Capello's first press conference
Just moments ago Fabio Capello completed his first press conference as England manager. Capello was asked about David Beckham's hopes of winning his 100th cap against Switzerland and continuing his England career until the 2010 World Cup.Capello said: "I had a contrasting relationship with David Beckham at Real but in the end he demonstrated what a great man and great player he is. Also, he is the kind of person I believe, when he sets himself something he will achieve it so you never know but obviously I will have to make choices."
"I believe David's behaviour is important."
"Obviously there is still over a month until my first game and plenty of time for important decisions to be made."

I like it that Capello is not making commitments about Becks' future. Anything else would be out of character and smack of pre-arranged deal with FA.
Though I wouldn't be opposed to a symbolic appearance for the 100th cap if David were unable to play after the 99th, this isn't the case now. It would be both patronizing and premature to imply that Becks can't win his caps based on form.
So I think its a show of respect for Capello to make his choices when the time comes -- just as he would with any other "great man and great player." With all hopes for good health, I don't know Becks would have it any other way.

Those are strong words of praise from Capello and that I think is really great news it shows his mind is open to David and that he holds him in high esteem and so he will be fair and that's all I ask :-)
Thanks for the clip Anna I watched it on TV and it is much easier to watch the clip than the whole show. The only good part is the David part the rest was pretty boring

I am not sure about Capello's comment on Becks. I am glad to hear some nice words about becks from him, but I am axious to know weather Becks is going to be picked for the England team. we have to wait and see.

LOL..thanx a bunch for the clip! It's hilarious to see Becks lying with a straight face; "..and egg whites.." And so nice of him to offer to exchange his chicken salad with Snoop's.
Yup, I hope now with Capello at the helm, things will start getting better and hopefully Becks will maintain his form and earn his well-deserved 100th cap =)

well you never can tell with Capello hes a law unto himself but one thing you have to give gim his dues for is that he won't toady to the press or the FA hes pretty much his own man.
As you said Diane it's too soon for him to say much without it sounding pre-arranged so we'll just have to wait and see but I have a good feeling about it
