LA Galaxy v Vancouver Whitecaps

UPDATE - You can watch a video of the game and crowd online here. Requires Windows Media Player or Real Player.
The LA Galaxy have now confirmed that Ruud Gullit is the Galaxy's new coach. The Galaxy have scheduled a news conference at the Home Depot Center stadium on Friday to introduced the 45-year-old Dutchman. All the details from FIFA.com
David Beckham received a rapturous reception from the crowd at BC Place tonight. The game ended in a nil all draw and you can read more about the game online here and here. First of the photos are in the gallery.
(Source) David Beckham spoke to the media after the game and said, "I was meant to play only half the game, but I felt stronger and stronger as the first half went on and wanted to play a little longer then, it was time for me to come off and give other players a chance to have a run around."
"Shame there weren't any goals. Hope (the fans) enjoyed it with the streaker and other things. It's unfortunate when there are draws like this. People want to see goals. But I think both teams canceled each other out tonight."
He was asked about his recall to the England team and said, "We'll have to wait and see. All I have to do is keep myself fit and put myself in the position to be selected for the national team and keep my fingers crossed that I will."
Becks also responded to comments made by Pele in an interview, claiming that American soccer fans were given the impression David Beckham would be a goal scorer, saying. "The Galaxy wouldn't have come out and said that, the Galaxy brought me in because I'm a football player. Everybody in the world knows I'm not a goal scorer. Everyone has their own opinion. Pele is a great player and a great ambassador for the game."
You can watch a video of David Beckham training at the stadium online here. You will need Windows Media Player or Real Player. There is also a nice article talking about how down to earth Becks is and comparing him to Wayne Gretzky, high praise from the Canadian Media eh!

I cannot comment on the previous article... anyway, thank you anna for all Becks thing lol! I love that Vancouver interview... David will always be a class act no matter what. That's why we love him, right?
Again, thank you!

man. we. suck.
9:33 PM
Hope the Becks-Icepack thing was a precaution and not for a new injury
Thanks for all updates, links, pics
as for Gullit = Great player, average manager
my biggest problem - what does he know about the MLS, how it works (salary caps, trades, drafts, talents).
Obviously if he would have help from Cobi Jones and Technical Director Bravo it could work.
I hope they will play on grass instead of plastic pitches down under.
The Whitecaps game was quite disappointing by all standards IMO

Ciao to everybody.Gullit?Absolutely fantasticoooooooo! Today I hope to go again online, and because I Gabriele be in the hospital for the final outcome of its tests (pray that everything is Okay). Hug from Loredana, Samuel, Gabriel,
10:22 PM
Good luck Loredana I will pray for Gabriel to get good news!
I don't know that much about Gullit as a coach. He was an amazing player... with amazingly bad hair... but I don't know hoe good a coach he would be...
The icepack seemed to be on the left ankle Ben so I don't know that it's anyhting new but I am worried to think that ankle may still not be 100%
12:05 AM
LOL Nov is a bit on the cold side for streaking! Thanks for the pics Anna

You're welcome. The comment function has been a bit flakey with blogger having some problems but it should be ok again now :)
Loredana, God Bless! I'll pray for the right results and for this worrying time to be over for your family. Hugs to Gabriel.
Hi Julie and Ben - the re-appearance of the ice pack is a concern. I hope it's just a precaution but it does seem that the ankle is still bothering him.

I didn't catch the game, but can anyone say if they think moving Becks into the center is the most effective use of his talent, or whether you think he contributes more from the right? He was great in center during part of his Madrid career and not at others. Any thoughts in terms of the Galaxy set-up?
Hmm, Gullit, I remember why he was dropped from Newcastle, but never understood what happened at Chelsea. Lots of questions from me today! (Trying to ignore the icepack ;-) I guess).
Loredana, my thoughts are with you and Gabriel today. I hope very much for good results. Best luck, Diane

Hi Ben the pitch here in Sydney will be grass and I think Wellington is same isn't it Anna?
I'm on the fence...unusual for me I know...on Gullit. He did alright with Chelski but apart from that he doesn't really have a lot on his resume to instill confidence. Tremendous player no doubt but he won't be playing. I would prefer Klinsman meself but will hope for best if it's Gullit
5:02 AM
Becks is hot with his jersey off! He should have streaked!! haha =)
5:40 AM
Oops. Ben, I hadn't realized they were playing on plastic turf last night -- that makes the ice pack a little easier to understand. Have to go check what they play on in Minnesota (and, btw, if its grass then no grounds anywhere has the excuse to use turf!!).
6:26 AM
Ciao!. Finally have good news for Gabriel, the magnetic resonance is okay.Gabriele will take three years and when a medicine becomes adolescent, the convulsion, disappear from him. . Anne and Julie thanks for the prayer.Sorry I confused Gullit for Rijcaard. Not know him as coach but was a great player. The coach Mourinho would top.Loredana, Samuel, Gabriel
10:48 AM
Anna, Gullit's wife supposedly confirmed the move on Dutch tv.
11:24 AM
does anyone know when the galaxy are supposed to arrive in minnesota. and if they will be out and about anywhere??
I live in MN and want to know of any plans the team my have ahead of sunday's game
thanks for any info!!
12:24 PM
Oh, well...I wanted him to play for England, but I don´t think it will happen because he does not seem completely fit. :-(
LMAO at your commets about Gullit, Julie.
I also don´t know him as much as a coach. I remember when he coached or maybe he still coaches Feyenoord, not sure. Feyenoord did/is doing well with him.
But he was a very famous player and played at big clubs, so he knows how to handle with pressure and all the press. Plus, he´s dutch. Total Football...LOL.
I don´t know, I still think Klinnsman would be the ideal coach.
Thanks for all the videos, Anna.
Nice press conference.
1:37 PM
Hey Anna,
thanks a lot for your work which you do for the side!
@Loredana: Hope the results are ok! I will pray for Gabriel!
It seems David is a little bit bored at training or is it just my impression?
Regards,
Nadja

Loredana, I'm so please the results are ok for Gabriel and that the convulsions can be managed with medicene until he gets older when they will disappear. Your family has been very brave through this tough time. Take care.
Syd, Wellington has a grass surface too. Diane if you do find out what kind of surface Minnesota has can you tell me? Like you I'm curious and I hope that it's grass!
Scilla, thanks for that, the club have confirmed it too now so it's official. We are getting Mr Gullit. I wonder if he will make the team wear short shorts? :) Agree Siniestro he should have no problem with the media side of the job.
Still got my fingers crossed for Becks tomorrow I think the England squad will be named in about 12 hours.
I'm not sure when the team gets to Minnesota. However, they will train ahead of the game so I would look out for a training session the day before at the stadium they are playing at. It might be a good chance for an autograph :)
3:59 PM
i luv how david's hair is growing back
it'll look good again!!!!
=]
7:35 PM
FieldTurf in Minnesota :( . Hope we don't see another ice pack.
Loradena, it's great to see your good news! Best luck.
8:35 PM
Diane on the center versus right midfield position for the lad. I prefer him on the right, sending in crosses but he can contribute from the center as a playmaker and equally cross from there. The limitation on contribution at the Galaxy is not a question of right versus mid as there are pros and cons for both, the limitation is that someone has to get on the end of the cross, or time the run to meet the defence splitting pass and the Galaxy do not have the players who can best utilise the lads talents. Gullit is a brave man and good luck to him I hope he can fashion a team out of the players he has and making a few smart trades. Time will tell.
1:44 AM
uh-oh more fieldturf :( It's a shame soccer has to be played on that surface in so many places.
