Almost deja vu

David Beckham is to have Fabio Capello for his Manager again. Although this time it won't be for club but for country. Fabio Capello will be appointed to the position of England Manager, as has been widely reported upon, later on Thursday, according to The BBC. More details online here. So what do you think of Capello being appointed?
Update - The FA has approved Capello's appointment but he will not sign his contract until terms for his backroom staff have been worked out. He is expected to have a place in his plans for David Beckham, full story here.
England's first match with Capello as Manager will be the friendly against Switzerland at Wembley on February 6th. Hopefully this match will also mark David Beckham's 100th cap and in that event, as a special honor to celebrate this achievement, he would captain the England team for the game.
(Source) Fabio Capello's replacement at Real Madrid, Bernd Schuster told a press conference at the club yesterday, that Roberto Carlos and David Beckham had been hard to replace, saying, "When I arrived, we lost Robert Carlos, the best wing-back in the world, and David Beckham, one of the best players on the right of midfield. They were holes difficult to fill in the summer, but during the season we have solved most of our problems."
Pink is the New Blog have posted what they say is a second ad from the Emporio Armani campaign. It is pretty fuzzy but I thought some of you would still want to see it! It's in the gallery. There is also a photo of Becks boarding Spice One, the Virgin Atlantic plane named in the Spice Girls honor. The plane was inaugurated today at LAX.
A big thank you to Joy who sent me two scans of Becks hanging backstage with the Spice Girls from Hello Magazine. There is a really super sweet picture of him with Victoria. Awwwww! I've also added a couple of Motorola ads to the gallery. We saw these during Becks recent visit to China but these are slightly different versions.

I think Capello will be an improvement on McClown. Of course me granny would be an improvement over that muppet.
I think he has a lot of respect for the lad. Of course he had to earn it the hard way and Capello certainly approached him with some prejudices in tow. Still for a man like Capello to admit publicly that he made a big mistake with the way he dealt with Beckham is I think a good sign that he came to respect his talent and hard work.
So I think Capello could be effective and I think he'll be fair to the lad this time.

I don't know how someone who can't speak english can do the job. It's hard enough dealing with the media and they constantly misquote when the Manager speaks in english... this is going to be INTERESTING

I'm not a Capello fan but I'll keep an open mind and see what he does and how things go!
LMAO at the banner :-)

Capello for England = Good Thing.
He will sort out the primadonnas and overhyped underperforming stars(Terry, Lampard, Gerrard etc)
He will make them train hard and work up a team ethos (see RM as a recent example)
Capello for Becks = ?
Becks always stated his respect for Capello even when he was dropped and when he left Madrid (Sinners: Mijatovic and Calderon)
Becks was in a superb form for Madrid in 2007 (IMO his best form and displays in Spain alltogether) so I'm positive Becks won't be excluded from the England squad again. How his role will be (starter/sub/coach) is unknown and hard to tell yet.
But I'm very positive he'll get his 100th cap for England against Switzerland in Feb 2008.

I think Capello is a tough s.o.b and can handle the media.
I dont think Terry is a primadonna or is over-hyped...

me likes the look of that second Armani Ad. Yum.
As for Capello. I don't know. I almost feel it's an impossible job the expectations are always OTT
We english don't like to admit that other countries have good teams.
I still think we had a truly great manager in SGE. I don't care if he bonked his way around The FA hes not the pope.
I don't see what his morals had to do with anything, I still think he was doing very well with what he had to work with but no one would admit it. Even now after McClaren showed that qualification by England can't be taken for granted,,, still no one wants to admit that SGE did well and that quarter finals was a good not a bad result.
So good luck to him I wouldn't wish that job on me worse enemy

i'm also positive about Capello's would be management position in the England team, Beckham only mentioned (according to reports) that he only lost respect for Calderon, and he always respects Capello, he knows that what the manager says goes, but in real madrid it was the president who really axed him..., I'm still a little miffed on his treatment of Beckham but on the other hand I am confident in Capello's ability since every club he manage won something :)

I would rather have seen Lippi or Mourinho get it. I still wish the stupid FA had gotten Scolari instead of McClaren and this might not be happening now.

