The Spice Boys!

Update Wayne Rooney has backed David Beckham's continued involvement with England saying, "Becks not only because we like him as a person and a friend, I think he is still good enough to play for England and that is the main thing why he should be picked."

"To get that 100th cap, I am not trying to pick the team but personally I still think he is good enough to play for England."
The full story is online here.

There are some very cute photos of the Beckham boys on stage with their Mom in the gallery. They were introduced to the audience during the song "Mama". Posh spoke with the Sun before the concert and told them she was pleased that Fabio Capello was England Manager saying, "David has a lot of respect for him." More details online here.

You can see a short but very sweet clip of Becks singing along at one of the Spice Girls concert, thanks to Nadja for the heads up, online here.

Thanks to Laurance there are also a couple more 'behind-the-scenes' photos from the Armani shoot in the gallery. There is also a color version of the black and white Ad released last week as well as a clearer version of the Ad that appeared in USA Today. Laurance sent the photos through more than 2 days ago so apologies to her and you for not posting them sooner but I'm away at the moment and the computer I'm using is a little temperamental :)

David Beckham on Parkinson

Here's David Beckham's appearance on Parkinson. The first two clips are of his interview and the third clip has lots of cute reaction shots of Becks during Peter Kay's segment and also the part where Dame Edna gets a little "familiar" :) I've also added a few quick screen caps to the gallery.

Ciao.Today I read the Italian press and wrote yesterday that the interpreter translated mistake with the last sentence of Capello on David. In fact that he said take into consideration, because David is an important player for the
'England (instead the interpreter said, will depend on his behavior, I Yesterday I listened to the press conference live, and I assure you that Capello did not say anything about behavior, but said that he is a great man, I problems with the English but not with the Italian. course Capello has not confirmed whether he will call David in the team, but has not closed the doors. Loredana, Samuel, Gabriel.

That's really interesting Loredana thanks for letting us know that. I personally take his words as very positive after all Capello never struck me as a man given to insincerity so to know the Manager of the England teams knows that Becks is a great player and a great man has to bode well. Fingers crossed ;)

I think these sorts of interviews make David really nervous did you notice the way Peter Kay said you're alright now David it's over, it's over you can relax... I think that was only half joking!

I'm glad he does them even though hes a bit shy because it's always interesting to hear what he has to say :-)

Loredana is right. Capello's comments on Becks have been quoted in today's Sun newspaper:

“Beckham was a great player at Madrid and a great asset.

“We had a contrasting relationship at Real but he showed he is a great man and a great player. When Beckham sets a target he usually reaches it.

“Beckham is important for England and he is among those players I hold in great consideration.”

Great great clips. Had to replay Kay because I was laughing so hard!

Loradena, thank you for the translation. I had a feeling Capello was saying that Becks' way of behaving on the team was important as a role model for the kind of effort he likes, because he had said the same thing in Madrid. Not that it was important as a test, which is what the press latched on to.

Ciao. Have been a very funny (of course I did not understand the dialogues because my English is equal to English of Capello), does not pretend to know all the dialogues but I saw laugh much when there was Victoria and I understand only one sentence: Goldenballs, please explain what will said David? Loredana, Samuele, Gabriel

Loredana here's the part of the show you asked about -

Parkinson:(asking after Victoria) How is the glorious lady still as indiscreet about you as ever? Do you remember the time she revealed your nickname?
Then they cut to the clip of an old interview where Posh called Becks "golden balls" on the air and then after the clip
Parkinson: It's a great great nickname that Golden balls - wouldn't mind that one would we?
Becks: it's one of the better ones I've been called, I've been called, I must admit, a lot worse - but aaah my wife has that sort of thing where when we're on live TV or on a TV show she likes to say certain things ummm like me wearing her knickers
Parkinson - yes that's right she said that
Becks: She sid that when I actually don't
Parkinson nodding: no
Becks: most of the time
Parkinson: Most of the time you don't
Michael Caine: They don't fit do they?
Becks: Nods in agreement
Becks: but yeah she's great
Parkinson: Yes there's also been a catalogue of other things. She revealed to the world you have this neatness syndrome
Becks; yeah
Parkinson: now whats that all about... this obssession with neatness?
Becks I'm just obssessed like you say with neatness. I just have to have everything in the right place hmm I don't know. She finds it very annoying. Ummm
Parkinson: Well give me an example of what that means
Becks: Ummm well for instance when I hoover...
Parkinson: Well I like the image of David Beckham hoovering - don't you!
Becks: When I hoover - in our house in Spain we used to have this big rug that when you hoover you could hoover it in lines
Like Wembley! So she used to catch me after the kids had gone to bed, hoovering, and it would all be perfect lines, so that's one of the things and also cans of drinks in the fridge, I have to have like 4-4 and 4 I can't have 4-5 and 4 and things like that and it's obviously things like that, that shes remarked on.
Parkinson: And she also said that when you hoover in a straight line you're often wearing a pinny
Becks: Apparently so
Parkinson: Well that's either a yes or no
Becks: It's a definite no.
Parkinson: Good

