The new Emporio Armani advertising campaign featuring David Beckham, which was shot on location in Los Angeles by fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, will debut with a special gatefold in the February edition of Vanity Fair USA. The campaign will then be rolled out around the world in sport, fashion and lifestyle magazines and on signature billboards in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, London, Milan, Rome, Paris and Tokyo. The ads will also be featured on the Emporio Armani website from 1st January 2008.
Giorgio Armani said, "David is truly a modern day icon in that his fame extends well beyond the realm of soccer. He is considered as one of the world’s most talented soccer players and a former captain of his national team, but his image has come to stand for more than this. He represents a notion of modern masculinity: as a sports hero, husband and father. He is also a man with a great sense of style. There was a time when soccer players were not always considered to be fashion role models. David Beckham has helped to change that."
David Beckham said, "I first met Mr. Armani quite a few years ago while I was working with the England team when he designed our World Cup suit. I've been a big fan of his style for a long time and, through the years, my wife and I have become friends with him, so I’m happy to be working with him now.
For me Giorgio Armani is a man who has been at the top of his game for more than thirty years."

As for criticism yeah he'll get criticized he always gets criticized. Ciao to everybody1. I had problems with the computer, but fortunately have resolved, and the image of David is a joy to the eyes. Mother Nature has been very generous with guy.The criticism now not interest him more, also in Italy other players (some champions of the world have posed for photos underwear, but no one can compete with the charm of Becks). Armani is one of the greatest designers in the fashion world, and I am proud as Italian, the picture is sex but not vulgar. My husband said this also remains in plants, earns money.Perhaps is a little jealous?, No. .... Him is very jealous. Ps In Italy they say that Capello is the new coach dell'England. Nicely said :) Here in NZ one of the All Blacks is sponsored by Jockey Underwear and he has had no criticism and is hugely popular and works with children. He doesn't look quite as nice as Becks lol but mother nature has been kind to him also :) The UK tabloids are so predictable in their comments, yawn.
Loredana, Capello seems to be the favorite but it hasn't been confirmed yet. I would be ok with him for the job. I admit I had others I liked more but Capello did take Real Madrid to the title and he came in to a club that wasn't winning for 3 years. I think he came to genuinely respect Becks and he was sincere in his apology for getting it wrong so I don't think he would make the mistake of under-valuing Becks a second time.
Anyway. I'll post when I see it confirmed.
Sorry I don't know any more info about his hair than what I wrote in the post.

Just came back from a few days away, and had to laugh when I thought (to my old auntie self) that I may finally have just a bit TMI about David Beckham! But no problem with ad, I remember the Italian men's ad among many others, Becks isn't the first and as Julie said he has a beautiful athlete's body, why not show it if he feels like?

Just one comment on the loverly picture. There might be some photo shopping going on but I don't think it has to do with his body. Maybe lighting and texture wise. He is in a sorta crunch or sit-up position. Which naturally will highlight the definition in his abs and chest. So I think that is why some peeps think his abs and chest are photo shoped. That is all. Chow

Mr Beckham´s authentic. The photo is shot from an angle that flatters Mr Bacekhams body. Pictures and paintings in the ciaro-oscurro technique enhances muscular and otherwise protruding bodyparts. It´s been known since the painter Caravaggio of the Renaissance era and onwards.