I´m not a fan of Capello, actually I HATE him with all my soul.
I hate his football style, that stupid defensive thing, his teams only score on counter-attack.
It does not matter if they are playing away or home. I hate his attitute, and I will never forget the fact he agreed with the Madrid management to let Becks out of the team. It does not matter how it ended (with Becks back to the team and winning the spanish league), because that was such an humiliation for Becks and he (Capello) contributed with it.
But I need to agree with Ben, he´s a tough (and VERY lucky) coach. Let´s see if will solve the fight spirit of some England players. Let´s see if he will make all of them think as a team and work hard. Let´s see if he will solve the Lampard-Gerrard problem. Hopefully he will do it.
But it´s a tough job, because national team is different from club football.
I just hope he counts on Becks.

Ciao! Capello is a man accustomed to winning. Him The team that has managed to win always.Him is much that is unpleasant but not prevent him to do well for England. English language will not be a problem, but little talk him work hard and good. The English should learn a lot from Italian managers who are best at the world (believe are not presumptuous but I tell the truth, in Italy a center where we teach how to manage a team, in fact we have managed teams from Italian to the contrary of England) We hope with all my heart that David enter the plan of Capello, but we believe that will give him the joy of making 100 match.Good work Capello and we hope that the English press to leave him quiet work even if I have doubts. I don't like Capello but hes not really a guy you can get warm and fuzzy about is he? He will bring discipline for sure.
I think of all the managers that could have come in he is the one I think would be most pro David. After all he doesn't change his mind easily and once players are out with him they usually stay out. David managed to change his mind and to even have him admit he got it wrong, I think Capello has a very good opinion of him

i'm really happy fabio got the job. looking forward to his time there.
anna, hilarious placement of the snowman.

Hi Siniestro, I've only seen the two armani Ads I've added to the gallery. The one I first posted that was sent to me and the second one that came from one of the celeb blogs who scanned it from one of the US newspapers. I haven't seen anything new in The Sun sorry.
Ben, Becks was in great form earlier in the year for RM and Capello recognised his importance. I have to debate with you though :) whether that was his best form in Spain he was unbelievable for his first season in Madrid - that was some incredible football he was playing. We can agree it's a tie and that he was in equally great form if you like :))
7:15 PM
I think Capello will do a good job. He is italian and in Serie A many players play at the top level into their late 30's... this plus the fact Capello ended up liking Beckham should be good for Beckham chances of going well beyond 100 caps... injury allowing
11:16 PM
Thanks for the new pictures! galaxy23 I agree with you that I think Capello values experience as he bought Cannavaro and Emerson to RM and they were both well into their thirties. I hope that he will treat David well and will look on the brightside until I'm given a concrete reason not too :-)
1:37 AM
I've read all articles I can read and IMO, Capello will be good for England.
Now, let Becks captain his 100th cap and I'm all for Fabio Capello! lol

I agree that there are a few things for which I would not forgive Capello even though I always had a feeling that he was furious with RM management -- to his credit.
But there are also a few things that really impressed me by the end of the season: the players were in fantastic physical shape, their focus was total, and they played like a team. Not only did he reinstate Becks, but he utilized his strengths in these areas to push the rest of the team. Once the defense was tight he did allow a more flowing attack, and he was brilliant at recognizing the best in each player. So by season end, he was allowing much more creativity and using more interesting formations. Most important for England, during the last several matches Capello's game management was impressive and I've rarely seen a better mind for substitutions.
Cranky or not, you can't say he didn't get the best out of the players (those he hadn't permanently exiled at any rate!). You can still see the individual effects when you watch many of them playing now.
Hope springs eternal...so long as the FA can resist meddling!

Capello could be good lets hope so!

Well, the first quotes I heard from Capello are quite interesting. I think he´s only the second coach after Scolari that noticed it at some squads, like Spain, Portugal and England.
Capello said they (the players) are mentally blocked when they play with England, the same happens with Spain. And I agree with that.
Well, at least is something new, something I´ve never heard from Sven or McClaren.
He needs to work the players´ minds aswell. And he seems to have noticed it.