The photo of Brooklyn smiling at Romeo while he's sharing the mic with Geri is priceless!!! And, just so no one thinks I'm too ancient to notice these things--so much for the rumors of chest muscle photoshop assistance, as anyone can see from the candid of Becks walking down the stairs. As usual: no artifice.

Nice from Rooney. Thanks for keeping us up, I'm still laughing at Kay.

The kids are so adorable and I read that a fan at the concert said David had a big smile on his face through out! Perhaps Romeo really is going to be the next JT he does look like he loves it on the stage =)

Cute pictures and videos, I enjoyed very much. thanks Anna! Great job!

I have just read a report that David Bentely was saying he is better looking than Becks and his goal is to stop Becks on the team, and to replace him. I was so annoyed by what he said. Who he thinks he is? No one can compare to Becks. David Beckham is the one and only forever. I hope Becks to start training after this holiday season with a England team and to keep up his form to show the world again how good he still is on the field.

Don't worry Mei David Bentley has said David Beckham is one of his heroes and when he was left out of the England team David Bentley called for him to be re-instated. Bentley said he has a bit of banter where he tells Becks that he is the new Becks and is better looking than him - it's a bit of joking around. Bentley and Becks do compete for the same position so Bentley must try to win the spot and Becks likewise will be determined to make Bentley wait - it's a natural rivalry, there is no ill will betweeen these two players.

Bentley has huge respect for Becks and said "Don’t get me wrong, I will be delighted for Becks if he gets the 100 because he’s a top bloke and a great player. If he does reach the 100, I hope he gets it by coming on for me after I’ve had a stormer!" Bentley wasn't insulting Becks in anyway. Of course no one can compare to Becks but it is Bentley's job to try and fight for a place in the team.

If there's no real news about Becks all sorts of things start coming out and being reported on and/or exaggerated. Example - Becks is stopped for 15 seconds in a standard operation where the police are stopping all vehicles of a particular make as part of an investigation. Becks is not mistaken for a thief, he is stopped for 15 seconds and there are no photos. They call that news? I mean seriously? What rubbish. Next the Sun will be leading with "Today in London, David Beckham sneezed!" I mean it makes me laugh! lol

I understand Mei - and a lot of the media have run headlines that make it sound like Bentley is talking smack or dissing Becks and I would probably have been more annoyed if I did not know some of the history between the players and things Bentley has said in the past. The media always have to make things sound worse than they really are as they think it makes the story more interesting.

Personally I think Bentley probably should walk the talk rather than talk the talk - anyone can do that. Of course he must compete for a spot but do it, don't talk about it. When Becks won his spot it meant someone else was replaced but Becks was never one to talk about what he was going to do, he would just do it and that said everything that needed saying. Bentley should learn from his hero - as you can end up embarrassing yourself when you speak too soon. Still for all that, I don't think Bentley means to be malicious.

I wish you a merry christmas and a great 2008 too :)

Anna, I agree about Bentley, a bit too much talk, but when the debate about bringing Becks back was raging last winter, Bentley said he would want him back even if it meant he had no chance for a place on the England squad while Becks was there.

Hi Diane,

Yes as I said above Bentley did call for Becks to be re-instated and has always spoken highly of him. I like Bents, I think he needs to talk a little less in a situation like this for his own sake. After all hes just stating the obvious theres always been competition for places and it doesn't really need to be discussed. The only person his words might haunt are himself :)

Silence is golden or failing that a simple - I plan on bringing my best game and fighting for a place in Capello's plans - would suffice :)

After all headlines like "I'll end Beckham's England Career" etc would not be what he would have wanted considering Becks is one of his heroes. So it might have been best not to mention Becks. Everyone knows which players are competing for which starting places - he doesn't need to draw us a map - in braile :)
