like ending the match 1-0. But I've got a beef with McClaren for continually overlooking Rob Green as a GK, given he's so strong and consistent, and for *many* of his Becks-related decisions... So I'll stop now. ;)
7:54 AM

Mei - thanks for the kind words I'm glad you like it :)
Thanks Diane for the skylink :)

Thanks for adding the clip, Anna, I watched it again from here and the little girl just gets cuter, and Becks' thoughtfulness sweeter. Sending over another shirt for the little brother is pure David Beckham (certainly proves his ability to tune out 20,000 people and see whatever he's focusing on if nothing else has all these years :D !).
5:52 AM
Hi! i think david played well on wednesday when he finally came on. i think he should have not from the begining. david is a world class player for england and shouls play well past the 100 caps. david was the only player to play with his heart on the sleeve/
